Mother Anna's in Medfield Is Closed; Exact Status Unknown

The newest location of a trio of Italian restaurants is locked up and dark, and it isn't know when--or if--it might reopen.

A check on the place over the past several weeks indicates that Mother Anna's in Medfield is shuttered, with a sign seen out front in early January saying that "We are closed for vacation Jan 1 to Jan 15th; see you on Jan 16th!" but a source now tells us that the dining spot remains closed and a check on the web page for the place indicates that it redirects to the Pembroke location while phone calls indicate that its phone number is no longer in service. With the temporary closing of the North End location starting in 2023, this means that at least for now, the only location remaining open in the Pembroke one, and as is the case with the Medfield outlet, there is no information on whether the North End location might open back up, either.

Mother Anna's first opened in Medfield in the summer of 2024.

The address for the currently-closed Mother Anna's in Medfield is 18 N. Meadows Road, Medfield, MA, 02052.

Mother Anna's Opens in Medfield

Last fall, it was reported that an Italian restaurant in Boston that had been in business for more than 90 years before temporarily closing could be expanding to the southwest suburbs of Boston, and now we have learned that its new location has debuted.

According to a source, Mother Anna's is now open in Medfield, moving into a space on N. Meadows Road on the northern edge of the town center. The new location joins another in Pembroke, and we are hearing that the original on Hanover Street in the North End is still planning to reopen at some point.

Mother Anna's is known for such classic Italian dishes as shrimp scampi, eggplant rollatini, lasagna, baked manicotti, fettuccine alfredo, linguine with garlic and oil, chicken parmigiana, steak pizzaiola, veal cacciatore, and more.

The address for Mother Anna's in Medfield is 18 N. Meadows Road, Medfield, MA, 02052. Its website can be found at https://www.motherannasmedfield.com/

Mother Anna's May Be Opening in Medfield

Yesterday, it was reported that a North End restaurant that has been in business for more than 90 years is closed for renovations, and now we have learned that another location could be coming to the southwest suburbs of Boston.

According to a poster within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page, Mother Anna's is looking to open in Medfield, with a meeting notice from last month showing that "Mother Anna's, Inc." is seeking a liquor license, common victualler license, and entertainment license to operate in a space on N. Meadows Road. This comes on the heels of news that Mother Anna's on Hanover Street is now locked up and dark with a sign out front saying "closed for renovations" and "watch for our re-opening summer 2024."

Another location of Mother Anna's can be found in Pembroke.

The address for the proposed location of Mother Anna's in Medfield is 18 N. Meadows Road, Medfield, MA, 02052.

Update: Zebra's Bistro and Wine Bar in Medfield Is Closing; Nosh & Grog Provisions Replacing It

[Ed note: This article was updated on August 1 to reflect new information given, including a name for the place, which is now open.]

An award-winning suburban restaurant is closing, and it is being replaced by a new spot from the same owners.

According to a Facebook post from the place, Zebra's Bistro and Wine Bar in Medfield is shutting down to make way for a new restaurant with a new name, with a post in the comments section indicating that it closes at the end of business hours on Sunday, July 3. A note on Zebra's website shows that the upcoming eatery will be a spot that "is easy, approachable, and playful showcasing seasonal product prepared with a lot of love and soul. It will be a spot where you want to meet friends and hang out over a glass of wine, beer or an expertly crafted cocktail." A new dining room and bar will be built in the space, and Chef Joshua Bottini (Spago in Las Vegas, Davios in Chestnut Hill, The Franklin Group in Boston, Church & Main in Burlington, VT, The Ocean House in Watch Hill, RI) will be heading up the kitchen.

Zebra's Bistro and Wine Bar, which first opened approximately 16 years ago, has received much praise over the years, with the restaurant's website showing that it has received a "Best of Boston" from Boston Magazine, an Award of Excellence from Wine Spectator, a Great 8 from the Phantom Gourmet, and more.

The address for Zebra's (and the upcoming restaurant that is replacing it) is 21 North Street, Medfield, MA, 02052.

[August 1 update: Eater Boston states that the name of the new restaurant is Nosh & Grog Provisions, and that it is now open for business; EB also says that the space has been renovated and now includes a U-shaped bar and a new seasonal menu with dishes using locally-sourced ingredients.]

Mangia Neapolitan Pizza Is Opening in the Former Park Street Books Space in Medfield

A small local chain of pizzerias is opening another new shop, with this one being in a space southwest of Boston where a bookstore used to be.

The Medfield Press is reporting that Mangia Neapolitan Pizza plans to open a new location in Medfield, moving into the former Park Street Books spot (the bookstore has moved to Main Street). The article says that the shop would actually be a combination pizzeria/frozen yogurt place, with the pizza place to the left and the frozen yogurt spot to the right, and outdoor seating would be available. The Zoning Board of Appeals may take a final vote on the proposed eatery in July, according to the Press.

Mangia currently has locations in Boston's South End, Canton, Cohasset, Holliston, Hopkinton, Norton, Sharon, and Wenham, as well as one in Barrington, RI.

The address for this new pizzeria in Medfield is Mangia Neapolitan Pizza, 26 Park Street, Medfield, MA, 02052. The website can be found at: http://www.eatmangiapizza.com/
