A couple of months ago, it was reported that the only Polish restaurant in Boston had shut down, but a surprising announcement has just come from the people behind the place.
According to multiple sources (including a poster within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page), Cafe Polonia in South Boston opens back up today, with a Facebook post from the Dorchester Avenue eatery confirming this, saying that "We are happy to announce that after almost a year, Cafe Polonia is reopening on Friday January 8, 2021!" Back in November, we were told by a source that the restaurant was no longer in business, and a message sent to us at the time from Baltic European Deli (which is affiliated to the dining spot and resides across the street) said that it had indeed closed its doors.
Cafe Polonia first opened in 2002, with the place offering such items as beef tripe soup, kielbasa and cabbage stew, pierogi, blood sausage, potato pancakes with smoked salmon, pork chops, rainbow trout, and more.
The address for Cafe Polonia is 611 Dorchester Avenue, South Boston, MA, 02127. Its website is at https://cafepolonia.com/
[February 2 update: @FortPointer indicates (via an article from South Boston Online) that Cafe Polonia is actually under new ownership, though the menu and space remains as is.]
