Cafe Noodo Opens by North Station in Boston

A brand new noodle shop has debuted in Boston.

According to an article from boston.com, Cafe Noodo is now open by North Station and TD Garden in the city's West End, moving into a space on Nashua Street by Kicco Italian Coffee and Avalon North Station. The menu for the place features hand-pulled noodles including such options as Lanzhou beef noodle soup, tomato and egg noodles, and teriyaki chicken noodles, along with such small bites as seaweed salad, lamb skewers, and five-spice crispy tofu along with boba milk tea.

Crisp by Stats Opens at Hub Hall in Boston

Late last year, it was reported that a restaurant and bar in South Boston had expanded to a new space within a Boston food hall, and now we have learned that they have now opened another concept there as well.

According to a press release, Crisp by Stats is now open at Hub Hall in the city's North Station/West End area, with the new place joining the Stats stall right next to it along with Stats Bar & Grille in Southie. Crisp by Stats offers a dozen signature pizzas, and they also plan to add such items as meatballs, wings, and shareable appetizers to the menu in the near future.

The South Boston location of Stats Bar & Grille first opened in 2010.

Bodega Canal in Boston's West End Has Closed

A Mexican restaurant in Boston that was known in part for its cocktails and entertainment has shut down, and it isn't known if the place could return.

According to a source, Bodega Canal in the city's West End area is locked up and dark, with a check on the website for the place saying that the Canal Street spot is "currently closed" and to "please check back" on the website or its Instagram page for any updates. The restaurant and bar, which was located between Haymarket and TD Garden, first opened in the fall of 2018, offering small plates, tacos, bowls, tequila drinks, and more, while also featuring live DJs and dancing.

Cusser's Roast Beef & Seafood at Hub Hall Is Closing; Time Out Location Remains in Operation

A pair of dining spots known in part for their North Shore-style roast beef sandwiches and their lobster rolls will soon be down to one.

According to an email sent to us, Cusser's Roast Beef & Seafood at Hub Hall by North Station and TD Garden is closing down at the end of business hours tomorrow, though we have been told that the location at Time Out Market Boston in the Fenway will remain open for business, and that it "has actually gotten a major menu facelift." The Hub Hall location of Cusser's debuted in 2021, a couple of years after the Time Out location opened; the original Cusser's first opened at the Mooncusser Fish House site on Stuart Street in the Back Bay in 2018, replacing Moon Bar which took back the space in 2023.

KoKo Coffee Is Opening in the Former Equal Exchange Space in Boston's North Station Area

A local pair of coffee shops will be joined by a third location that should be particularly popular with commuters.

According to a source, KoKo Coffee is going to be opening in Boston's North Station area, taking over the space on Causeway Street where the Equal Exchange co-op once had a cafe. Once it is up and running, the new location of KoKo Coffee will join others on State Street by the Boston waterfront and on L Street in South Boston, and based on those, it will likely be offering pastries and baked goods, sandwiches, bowls, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and more.

Jersey Mike's Subs Is Opening in the Former Bishop's Mediterranean Grill Space in Boston's West End

A New Jersey-based chain of sub shops is getting ready to open another location in the local area, and this will be its second within the Boston city limits--and its first in or near the downtown area.

According to a source, Jersey Mike's Subs is planning to open in the city's West End neighborhood, moving into the space on Staniford Street that had been home to Bishop's Mediterranean Grill. Once it opens, the new outlet of the chain will join another in Brighton, along with others in Bedford, Burlington, Dedham, Newton, Saugus, Stoneham, and Watertown.

The Flagrant Fowl Plans to Open in the Former Porters Bar and Grill Space in Boston's North Station Area

A new restaurant and bar may be on its way to a space near Boston's North Station, and it would replace another dining and drinking spot that closed a few months ago--and the owner of the proposed place ran a beloved bar in Downtown Crossing that recently shut down.

According to a licensing board hearing page notice, a new spot called The Flagrant Fowl is looking to open on Portland Street, moving into the space that had been home to Porters Bar and Grill until it closed in June. The manager listed is David Savoie, who was the owner of Silvertone Bar & Grill, a Bromfield Street dining and drinking spot that also closed in June, and Savoie seems to hint at this in a recent Facebook thread, mentioning his plans to open a new place "near the Gaahhhden." The hearing notice states that The Flagrant Fowl would have dining areas with seating for 66 and a bar with seating for 16, though no other details have been given; more should be known by later next week once the licensing board hears of the plans.

Porters Bar and Grill had been in business for just under 25 years while Silvertone first opened in 1997, with Savoie becoming the new owner in 2016.

