Carbone's in Hopkinton Is Closing

A longtime Italian restaurant in the western suburbs of Boston that appeared to be closing around the start of the pandemic only to remain open is now closing for real.

According to a source, Carbone's Restaurant in Hopkinton is shutting down, with a MassLive article mentioning that the Cedar Street dining spot is planning to close on June 27, as co-owners (and siblings) Mary Ann Lorentzen and Peter Carbone are looking to retire. The restaurant, which has been around for 93 years, looked like it was going to shutter in the fall of 2020, as the owners were seeking to sell the business with the hope being that a new owner would continue to run the restaurant, though the decision would have ultimately been made by the person who purchased the place; Carbone's never did get sold and remained open for business through the pandemic and beyond.

Lone Wolf BBQ Is Opening in Hopkinton

It looks like a brand new barbecue restaurant is opening west of Boston. 

A source tells us (via a post that they saw within the Chew On This Facebook group page) that Lone Wolf BBQ is planning to open in Hopkinton, with an article from the Hopkinton Independent saying that the dining spot would be opening in the space on Main Street that had been home to Bittersweet. The article indicates that the proposed restaurant plans to offer lunch and dinner while breakfast is a possibility as well, and it appears that it could be opening very soon.

Carbone's in Hopkinton May Be Closing; Restaurant Space Apparently Going Up for Sale

It looks like an Italian restaurant in the western suburbs of Boston that has been around for nearly 90 years could be shutting down, and the space appears to be going on the market.

According to an article from the Hopkinton Independent, Carbone's Restaurant on Cedar Street is planning to close its doors sometime this fall, with the family behind the dining spot saying that "There were many business and personal reasons, too numerous to mention here, that went into this decision, a decision that we are not taking lightly, and we announce with a great deal of sadness." The post mentions that owner Peter Carbone is hoping that any new owner would continue to run the restaurant, though the decision would ultimately be made by the person who purchases the place, while the estimated window of the closing of Carbone's may be four to six weeks from now, though this is not written in stone.

Carbone's first opened in 1933, with the restaurant being known in part for its classic Italian-American fare including such dishes as chicken picatta, veal parmesan, shrimp scampi, lasagna, ravioli, pizza, and more.

The Marathon Restaurant at North Pond Opens in Hopkinton

A dining spot in Hopkinton that we had mentioned awhile back is now open for business. The Marathon Restaurant at North Pond opened on Monday, September 28, moving into the spot on Hayward Street where Caffe Italiano used to be before closing earlier this year. The restaurant looks to feature mostly American fare and comfort food.

Items on the dinner menu at The Marathon Restaurant at North Pond include mussels, crab cakes, French onion soup, a roasted beet and goat cheese salad, NY sirloin, turkey tips, macaroni and cheese, grilled salmon, and chicken pot pie. Their lunch menu and bar menu both include pizza and a variety of sandwiches. They also have a brunch menu that includes French toast, pancakes, omelets, and more. (A children's menu is also available at the restaurant.)

Hours for The Marathon Restaurant at North Pond are 11:30 AM to 10:00 PM Monday to Wednesday, 11:30 AM to 11:00 PM on Thursdays, 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM on Fridays and Saturdays, and 12:00 AM to 10:00 PM on Sundays.

Marathon Restaurant Opening Soon in Hopkinton

An upscale American bistro will soon be opening in Hopkinton, taking the place of an Italian dining spot that recently closed on Hayward Street just west of Route 495. According to the MetroWest Daily News, the Marathon Restaurant at North Pond should be coming to town sometime around the end of August, and will feature dishes such as such as macaroni and cheese, steak, and grilled pizzas. The newspaper also mentions that the restaurant will have two separate floors, with a casual dining area and bar upstairs and a more formal dining room below. The restaurant replaces Caffe Italiano, which closed in the spring. [SEPTEMBER 1 UPDATE: According to a job posting on Craigslist, The Marathon Restaurant will not be opening until September 28.]
