Update: Ironside Grill in Charlestown Is Closed; Ironside Tavern Plans to Replace It

[Ed note: This article was updated on October 9 to reflect new information on the restaurant moving into the space.]

A popular neighborhood watering hole in Charlestown that has been in business for a long time has shuttered.

Based on a couple of checks on the spot over the weekend, Ironside Grill on Park Street is locked up and dark, with calls placed to the restaurant and bar going directly to voicemail and the message saying that the mailbox is full. Ironside Grill has been around for approximately 70 years, based on an old Patch article.

The address for Ironside Grill is 25 Park Street, Charlestown, MA, 02129.

[September 24 update: According to a business entity summary page within the Secretary of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts website, Eric Aulenback of Monument Restaurant & Tavern in Charlestown and several other local spots appears to have taken over the Ironside Grill space, and while the Ironside Grill name is shown on the page, it is not known if any new restaurant coming to the space would be called that or if it would get a different name--and it is not yet known what the concept might be.]

[October 9 update: A licensing board hearing page within the City of Boston website indicates that the restaurant taking over the Ironside Grill space will be called Ironside Tavern, with Jon Sweeney being the manager; Sweeney comes from Monument Restaurant & Tavern, so based on that (and the fact that Eric Aulenback is involved as well), the upcoming place does seem to have at least an indirect connection to Monument.]