A new hotel restaurant has come to Boston.

According to a press release, 155 on Portland has debuted in the city's West End, opening in the lobby area of the brand new Pennyweight Hotel Boston, Curio Collection by Hilton on Portland Street between Haymarket Square and North Station. The new dining spot is an espresso bar during the day and a cocktail bar at night, with its food menu including such options as pastries, breakfast sandwiches, warm crab dip, lobster pasta alla vodka, burgers, and more, while the space includes both indoor and outdoor dining.

Three new dining spots have come to a food hall in Boston.

According to a press release, Cini's Pasta Bar, Bati, and Adriano's are now open at Hub Hall by North Station in Boston, with Cini's being an Italian place that features arancini and which is a new outlet of Joe Spagnuolo's place by the same name on Friend Street; Bati being an Indian eatery with an ownership connection to Shanti in Dorchester and Roslindale; and Adriano's being a soul food spot run by Chef Monique (Monique Booker).

Tasty Burger Has Apparently Closed Its North Station Location

It looks like a local group of burger spots has shut down one of its locations.

According to multiple sources, Tasty Burger at North Station in Boston is no longer in business, with a check within the Tasty Burger website seeming to confirm this, as it is no longer shown within the locations page. With the apparent closing of this outlet which was located within the Avalon North Station luxury apartment tower, four Tasty Burgers remain, including in the Fenway, the Back Bay, and Cambridge's Harvard Square and Central Square.

Chilacates Is Opening in Boston's West End

A growing local group of Mexican restaurants is opening yet another new location, and this one will be its closest to downtown Boston.

According to a source, Chilacates is planning to open in the city's West End, with a photo sent indicating that it will be moving into the former Viva Burrito space on Staniford Street. Once it opens, the new outlet will join other locations in Jamaica Plain (two), the South End, Mission Hill, Roslindale, South Boston, Brighton, Brookline's Coolidge Corner, and Chestnut Hill, and it looks like one other could be coming to East Cambridge as well.

Scores Is Opening in the Former Fours Space in Boston This Spring

A couple of years ago, it was reported that a new dining and drinking spot planned to take over the space where one of the city's most popular watering holes had been, and now we have learned that it is finally about ready to debut.

According to an article from boston.com, Scores is hoping to open in the former Fours space in the North Station/West End area of Boston in late April, with the Canal Street place offering "game-day favorites with an elevated approach." The article mentions that Humberto Gallardo (Grill 23 & Bar, Abe & Louie's) is the executive chef and that the menu will include such options as tater tot poutine, smash burgers, pork belly bao buns, flatbreads, and more.

The Boston location of The Fours first opened in 1976 and was a popular spot for sports fans until it closed in 2020, featuring meals named after local sports figures. Two other locations remain in operation in Quincy and Norwell.

Kicco Italian Coffee Is Opening by North Station in Boston

An Italian cafe that should be popular with commuters is on its way to Boston.

According to an article from Eater Boston, Kicco Italian Coffee is planning to open next to North Station, with owner Vittorio Wurzburger saying that it will be "the first real Neapolitan coffee shop in Boston....Roughly 90 percent of the food products are made in Italy and shipped here daily. There's nothing in Boston like this." The new spot, which opens at the end of the month, is expected to offer such options as espresso, Italian cakes and pastries, pizza, and sandwiches.

Boston Döner Opens in the West End

A new dining spot that offers Turkish fare has come to a section of Boston that is undergoing major development.

According to a poster within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page, Boston Döner is now open in the city's West End, taking over the space on Causeway Street that had been home to Rodey's Pizzeria and Pasta. The menu for the eatery includes such items as falafel, red lentil soup, feta cheese rolls, calf's liver, a kofte kebab wrap, a chicken gyro sub, rice pudding, and Turkish coffee.

Halftime Pizza in Boston's North Station Area Is Morphing into Halftime King of Pizza/J. Pace Express

[Ed note: This article was updated on September 17 to reflect new information given.]

A longtime pizza spot across from North Station in Boston appears to be joining forces with a familiar name. 

According to a source (Geoff Wong), a "coming soon" sign is now up for Halftime King of Pizza/J. Pace Express in the storefront on Causeway Street that has been home to Halftime Pizza. A page within the opengovus.com site seems to confirm this, showing that "Halftime King of Pizza...is a business registered with City of Boston, City Clerk," with the email given on the page being for J. Pace and Son, and an Instagram page for the place hints that this is a collaboration between the two businesses, saying that they are "Bringing The Hub on Causeway two celebrated brands J.Pace Express @ Halftime King of Pizza." (A recent tweet from Halftime Pizza confirms this, saying that "Everything is remaining the same! We just have a new look inside, along with J.Pace and Son to help compliment our Pizza.") Currently, locations of J. Pace and Son--which is known for its Italian food, subs, and provisions--can be found in the West End, the Seaport District, and Saugus.

