[Ed note: This article was updated on November 19 to reflect the fact that the restaurant now plans to reopen.]
For a short time, it looked like a group of neighborhood restaurants known in part for its small plates and New American fare appeared to have shut down its original location, but now there seems to be a ray of hope.
According to a source (Young-Ho Yoon), The Local in West Newton is shuttered, with a picture sent showing a "For Lease" sign out front. A check on the website for the group of dining spots shows that the Washington Street space has been removed from the locations section, though locations in Waltham, Wayland, Wellesley, and Woburn remain in operation. A source now tells us, however, that the West Newton location hopes to open back up even though it had been for lease, with a Patch article saying that owner Frank Santo was able to make a deal with the landlord and that it could be reopening as soon as December.
The West Newton location of The Local first opened in 2008, with the place being seen as a gastropub-style eatery.
The address for The Local in West Newton was 1391 Washington Street, West Newton, MA 02465. The website for the other locations of The Local can be found at http://liveeatlocal.com/
[February 10, 2021 update: A Facebook post from the place indicates that the West Newton location of The Local is now open for takeout only.]
