Uno Pizzeria and Grill in Framingham Is Closing

A Boston-based group of deep-dish pizza spots continues to shrink, as a location west of the city is getting ready to shut down.

According to multiple sources, Uno Pizzeria and Grill in Framingham is going to be closing, with a Natick Report article indicating that the Route 9 location shutters today. Once it closes, only three outlets in the Greater Boston area will remain in operation--in Braintree, Dedham, and Revere.

There had once been many more locations of the chain locally, including in Boston's Back Bay, Fenway, and Symphony area along with Allston, Cambridge's Harvard Square and Porter Square, Burlington, Newton Corner, Swampscott, Waltham, and Woburn.

Uno Pizzeria and Grill in Boston's Kenmore Square Has Closed

A Boston-based group of deep-dish pizza spots has closed its last location within the Boston city limits.

A message sent to us from the company states that Uno Pizzeria and Grill in Kenmore Square has shut down permanently, confirming what a member of the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page had mentioned earlier. With the closing of this location, there are now no more outlets of Uno Pizzeria and Grill in Boston itself, as a location in the Back Bay shuttered last fall while another in the Symphony area closed a couple of years ago. (A downtown Boston location of another concept from the company called Uno Due Go is closed until further notice due to the pandemic and it is not known when--or if--it might reopen.)

Other locations of Uno in the Greater Boston area--including in Braintree, Dedham, Framingham, Revere, and Swampscott--remain in operation.

[June 25 update: A poster within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page indicates that the headquarters for Uno recently moved from West Roxbury to Norwood, so it is no longer technically located in Boston.]

Uno Pizzeria and Grill in Boston's Back Bay Has Closed

A Boston-based group of deep-dish pizza spots has closed yet another one of its local outlets, and now there is only one location remaining within the city limits.

According to a source, Uno Pizzeria and Grill in the Back Bay is no longer in operation, with the Boylston Street place shutting down yesterday. With the closing of this location, the only Uno left in Boston is in Kenmore Square--which remains in business--with some other local outlets being in Braintree, Dedham, Framingham, Revere, and Swampscott.

A number of other locations of Uno have closed over the past decade or so, including restaurants in Boston's Symphony area, Allston, Cambridge's Harvard Square and Porter Square, Burlington, Newton Corner, Waltham, and Woburn.

Uno Pizzeria and Grill in Woburn Is Closing; Looks to Return in 2020

A Boston-based group of deep-dish pizza spots is closing yet another one of its outlets, though it looks like this one could reopen within the next couple of years.

According to a source, Uno Pizzeria and Grill at the Woburn Mall is shutting down for construction, as the mall is apparently getting ready to be transformed into Woburn Village. We are told that the dining spot hopes to open back up at the site sometime in 2020, and while we have been given a closing date, we are waiting to hear back from the company to confirm it. An earlier article from the Daily Times Chronicle and another post from the Patch both indicate that the proposed Woburn Village would be an open-air mixed-used development with retail and residential space, with the development possibly being completed by November of 2019.

Uno currently has outlets in Boston's Back Bay and Kenmore Square, along with other Boston-area locations in Braintree, Dedham, Framingham, Revere, and Swampscott; a number of other locations have closed over the past decade or so, including restaurants in Boston's Symphony area, Allston, Cambridge's Harvard Square and Porter Square, Burlington, Newton Corner, and Waltham.

A Boston-based group of deep-dish pizza spots continues to get smaller, as one of its locations in the city has now closed.

According to a source, Uno Pizzeria and Grill near Symphony Hall is no longer in business, with a message sent from the company confirming that the Huntington Avenue eatery has indeed shut down. The message does mention that its other two Boston locations in the Back Bay and Kenmore Square remain open, and other locations in the region, including outlets in Braintree, Dedham, Framingham, Revere, Swampscott, and Woburn, remain in operation as well.

A number of locations of Uno's--whose headquarters are in West Roxbury--have closed over the past decade or so, including restaurants in Allston, Cambridge's Harvard Square and Porter Square, Burlington, Newton Corner, and Waltham.

Uno Pizzeria and Grill at the Burlington Mall Is Closing

A Boston-based group of deep-dish pizza spots continues to shrink, with one of its suburban locations now getting ready to close.