Halftime Pizza has been around for approximately 40 years, offering pizza, pasta dishes, subs, salads, and more to commuters, sports/music fans attending events at TD Garden, nearby office workers, and locals.

Hub Hall Opens at The Hub on Causeway in Boston's North Station Area

A long-awaited food hall has finally opened its doors.

According to an Instagram post, Hub Hall is up and running at The Hub on Causeway development in the North Station area of Boston as of today, saying "we have arrived" in the post. The food hall will ultimately be home to a total of 18 food and drink spots, including Sauce Burgers, Sullivan's, Naco Taco, MIDA Apizza, The Smoke Shop BBQ, ReelHouse Oysters, GreCo, Monica's Mercato, Mike's Pastry, Cusser's Roast Beef and Seafood, Momosan Ramen, The Draft by Banners, and more, though it isn't yet known how many of the places actually opened today.

Plans for Hub Hall were first announced in the summer of 2019, with its opening being delayed by the pandemic.

New Restaurants/Bars Being Planned for the Two BeerWorks Spaces in Boston

Last month it was reported that a local group of breweries and brewpubs had shut down operations, and now we have learned that the two locations within the city of Boston may be replaced by two new dining and drinking spots.

According to a licensing board hearing page within the city's website, the location of BeerWorks on Canal Street near North Station is slated to be replaced by an as-of-yet unnamed restaurant, while the location of BeerWorks on Brookline Avenue in the Fenway might be replaced by a new place called Vesper Bar. It appears that the listed managers of each (Martin Zieff for the former and Panos Demeter for the latter) are involved in real estate and/or development in the local area, though it isn't known if there is any connection between the two proposed spots; as soon as we find out more, we will post an update here.

Scores May Be Taking Over The Fours Space in Boston's North Station Area

A new restaurant and bar appears to be in the works for the area around North Station and TD Garden in Boston, and it could be taking over the space where one of the city's most popular watering holes had been until announcing its closure last summer.

According to a licensing board hearing page within the city's website, Scores is looking to open in the space on Canal Street that had been home to The Fours, with the manager listed for the proposed place being Fred Starikov while the parent company is Boston Garden Fours LLC; a page within the OpenCorporates site for that company shows that in addition to Starikov, Dana Rosenblatt, Julius Sokol, and Stephen Whalen are also involved, which indicates a connection to Greater Boston Bar Co., an investment group that owns such spots as the Beacon Hill Pub and The Tam. Very little is known about Scores at this point in time, so stay tuned for updates as they come in.

The Boston location of The Fours first opened in 1976 and became a very popular spot for sports fans, featuring meals named after local sports figures including Bobby Orr, Larry Bird, Doug Flutie, Ray Bourque, Carl Yastrzemski, and others. Two other locations remain in operation in Quincy and Norwell.

Update: West End Johnnie's and Fenway Johnnie's Reopen After Being Closed for Several Months

[Ed note: This article was updated on April 15, 2021 and June 11, 2021 to reflect the fact that both spots have opened back up.]

A pair of dining and drinking spots in Boston that are popular with sports fans are getting ready to close for the time being.

According to a source, both West End Johnnie's and Fenway Johnnie's are to be going into hibernation, with an Instagram page from the two places saying that "After careful consideration & debate, we have chosen to temporarily close both West End Johnnie's and Fenway Johnnie's after brunch Sunday 12/13." The note goes on to mention safety concerns for workers and patrons, legislative rollbacks, and the "growing vacuum of business" in the downtown section of the city as reasons for the closures. No reopening date has been given as of yet for either spot, with the post saying to stay tuned for a reopening announcement at some point.

The Harp by North Station in Boston Is Reopening March 25

A longtime Boston bar that is particularly popular with sports fans is opening back up after being shuttered for more than a year.

According to a press release, The Harp on Causeway Street across from North Station and TD Garden plans to reopen tomorrow (Thursday, March 25), though that date is dependent upon whether the Bruins game actually takes place that night. It looks like for at least the time being, the bar will be open for home game watches and on weekends, and its updated menu will include such options as flatbread pizza, wings, buffalo chicken dip, beer towers, and pitchers of cocktails. When The Harp reopens, it will have indoor dining only at first, with patio seating coming soon.

The Harp, which has been in operation for nearly 30 years, has been closed since last March due to the coronavirus outbreak.
