Giana Restaurant + Bar Opens in South Easton

A new upscale restaurant that features American fare with global influences has come to the southern suburbs of Boston.

According to a poster within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page, Giana Restaurant + Bar is now open in South Easton, moving into a space on Roosevelt Circle just north of where Route 138 and Route 123 east meet. An Enterprise News article says that the new spot offers American dishes with Italian and Asian influences including pasta, pizza, sushi, steaks, burgers, and wings, and it includes an open kitchen, a 44-seat bar, and a 40-seat patio.

Kinfolks Award Winning BBQ in South Easton Has Closed; Taunton Location Remains in Operation

A pair of BBQ spots with an award-winning pitmaster behind them is now back down to just one.

According to a source, Kinfolks Award Winning BBQ in South Easton is no longer in operation, with a MassLive article showing a Facebook post from the business indicating that the closure is "Due to labor shortages." The article does say that the Taunton location of Kinfolks remains open.

MassLive mentions that the owner of Kinfolks had won approximately 200 barbecue awards over the years (we have been told that the awards were from competitions in Florida).

Kinfolks BBQ & Fried Chicken Opens in South Easton

The person behind a barbecue spot in Taunton has opened a second restaurant in a neighboring town.

According to an article from The Enterprise, Kinfolks BBQ & Fried Chicken is now open in South Easton, joining Kinfolks Award Winning BBQ in Taunton. The menu for the new spot shows such items as pulled pork, brisket, fried chicken, ribs, macaroni and cheese, hush puppies, baked beans, yams, collard greens, and fried okra, and owner Sylvester English says that he hopes to start a franchise of barbecue and fried chicken restaurants within the next ten years.

English, who comes from Tallahassee, FL, started the business out as a food trailer in Taunton in 2013, with his first restaurant debuting in that city in 2018.

Kinfolks Award Winning BBQ Is Opening in South Easton

It looks like a BBQ spot in Taunton will be joined by a second location just a bit closer to Boston.

According to a Facebook post from the place, Kinfolks Award Winning BBQ has found a space within the Highlands shopping plaza in South Easton, with the note saying that this will be a "complete rebuild," so it probably will not be open until at least the summer of 2020. Based on the offerings at the location on Route 44 in Taunton, the upcoming restaurant could feature such items as pulled pork, brisket, smoked and/or fried chicken, ribs, macaroni and cheese, collard greens, fried okra, hush puppies, and more.

An earlier article from PigTrip indicates that the owner of Kinfolks has won approximately 200 barbecue awards over the years.

Andrews Bakery and Cafe in Easton Has Closed

A family-owned bakery south of Boston has closed its doors for good after being in business for almost 30 years.

The Enterprise is reporting that Andrews Bakery and Cafe in Easton is no longer in operation, as the store shut down last weekend. The article indicates that the owners of the shop--Julie and Bob Andrews--have decided to retire, with Julie saying that "I'm 74 years old and my body is saying enough is enough." Andrews Bakery and Cafe first opened in the late 1980s and moved twice, from 19 Belmont Street to the 574 Washington Street plaza and then to its final home at 123 Belmont Street.

The post says that Julie and Bob Andrews, who live in a house that was attached to the shop, will be moving to Belfast, ME.

Blackthorne Publick House in South Easton Has Closed

A restaurant and bar south of Boston has closed, continuing the trend of dining and drinking spots opening and closing within that space.

The Enterprise is reporting that the Blackthorne Publick House in South Easton shut its doors over the weekend, with a note on the closure being posted to its Facebook page before the page itself was deleted. The pub was one of a string of places to come and go at the site on Route 138, including such spots as Hibernia Bar and Grille, the Blackthorne Tavern, The 402, Brennan's Grille and Irish Tavern, and the Pickle Barrel Room.

The people behind the Blackthorne Publick House had previous operated the Channel Cafe in Boston's Fort Point neighborhood.

Foundry Kitchen to Open in Former Loco Tapas Space in Easton

Last fall we reported that a tapas restaurant south of Boston had temporarily closed, as it was looking to "re-imagine" the place. Now we have learned that the closure is permanent, with the owner of a nearby restaurant and bar opening a new eatery in the space.

