The Venetian Restaurant in East Weymouth Is Being Sold

The future of a South Shore institution whose roots go back nearly 100 years is up in the air.

According to a source, The Venetian Restaurant in East Weymouth is in the process of being sold, with a Facebook post from the Broad Street spot saying that "It is with mixed emotions and a heavy heart that we have decided to sell the Venetian....A sale is currently pending. As things move forward, we will provide you with additional information regarding the exact timing for the transition." It is not known whether the new owners will continue to run the place as The Venetian or whether a new restaurant might be coming to the space, so stay tuned for updates.

The Venetian first started out in Yarmouth on Cape Cod in the 1920s, eventually moving to North Weymouth then a couple of spaces in East Weymouth, with one final move taking place in 1940 to its current home, according to the restaurant's website. The dining spot is known in part for its breakfast dishes along with its Italian and Italian-American fare.

The address for The Venetian Restaurant is 909 Broad Street, East Weymouth, MA, 02189. Its website can be found at http://www.venetianrestaurant.com/

[August 14 update: The Venetian remains open for now but a Facebook post indicates that the ownership change will become official in the "near future."]
