Del's Lemonade Is Opening in Arlington

A legendary frozen lemonade company is bringing a second location to the Greater Boston area--and its closest shop to Boston itself.

According to a source, Del's Lemonade is looking to open a new outlet in Arlington, with Wicked Local/Arlington Advocate indicating what our source told us, that the shop would come to a space on Mass. Ave. in Brattle Square. The article mentions that the outlet will be a walkup window where customers can order Del's frozen lemonade along with such items as hot dogs, pretzels, popcorn, ice cream, and "fair-style food and sweets." It appears that the shop could be having its grand opening in May, though the original plan had been to open in April.

Del's, which was founded in 1948 in Cranston, RI, can mostly be found in Rhode Island and Southeast Massachusetts, with the only shop currently in the Greater Boston area being in Cohasset.

[July 29 update: A post from Your Arlington from earlier this month mentions that Del's had been hoping to open its Arlington location in early July, but that they had been waiting on window hinges before they can open--and a recent check on the space indicates that they are still not open as of yet.]

[August 24 update: According to a poster within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page, Del's Lemonade is now open in Arlington.]

The Bittersweet Shoppe Is Opening in Boston's Back Bay

A new food place is coming to one of Boston's busiest streets, and its name may be familiar to those who frequent farmers markets and festivals.

According to a licensing board hearing page within the city's website, The Bittersweet Shoppe is planning to open on Newbury Street in the Back Bay, with the notice mentioning that the restaurant space would include a lower garden level along with a lower patio and the manager being Tracy Casavant. A post on the designcrowd.com site indicates that Casavant is the owner of Bittersweet Homestead, a business known in part for its fresh-squeezed lemonade along with such items as sweet and salty kettle corn and maple vanilla walnuts, and the post indicates that she may be calling the brick-and-mortar "The Bittersweet Shoppe & Soda Fountain."

Bittersweet Homestead, which was formed in 2015, has been set up at such spots as City Hall Plaza in downtown Boston and the Wachusett Mountain Ski Resort. Its Facebook page can be found at https://www.facebook.com/bittersweethomestead/

Narragansett Del's Shandy Beer Is Now Available

A brewery and a frozen lemonade company that are both based in Rhode Island have teamed up to create a brand new beer that is now available in stores throughout the region.

Rhode Island Monthly is reporting that the Narragansett Brewing Company has released Del's Shandy, which is a beer that has the familiar taste of Del's frozen lemonade, a slush drink that is wildly popular in Rhode Island and parts of Massachusetts. The article says that the beer, which comes in six-packs of 16-ounce cans, is being rolled out this week in stores across Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New York, with the drink being found "pretty much everywhere" in these states by the end of the week if all goes as planned.

Narragansett and Del's both started out in Cranston, though the Narragansett headquarters are now located in Providence. The website for Narragansett can be found at http://narragansettbeer.com/ while the site for Del's is at https://dels.com/