The Easton Journal and Enterprise is reporting that Neil Levine of Maguire's Bar & Grill on Foundry Street is going to open Foundry Kitchen in the space (also on Foundry Street) where Loco Tapas & Wine Bar had been. The article says that Maguire--along with his backers and partners--purchased the building in an auction over the winter, with the keys to the place being given to him last week. It looks like Foundry Kitchen will focus on New American cuisine with Asian, French, and Italian influences, with the restaurant being open for dinner only. No big changes are expected to be made to the space, according to the article.

Loco Tapas and Wine Bar in South Easton to "Re-Imagine" the Restaurant

A tapas restaurant south of Boston has closed its doors, and changes are apparently coming--though it is not yet known what these changes will be.

According to its website, Loco Tapas & Wine Bar in South Easton is shuttered until after the holiday season, as it looks to "re-imagine" the place in order to "enhance and improve both our guest and staff experience." The Foundry Street eatery, which had formerly been located in another part of Easton, has been featured on our sister site (Boston's Hidden Restaurants) as an under-the-radar spot to go to for Spanish tapas and meals. Owners of Now-Closed Channel Cafe in Boston Are Opening Blackthorne Publick House in South Easton

Earlier this year, we reported that a restaurant and art gallery in Boston was closing, with the plans being for the folks behind it to open a new restaurant in Newton. Those plans seem to have fallen through, but now it has been learned that the owners of the place will be opening a new spot south of the city--and the tentative name for it may sound a bit familiar to some.

According to a Facebook post from Sunday, the people behind the now-closed Channel Cafe on Summer Street in Boston's Fort Point neighborhood are looking to open what could be called the Blackthorne Publick House in South Easton. The upcoming dining and drinking establishment will be taking over the space on Turnpike Road that was home to the Hibernia Grille, and before that, the Blackthorne Tavern (the new place takes part of its name from this spot).

It is not yet known exactly when the new restaurant could be opening, as the post says that "it will be mid-November or later before we have all the licenses fully transferred. But before the end of the year, it is officially going to be ours."

[March 17, 2014 update: A source tells us that the Blackthorne Publick House has opened, with a check on its Facebook page indicating that it apparently opened in February.]

Chaloos Restaurant Opens in South Easton

A new restaurant has just opened south of Boston, and it joins a handful of Persian dining spots that call the Greater Boston area their home.

Based on their website, Chaloos is now open on Washington Street (Routes 138 and 123) in South Easton, a short distance west of Route 24. The eatery appears to feature kabobs, but also serves Persian rice dishes, stews, wraps, and wood-oven pizzas, as well as appetizers such as grape leaves and falafel, and desserts such as faludeh (frozen rice noodles with rose water) and rollet (rolled cake filled with cream).

Chaloos is open for lunch and dinner seven days a week.

The latest review on the Boston's Hidden Restaurants Web site is for Loco Tapas and Wine Bar, a Spanish tapas restaurant in South Easton. Located on Foundry Street (Routes 106 and 123) a short distance east of the Mansfield line, Loco Tapas and Wine Bar is a cozy, intimate, upscale spot in an area that doesn't have many higher-end restaurants. The restaurant includes a lounge to the left and a dining area to the right. The menu at Loco Tapas features a mix of hot and cold tapas options, as well as a number of Spanish and Mediterranean entrees. The 402: A New Restaurant Coming Soon to Easton

The 402, a barbecue joint and pub, will be opening soon in Easton. This new dining spot will be taking the place of Brennan's, an Irish pub that closed a few months ago. No specific opening date has been given, but when we hear of one, we will post it here.

New Location for Loco Tapas and Wine Bar in South Easton

Loco Tapas and Wine Bar, a Spanish restaurant in South Easton, is having a grand re-opening on Thursday, January 10 in a new location. Formerly located at 420 Turnpike Street (Route 138), Loco will now be at 520 Foundry street (Route 106), which is a few miles west of the old location, as well as the Route 106/24 intersection.

The new location for Loco will not be much different in size, but it will be a better spot for Loco's catering business.
