IHOP in Brighton Could Be Torn Down to Make Way for an Affordable Housing/Life-Sciences Development

It looks like one of the only 24/7 dining spots in Boston could be going away.

According to an article from Universal Hub, a developer has submitted a proposal to build an affordable housing/life-sciences complex with retail space on Soldiers Field Road in Brighton which would be at the site of a location of IHOP along with a former motel, a car dealership, and an HVAC contractor. If approved and the IHOP is demolished, that would apparently leave only one remaining 24/7 restaurant for sit-down dining in the entire city--the South Steet Diner in the Leather District.

Several other locations of IHOP can be found in the Greater Boston area, including one in Revere that is open 24 hours.

The address for IHOP in Brighton is 1850 Soldiers Field Road, Brighton, MA, 02135. The website for the chain can be found at https://www.ihop.com/

South Street Diner in Boston's Leather District Remains Open 24/7, But Only for Curbside Pickup/Delivery

Late last week it was reported that one of only two 24-hour restaurants in all of Boston had cut back on its hours, leaving only one 24/7 spot remaining. Now we have learned that that dining spot will remain open all day and all night even with a new advisory now in place for the city, but with one change.

According to a message sent to us, South Street Diner in the city's Leather District will continue to be open 24/7, saying that they "are here to service the first responders and the community." The note says that takeout will no longer be an option, however, which may be a change made due to a public health advisory issued by Mayor Marty Walsh asking all nonessential workers to stay in their homes between the hours of 9:00 PM and 6:00 AM.

On Thursday, it was learned that IHOP in Brighton--which had been open all day and all night--cut their hours to 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM; no other restaurants in Boston are open 24/7, though as of late last week, Bova's Bakery in the North End remained open 24 hours a day (it is not yet known whether Walsh's new guidelines could cause them to change their hours).

IHOP in Brighton Cuts Hours; South Street Diner in Leather District Is Now Sole 24/7 Restaurant in Boston

A popular spot in Brighton for late-night (or early-morning) dining has cut back its hours, which means that the city of Boston now has only one 24/7 restaurant remaining.

According to a post from Universal Hub, IHOP on Soldiers Field Road is now longer open day and night, with its new hours being 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM in what appears to be a response to the coronavirus outbreak. Because of this, the South Street Diner in the Leather District is the only restaurant left in the city that is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week (takeout or delivery), though Bova's Bakery--which is technically not a restaurant--in the North End remains open 24/7 while Victoria's Diner on the Roxbury/Dorchester line--which used to be open all night on Fridays and Saturdays--is now only open for takeout/delivery from 7:00 AM to 2:00 PM seven days a week.

Restaurants in the Boston area and elsewhere in Massachusetts remain in a lockdown of sorts where the dining and bar areas are off-limits to the public, with takeout/delivery being the only options.

Bar Moxy Is Opening within Moxy Hotel in Boston's Theater District

A new restaurant is coming to downtown Boston, and it will be joining the very few 24-hour dining spots in the city.

According to an article from Eater Boston, Bar Moxy is opening inside a new hotel called Moxy Boston Downtown, which will be located on Tremont Street in the city's Theater District. The post says that the restaurant will be open to the public and it will offer breakfast, lunch, and dinner as well as late-night food, and beer, wine, and cocktails will be available. (A rooftop bar and lounge will also be located at the hotel, but it will not be open to the public.) If all goes as planned, Bar Moxy could be opening sometime during the week of September 23.

Currently, there are only a handful of restaurants and food spots in Boston that are open 24 hours; the list includes South Street Diner in the Leather District, Bova's in the North End, IHOP in Brighton, and Victoria's Diner on the Roxbury/Dorchester line (Victoria's is only open 24 hours from Thursday into the weekend).

The address for Bar Moxy (and the Moxy hotel) is 240 Tremont Street, Boston, MA, 02116. The web page for the hotel can be found at http://moxy-hotels.marriott.com/en/hotels/boston-downtown

[October 4 update: Eater Boston states that Bar Moxy is now open, along with the Moxy hotel, with breakfast, lunch, and dinner offered along with 24-hour grab-and-go meals.]
