The Tack Room Is Opening in the Former Real/Lincoln Kitchen/AKA Bistro Space in Lincoln

Earlier this year, it was reported that a new restaurant was looking to open in a western suburb of Boston with very few dining options, only to have it fall through. Now we have learned that another dining spot is planning to open in the space.

According to a source, The Tack Room is planning to open in Lincoln, taking over the space on Lincoln Road that had been home to Real and before that, Lincoln Kitchen and AKA Bistro. An article from The Lincoln Squirrel mentions that the restaurant will have a rustic atmosphere and offer "elevated comfort food" that is reasonably priced and that it will be open for lunch, dinner, and brunch, with craft beer available (pending approval from the state Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission) along with a children's menu. The post says that Michael Culpo--who tends bar at Lulu's in Allston and is part-owner of the Black Oak Kitchen & Drinks in Coventry, RI--is behind the restaurant, which could be opening around Christmas if all goes well.

As mentioned earlier here, a dining spot called Turenne had been looking to open in the space, but those plans ended up falling through.

Plans for Turenne to Open in Lincoln Have Fallen Through; Future of Space Unknown

A couple of months ago, it was reported that the husband-and-wife team behind two popular dining spots in Somerville were looking to open a brick-and-mortar version of a Somerville popup in Lincoln. Now we have learned that this apparently won't be happening after all.

According to a source, plans for Tim and Bronwyn Wiechmann (Bronwyn, T&B Pizza) to open Turenne in Lincoln have fallen through, with a Lincoln Squirrel article quoting Geoff McGean (executive director of the Rural Land Foundation, which owns the space) as saying that "Lindsey Parker just informed us that her partnership with Turenne ended....We do not know any details, but from what she shared with us, Bronwyn and Tim from Turenne were brought in as potential operators of the restaurant but ultimately they could not reach an arrangement that worked for both parties." Parker was one of the owners of Real, a restaurant that resided in the space until it closed last November; she currently holds the lease for the space and is now apparently trying to find a new partner while also putting the space up for sale.

The Somerville location of Turenne is a takeout/delivery-only popup restaurant/bakery in Union Square that resides within the T&B Pizza space (T&B is currently hibernating); the plans for the brick-and-mortar version in Lincoln had included a wine shop, provisions, and live music while possibly offering such options as Montreal-style bagels, pastries, breads, charcuterie, pizza, smoothies, coffee, tea, and more depending on how similar the menu would have been to the popup.

According to the Tables section of The Boston Globe, Tim and Bronwyn Wiechmann (Bronwyn, T&B Pizza) are planning to open Turenne in Lincoln, taking over the space on Lincoln Road that had been home to Real and before that, Lincoln Kitchen and AKA Bistro. The post says that the new spot will be an offshoot of a takeout/delivery-only popup restaurant/bakery by the same name in Somerville's Union Square that resides within the T&B Pizza space (T&B is currently hibernating), and that the Lincoln eatery will include a wine shop, provisions, and live music while possibly offering such options as Montreal-style bagels, pastries, breads, charcuterie, pizza, smoothies, coffee, tea, and more depending on how similar the menu will be to that of the Somerville location.

The website for Turenne describes the Lincoln location as a second home for Turenne that will be "a country manor and garden," while the Globe post says that it hopes to soft-open on April 1.

Real Is Opening in the Former Lincoln Kitchen/AKA Bistro Space in Lincoln

A new restaurant is on its way to a Boston suburb that currently has very few dining options, and the people behind it come from a few of the best-known dining spots in the region.

An email sent to us indicates that Real is planning to open in Lincoln, moving into the space by Lincoln Station that had been home to both Lincoln Kitchen and AKA Bistro. The new spot, which will initially be open for dinner only but will eventually add a weekend brunch, will be a casual upscale restaurant featuring comfort food dishes and seasonal items, while a full bar will include 10 beer taps.

Both the email and a posting within the bostonchefs.com jobs section mention that the husband-and-wife team behind the place are Tom Fosnot and Ruth-Anne Adams, and that they are partnering with Lindsey Parker; Fosnot comes from The Gibbet Hill Grill in Groton and the now-closed Rocca Kitchen and Bar in Boston's South End and Rialto in Cambridge's Harvard Square while Adams comes from the now-closed Casablanca in Harvard Square--and the bostonchefs.com page also says that they have worked at Clio and Hamersley's Bistro (both of which are closed).

If all goes as planned, Real could be opening sometime in March.

Twisted Tree Cafe Is Opening in Former Trail's End Cafe Space in Lincoln

A new cafe and coffee shop is on its way to a Boston suburb that has very few dining options.

