Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Plans to Open in the Former ShowPlace Icon Theatre Space in Boston's Seaport District

An iconic theater chain that offers food and drink--and is known for its strict policy on behavior--is on its way to the Boston waterfront.

According to an article in boston.com, Alamo Drafthouse Cinema is planning to open in the city's Seaport District, taking over the space on Seaport Boulevard that had been home to ShowPlace Icon Theatre. The post says that the 10-screen theater will have 767 seats and scratch-made food along with beer, and a separate full-service bar called The Press Room will offer local beers, wine, and cocktails, while also displaying more than 10,000 vintage movie ad plates. If all goes as planned, the Seaport District location of Alamo Drafthouse Cinema will open in early 2023.

Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, which was founded in Austin, TX, in 1997, is known in part for its showing of indie and foreign films as well as classics and documentaries--and its policy of requiring proper etiquette, including asking cinemagoers to not talk or text during the films.

The address for the upcoming Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in the Seaport District is 60 Seaport Boulevard, Boston, MA, 02210. The website for the chain can be found at https://drafthouse.com/
