Muffin House Cafe to Open in Canton

A local group of bakery-cafes with locations south and west of Boston will be opening a new location south of the city.

According to an article from MassLive, Muffin House Cafe is planning to open in Canton, moving into a space in the Cobb Corner Shopping Center on Washington Street. Based on other locations in Westwood, Natick, Walpole, Medway, Hopkinton, and Mendon, expect to see a variety of muffins along with breakfast and lunch sandwiches, bagels, toasts, pastries, coffee, and more.

It appears that the new location of Muffin House Cafe could open in April, though an exact opening date has not been given as of yet.

Bob's Muffins Coming to Stoughton Bakery & Cafe in Stoughton

Last month, it was reported that a beloved South Shore breakfast spot that featured muffins was closing down. Now we have learned that the business will be reborn in some form a few towns to the west.

According to a couple of sources, the Facebook page for the now-closed Bob's Muffin Shop in South Weymouth announced that their muffins would be returning to another space, with a check on the post showing that it says "COMING SOON  to Stoughton bakery BOB'S MUFFINS !!!!" It is not yet known what the exact setup will be like at Stoughton Bakery & Cafe (which is known in part for its Portguese baked goods); as soon as we find out more, we will post an update here.

Bob's Muffin Shop shut down around the end of November after being in business since 1956.

Bob's Muffin Shop in South Weymouth Is Closing

A popular breakfast spot on the South Shore is getting ready to shut down.

According to a source, Bob's Muffin Shop in South Weymouth is closing for good, with a Facebook post from the Union Street place saying the following:

Bob's Muffin Shop will be PERMANENTLY CLOSE on or about 11/30/2021 due to circumstances out of our control. We would like to thank our families, employees and our long time loyal customers for the past 14 years, we have owned it. Bob's has been a staple in this community since 1956 we will truly miss you all. Thank you Vinnie, Marie & Staff PLEASE NOTE: this closure is due to the leasing co/landlord not letting us sell the business, We wanted Bob's to continue to be a part of this community sad day for all

In addition to its muffins, Bob's Muffin Shop has also been known in part for its breakfast sandwiches and cinnamon toast.

[November 30 update: A new Facebook post from the place indicates that Bob's Muffin Shop is now closed.]

The Savage Wiener Debuts within Sandwich Works in Newton Centre

A pop-up dining spot with an interesting name has come to a cafe in the western suburbs of Boston.

Eater Boston mentions that The Savage Wiener has set up shop within Sandwich Works in Newton Center, with the business launching today from 5:30 to 7:30 at the Beacon Street eatery. The article says that Savage Wiener owner Jim Lowenstern will be offering gourmet hot dogs as well as muffin tops, and while the pop-up will be located inside Sandwich Works "indefinitely," there is a chance that The Savage Wiener could turn into a standalone spot at some point. (The hot dogs can also be ordered by mail.)

Jordan Marsh's Blueberry Muffins (and Jordan Marsh) May Return

It looks like a legendary local treat may be returning--along with the brand that was behind them.

The Boston Herald is reporting that the Jordan Marsh brand name has been transferred from Macy's to California-based company Strategic Marks in a settlement that also allowed Macy's to retain the Filene's brand name. According to the article, Strategic Marks CEO Ellia Kassoff says that the company plans to bring Jordan Marsh back as an online store at first, with brick-and-mortar stores coming a few years later, while he also says that they are looking to bring back the famed Jordan Marsh blueberry muffins; Kassoff mentions in the article that the company has been in talks with John Pupek, the famed Jordan Marsh baker who made the classic muffins by hand for many years.

Jordan Marsh started out in Boston in 1841 and eventually became a regional chain of department stores, with the last of its shops disappearing from the landscape in 1996 when they were converted to Macy's outlets. The Jordan Marsh muffins continued to be produced by Pupek for his Brockton bakery--which was called Jordan Marsh Muffin Co.--until it closed in 2004, according to an article in boston.com.