According to a poster within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page, the Twisted Tree Cafe is opening in Lincoln, moving into the space on Lincoln Road where a location of Trail's End Cafe had been. An earlier article from The Lincoln Squirrel confirms this, saying that the place will be serving breakfast and lunch, while the website for the eatery indicates that it could be very close to opening, stating that it plans to open late this month (it isn't known for sure whether this is still the case).

Trail's End Cafe first opened in Lincoln in late 2016, taking over the space where the Whistle Stop Cafe had been; the people behind that restaurant also run another location of Trail's End in Concord along with the newly-opened Concord Market and the now-closed Lincoln Kitchen, the latter of which was next to the former Trail's End in Lincoln (and upcoming Twisted Tree Cafe).

Owners of Trail’s End Cafe in Concord to Take Over AKA Bistro, Whistle Stop Cafe Spaces in Lincoln

The people behind a comfort food spot in the western suburbs of Boston are going to be opening two restaurants in a neighboring town that currently has very few options for dining.

According to an article in The Lincoln Squirrel, Jim and Carol White and their daughter Elizabeth Akehurst-Moore of the Trail's End Cafe in Concord have signed leases for the spaces in the Lincoln Station complex where AKA Bistro and the Whistle Stop Cafe had been, with the former becoming a high-end comfort food place called Lincoln Kitchen and the latter becoming a second location of the Trail's End Cafe. If all goes as planned, the new location of Trail's End Cafe could open by the end of this month and Lincoln Kitchen may open later this fall.

For awhile, it looked like a new restaurant called Blazes might go into the AKA Bistro space, but plans for that apparently fell through and the owner of that proposed spot may be looking elsewhere now, according to the article.

AKA Bistro in Lincoln Is Closing

It looks like an upscale suburban restaurant is getting ready to close its doors for good.

A message sent from The Passionate Foodie indicates that AKA Bistro in Lincoln is planning to shut down, with the closing date possibly being around May 8 or 9. No reason has been given for the closure as of yet, nor is it known what might go into the space; as soon as we find out more, we will post an update here.

[May 3 update: According to a new message from The Passionate Foodie, AKA Bistro closes for good at the end of business hours on Mother's Day (Sunday, May 8).]

Christian Touche and Chris Chung first opened AKA Bistro by the Mall at Lincoln Station in the spring of 2010, with the restaurant featuring both French and Japanese fare. Touche had formerly been at the now-closed Clio in Boston's Back Bay, while Chung had been at Uni, which was adjacent to Clio and recently took over the Clio space.

Lincoln May Get Three Liquor Licenses

A mostly rural northwest suburb of Boston that is basically dry might be a little less dry soon, depending on what voters have to say about the matter.

According to the Lincoln Journal and Wicked Local, the town of Lincoln is considering having three liquor licenses issued, which, if approved by voters, would go to a restaurant (AKA Bistro), a market (Donelan's), and a residential community (The Groves). AKA Bistro is currently able to serve beer and wine, but this license would allow them to sell liquor, while the license for Donelan's would allow the market to carry beer and wine. As for The Groves, the license would let the residential complex serve alcohol at various events that are held there.

The article mentions that if voters ok the issuance of liquor licenses on March 26 (and the Massachusetts Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission subsequently approves it), it would be the first time in approximately 250 years that folks could buy a bottle of beer or wine in a store in Lincoln.

AKA Bistro Is Coming to Lincoln

A beautiful Boston suburb just west of Route 128 that has little in the way of restaurants is going to be home to a new French bistro and sashimi bar this coming spring.

According to the Lincoln Journal and Wicked Local, AKA Bistro will be opening at the Mall at Lincoln Station on Lincoln Road, bringing with it a restaurant manager and a chef from the Boston restaurant scene. Christian Touche and Chris Chung from Back Bay dining spots Clio Restaurant and Uni Sashimi Bar will be collaborating on this casual new restaurant that may be opening by March. [March 26 update: It looks like AKA Bistro will be opening on Monday, March 29.]

A press release sent to us by Barbara Quiroga and Associates states that Chris Chung, who recently received the 2009 Boston Rising Star award, will work as executive chef while Christian Touche will supervise the front of the restaurant, and another chef will be brought in to focus on the French fare. The press release also mentions that AKA Bistro will be the first dining spot in the Boston area to serve Kindai tuna (farm raised from the egg) from Japan.

The Lincoln Journal article says that AKA Bistro will serve both lunch and dinner, as well as brunch on the weekends.

Presently, Lincoln, Weston, and several other rural communities west of Boston have relatively few dining options, with Lincoln having no full-service restaurants at all that serve dinner.
