According to an article within the bostonchefs.com site, Good Company is planning to open at Hood Park in Charlestown, with Seth Freidus (Eastern Standard, Alden & Harlow, Waypoint, Ledger, Bar Volpe, Contessa) being behind it. The post mentions that Freidus had been hoping to open the place in 2020 but it was delayed due to the pandemic; if all goes as planned, Good Company will debut sometime this fall.

Freidus was beverage director at both Alden & Harlow and Waypoint, with the former being awarded best bar program by Boston Magazine in 2015 and the latter being awarded Best Cocktail Program from Boston Magazine in 2017.

The address for Good Company is 100 Hood Park Drive, Charlestown, MA, 02129. Its website is at https://www.goodcompanyboston.com/ while its Instagram page is at https://www.instagram.com/goodcompanybos/

[November 15 update: According to a press release, Good Company debuts this evening, with the new spot offering a variety of cocktails along with beer, wine, flights of spirits (rum, agave, bourbon and rye, Irish whiskey and scotch, Japanese whiskey, cognac, armagnac, and sherry), and food options such as oysters, fried green olives, wings, burgers, crab toast, steak tartare, ice cream sandwiches, and more.]

Sullivan's Public House Is Opening in the Former Sullivan's Pub Space in Charlestown

A new dining and drinking spot is getting ready to open where a neighborhood bar in Charlestown had been, and it will have a similar name, though the concept appears to be a bit different.

According to multiple sources, Sullivan's Public House is opening very soon in the former Sullivan's Pub space on Main Street, with a Facebook post from the place indicating that it will apparently focus more on food than the previous watering hole, offering such items as scotch eggs, potato soup, soda bread, wings, potato boxty, grilled cheese, brick chicken, sirloin steak, a burger, hummus, and more, while also offering beer, wine, cider, and cocktails, the latter of which includes martinis, black velvets, chilled Irish coffee, and margaritas.

Sullivan's Pub was a cash-only watering hole that was mainly a local hangout.

The address for Sullivan's Public House is 85 Main Street, Charlestown, MA, 02129. Its Facebook page can be found at https://www.facebook.com/sullivanspublic

[March 12 update: According to its Facebook page, Sullivan's Public House is now open.]

Update: Ironside Grill in Charlestown Is Closed; Ironside Tavern Plans to Replace It

[Ed note: This article was updated on October 9 to reflect new information on the restaurant moving into the space.]

A popular neighborhood watering hole in Charlestown that has been in business for a long time has shuttered.

Based on a couple of checks on the spot over the weekend, Ironside Grill on Park Street is locked up and dark, with calls placed to the restaurant and bar going directly to voicemail and the message saying that the mailbox is full. Ironside Grill has been around for approximately 70 years, based on an old Patch article.

The address for Ironside Grill is 25 Park Street, Charlestown, MA, 02129.

[September 24 update: According to a business entity summary page within the Secretary of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts website, Eric Aulenback of Monument Restaurant & Tavern in Charlestown and several other local spots appears to have taken over the Ironside Grill space, and while the Ironside Grill name is shown on the page, it is not known if any new restaurant coming to the space would be called that or if it would get a different name--and it is not yet known what the concept might be.]

[October 9 update: A licensing board hearing page within the City of Boston website indicates that the restaurant taking over the Ironside Grill space will be called Ironside Tavern, with Jon Sweeney being the manager; Sweeney comes from Monument Restaurant & Tavern, so based on that (and the fact that Eric Aulenback is involved as well), the upcoming place does seem to have at least an indirect connection to Monument.]
