Sally's Apizza Opens in Woburn December 14

A legendary Connecticut pizzeria is slated to arrive in the Greater Boston area next week.

According to an article in The Boston Globe, Sally's Apizza is opening in Woburn on Thursday, December 14, moving into a space within the Woburn Village mixed-use development. Plans for the new location of Sally's were first announced back in the summer of 2021, and it was learned this summer that another outlet is being planned for Boston's Seaport District as well.

Sally's Apizza, which first opened in 1938 and has been under new ownership for a few years, is one of several New Haven spots--including Pepe's and Modern--that have gained national recognition for their pizza, with Sally's and Pepe's using coal-fired brick ovens for their pizzas which help give a char to the crust. (Other Connecticut locations of Sally's are in Fairfield and Stamford, and outlets in Newington, Norwalk, and Wethersfield are in the works as well.)

Sally's Apizza to Open in Boston's Fort Point/Seaport District

A Connecticut restaurant that is often mentioned as being one of the best places in the country for pizza is coming to the Boston waterfront.

According to a page within its website, Sally's Apizza is planning to open in the city's Fort Point/Seaport District, saying that it looks to open sometime in 2024 while also showing an aerial picture of Fan Pier, though an exact address has not been given as of yet. It looks like this will be the second location of the pizza spot in the Greater Boston area, as another is slated to open at Woburn Village this year [ed note--now open], and both will be joining the original in New Haven along with ones in Fairfield and Stamford. (Others are also in the works for Newington, Norwalk, and Wethersfield.)

Sally's Apizza Is Planning to Expand to the Greater Boston Area

A landmark spot in Connecticut that is often mentioned as having some of the best pizza in the entire country appears to be on its way to the Greater Boston area.

According to an article from Eater Boston, Sally's Apizza in New Haven is looking to expand to the region, with director of marketing Krystina Nataloni confirming that the place is "in active discussions with leading developers in the greater Boston area," especially in the Woburn area. The post mentions that Sally's is currently in the process of a Connecticut expansion as well, with one coming soon to Stamford and others on their way to Fairfield, Norwalk, and Wethersfield.

Sally's Apizza, which first opened in 1938, came under new ownership a few years ago; the restaurant is one of several New Haven spots known for their pizza, including Modern and Pepe's, the latter of which now has locations in the Boston area and, like Sally's, relies on coal-fired ovens.

Apizza to Open at the Hub on Causeway Development in Boston

It looks like more New Haven-style pizza is on its way to Boston, and the owner of a South End restaurant is behind the place.

Eater Boston is reporting (via The Boston Globe) that Douglass Williams of Mida on Tremont Street is planning to open Apizza at the Hub on Causeway, which is currently being built at the site of the old Boston Garden by North Station. The upcoming eatery will offer New Haven-style thin-crust "apizza" by the slice or as a whole pie while also serving thicker Roman-style pizza by the slice or by the tray. Because of its location within a development that will include residential and office space along with restaurants and shops, the pies at Apizza will be cooked in an electric oven rather than the more traditional coal-fired oven, but the oven will be able to cook pizzas at temperatures of 1,000 degrees. If all goes as planned, Apizza could be opening sometime in the fall.

Currently, about the only options for New Haven-style pizza in the Greater Boston area are at locations of Pepe's in Chestnut Hill and Burlington; Roman-style pizza can be found at a few spots, including Eataly at the Pru, T&B Pizza in Somerville's Union Square, and Monti at Time Out Market Boston in the Fenway neighborhood.

Williams first opened Mida in the fall of 2016, with the restaurant featuring Italian fare including dishes found in various parts of Italy.