According to a source, Uno Pizzeria and Grill at the Burlington Mall is shutting down at the end of business hours on Sunday, with a phone call to the place confirming that it will indeed be closing that day. No reason has been given for the closure, with the only information given (via a picture of a sign about the closing of the place) saying that the eatery will have a going-away party in the bar on Friday evening while also saying that much of the staff at the Burlington location will take new job positions at the Woburn location.

The Burlington Mall outlet of Uno Pizzeria and Grill was one of the first in the Boston area, opening its doors nearly 30 years ago; it is one of three to close over the past couple of years, with locations in Cambridge's Harvard Square and Waltham shutting down as well. (Other locations have also closed over the past decade or so, including outlets in Newton Corner, Cambridge's Porter Square, and Allston.) Uno Pizzeria and Grill in Waltham Has Closed

A longtime location of a Boston-based group of deep-dish pizza spots has closed down, and it appears to be a quiet--and sudden--closure.

According to a source within the restaurant industry, Uno Pizzeria and Grill in Waltham is no longer in business, with a tweet from @EyesOnWaltham seeming to confirm this today as well. This is the second Uno location to close of late, as the outlet in Cambridge's Harvard Square shuttered this past September; it looks like locations in Boston (3), Braintree, Burlington, Dedham, Framingham, Revere, Swampscott, and Woburn remain in operation.

Uno was established in Chicago in 1943, with Uno Restaurant Holdings now having its headquarters in West Roxbury.

Uno Pizzeria and Grill in Cambridge's Harvard Square Has Closed

A popular location of a Boston-based group of deep-dish pizza spots has closed its doors, and it looks like high rents are to blame.

The Harvard Crimson is reporting that Uno Pizzeria and Grill in the Harvard Square section of Cambridge has shut down, with the chain's Chief Marketing Officer Skip Weldon saying "We tried very hard to cooperate with the landlord, but the rents are very high in Harvard Square....The rent prices have just gotten out of whack the last couple of years." A note on the front window of the JFK Street eatery refers customers to other locations of Uno; currently, three outlets be found in Boston, along with other locations in Braintree, Burlington, Dedham, Framingham, Revere, Swampscott, Waltham, and Woburn.

Uno started out in Chicago in 1943, with Uno Restaurant Holdings now being headquartered in West Roxbury.

Uno to Deliver 10,000 pizzas to U.S. Troops

A Boston-based restaurant chain that features deep-dish pizza is teaming up with a non-profit organization to help our troops in Central Asia.

According to The Boston Globe, Uno Restaurant Holdings and Pizzas 4 Patriots are setting up a "$5 for $50" fundraiser that allows diners to buy coupon books for $5 and get back $50 in coupons. The funds that are raised will help send 10,000 pizzas to members of the armed forces who are stationed in Afghanistan, with the pies being delivered on Super Bowl Sunday (February 5, 2012). Uno Pizza Chain to Emerge from Bankruptcy

About a half year after it filed for Chapter 11 protection, Uno Restaurant Holdings is getting ready to emerge from bankruptcy. According to boston.com, the Boston-based chain of restaurants that features deep-dish pizza will get approval for its reorganization plans from a federal bankruptcy judge. Uno had gone into a voluntary bankruptcy in January of this year with the goal being to restructure its debt and get its balance sheet back in order, which it has apparently done.

Over the past several months, a handful of Uno locations have closed, including ones in Allston and the Porter Square section of Cambridge.

Uno Pizza Chain Files for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy

A Boston-based chain of restaurants featuring deep-dish pizza has filed for bankruptcy. According to the Boston Globe, Uno Restaurant Holdings Corporation voluntarily filed for Chapter 11 protection this week, allowing the chain to restructure its debt and get its balance sheet back in order. The Globe mentions that Uno looks to stay in business, with little in the way of changes to its restaurants during the restructuring process.

According to the Globe article, three Uno restaurants have recently closed in Massachusetts (Fairhaven, Kingston, and Methuen), along with 13 others around the country that were underperforming. About 30 Uno locations remain open in the state, including four within the Boston city limits, two in Cambridge, and a handful of others in the suburbs. The corporate headquarters for Uno are in West Roxbury.
