Lanner Noodles & Bar in Cambridge's Central Square to Expand, Opening in Boston's Seaport District

A Chinese restaurant in Cambridge that features noodle dishes is expanding to the Boston waterfront.

According to a poster within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page, signs are up for Lanner Noodles & Bar in the Seaport District, with the restaurant moving into a space in Seaport Square. An earlier Boston Uncovered article also mentioned this, saying that the new location will debut sometime this year.

The website for Lanner Noodles & Bar can be found at https://www.lannernoodles.com/

Xi'an Famous Foods Opens Ghost Kitchen in Roxbury

A number of year ago, it was reported that an award-winning group of Chinese restaurants based in New York City known in part for their hand-pulled noodles might be looking to expand to Boston, and now we have learned that it has finally happened, though only as a takeout/delivery spot.

According to a source (Gary Goldblatt), Xi'an Famous Foods is now open in Roxbury as a ghost kitchen, with the business operating out of a shared facility on Shirley Street a few blocks west of Massachusetts Avenue and South Bay, and around the corner from Bully Boy Distillers. We have been told that this is a company-owned location (not a franchise) and that according to the business, "the taste will be just like the stores in NYC."

In addition to hand-pulled noodles, Xi'an Famous Foods--which has received accolades from such publications as Bon Appetit, Forbes, the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, and Time Out--also offers dumplings and burgers on flatbread buns.

The address for the Xi'an Famous Foods ghost kitchen is 94 Shirley Street, Roxbury, MA, 02119. The website for the business is at https://www.xianfoods.com/

Update: Noodles King at the Longwood Galleria in Boston Has Closed; Menu Items Apparently Still Available at Dragon Bowl

[Ed note: This article was updated on August 2 to reflect that the dining spot's menu continues to be available at another place within the food court.]

A noodle spot that was geared in part toward medical workers and families of patients has shut down, though it looks like their food items live on at a neighboring stall.

According to a poster within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page, Noodles King at the Longwood Galleria in Boston's Longwood medical area is no longer in business, though we have now been told by a source that the menu continues to be offered at Dragon Bowl, which has an ownership connection to the place. Noodles King first opened at the food court in 2018, being known for its Chinese hand-pulled biang biang noodles.

The Longwood Galleria food court is located at the intersection of Longwood Avenue and Brookline Avenue.

IFresh Noodle Is Replacing Xi'an Street Foods in Allston

A restaurant featuring an increasingly-popular noodle dish will be opening in a space where another noodle place had been.

According to a source (Erika Johnson), IFresh Noodle is planning to open in Allston in the Brighton Avenue space where Xi'an Street Foods had been since early last year. A page within the City of Boston website this, indicating that the new eatery will indeed be taking over that space and that it will apparently be open for lunch and dinner. A sign out front mentions that IFresh Noodle will be a hand-pulled noodle shop and that it will be opening soon, though no specific opening date has been given as of yet.

Hand-pulled noodles (which are also known as biang biang noodles) are typically found in central China and have been showing up in more and more restaurants in the Greater Boston area, including at such spots as Gene’s Chinese Flatbread Cafe and Xi'an Rougamo in downtown Boston (other locations of Gene's are in Woburn and Westford), Noodles King in the Longwood area of the city, Chili Square in Quincy, and Home Taste in Arlington and Watertown.

The address for IFresh Noodle (and the former Xi'an Street Foods) is 182 Brighton Avenue, Allston, MA, 02134.

Home Taste in Watertown to Open New Location in Former La Posada Space in Arlington Heights

by Marc Hurwitz

A Chinese restaurant in Watertown is expanding to Arlington, moving into the space where a Mexican dining spot had been until late last year.

According to a note from @kcbaskin of The Boston Globe and a post from Your Arlington, Home Taste is planning to open on Mass Ave. in Arlington Heights, taking over the former La Posada space. Based on the menu at the location on Mt. Auburn Street in Watertown Square (which opened back in September of 2015), expect to see hand-pulled noodles, handmade dumplings, Chinese "burgers," mala pots, spicy Szechuan dishes, and more at the upcoming restaurant. No opening date has been given as of yet for the new location of Home Taste, so keep checking back for updates.

La Posada closed its doors last December after being in business for a bit less than eight years.

The address for the upcoming Home Taste in Arlington Heights is 1312 Massachusetts Avenue, Arlington, MA, 02476. The website for the Watertown location can be found at https://www.hometastema.com/

Xi'an Street Foods Is Opening in Allston

by Marc Hurwitz

It looks like another option for hand-pulled noodles and more could be on its way to Boston, and its name is similar to a popular group of New York City spots--though the two are unrelated.

According to an article from Eater Boston (and via a licensing board page), Xi'an Street Foods is planning to open in Allston, taking over the space on Brighton Avenue where 'O' Yummy Cuisine had been. The new eatery will presumably offer Xi'an cuisine that is typically found in the city of the same name in central China, which may mean that such items as hand-pulled noodles (also known as biang biang noodles), lamb stew, flatbread sandwiches, and more could be served, though no menu has been seen as of yet.

There has been talk that the NYC-based Xi'an Famous Foods might be coming to the Boston area at some point, and Eater has indeed confirmed that founder Jason Wang is making plans to expand to the region.

Currently, hand-pulled noodles can be found at Gene's Chinese Flatbread Cafe in Boston, Woburn, and Westford.

The address for Xi'an Street Foods is 182 Brighton Avenue, Allston, MA, 02134.

[January 26, 2018 update: Eater Boston states that Xi'an Street Foods is now open in Allston, and that it is part of a chain of restaurants found in China--though as mentioned earlier, it has no connection to Xi'an Famous Foods. The article says that items such as biang biang noodles and rougamo are offered at the new spot, with the latter being a type of Chinese burger with pork, beef, or lamb placed on flatbread.]
