Main Street Pasta & Wine Plans to Open in Charlestown

A food and wine shop may be on its way to Charlestown, and a couple of people from a landmark restaurant that is now closed appear to be involved.

According to a licensing board hearing page within the City of Boston website, Main Street Pasta & Wine is looking to open on Main Street, with the address indicating that it would take over the Charlestown Cleaners space on the corner of Main and Henley. The notice mentions that the proposed spot is seeking a Retail Package Store Malt & Wine License and that the shop would apparently include an area where fresh pasta is made. 

The manager listed for Main Street Pasta & Wine is Matthew Delisle, who is an alum of L'Espalier while an OpenCorporates page for the business lists Peter McGough, who also comes from the high-end Back Bay restaurant which closed down at the end of 2018.

La Dolda Pasta Shop Is Opening in Lexington

Back in 2017, we mentioned that a pasta shop in Texas had closed down and was planning to move to the Greater Boston area. Now we have learned where it will be opening.

According to a poster within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page, La Dolda is opening in Lexington Center, with a check on the website for the business indicating that it will be moving into the space on Mass. Ave. where Great Harvest Bread Co. had been until 2016, when the bakery moved to East Lexington. Based its website, La Dolda--which had been located in Austin--will offer a variety of gourmet pasta items along with salads.

[April 29, 2020 update: According to a source (Jeff Kwan), La Dolda is now open in Lexington, with a Facebook post from the place indicating that its production facility is actually in Bedford while its retail store resides in Lexington.]

Monica's Pasta Shop Has Opened in Boston's North End

A new retail shop featuring pasta and more has come to the North End of Boston.

According to an article from northendwaterfront.com, Monica's Pasta Shop is now open on Richmond Street, with the store being next to Vinoteca di Monica between Hanover Street and North Street. The post mentions that the new shop offers fresh pasta along with meats, cheeses, breads, prepared foods, and various Italian products.

The family behind Monica's Pasta Shop and Vinoteca di Monica also runs Trattoria di Monica on Prince Street and Monica's Mercato & Salumeria on Salem Street.

La Dolda Pasta Shop in Austin Plans to Move to Boston

A pasta shop in Texas has shut its doors, and it is planning to reopen in the local area.

Eater Boston is reporting (via Eater Austin) that La Dolda in Austin, TX, shut down this past Saturday, with owner Matteo Gallizio saying that he is looking to move the business to a location somewhere in Boston. Gallizio told Eater that "Texas is full of barbecue and tacos, and it's been difficult trying to find a space between that....We want to be in a city with more Italian tradition. Unfortunately, it's just not part of the social tissue here" It appears that the business would initially be a wholesaler when it moves to Boston (possibly this winter, but by the summer of 2018 at the latest), but that a retail shop and/or a small pasta bar could eventually open up as well.

La Dolda has been known in part for its fresh-made dried pasta and sauces, along with retail items such as olive oil, flour, butter, and salt.

Owners of Ciao! Pizza & Pasta in Chelsea to Open Ciao! Market, Winnisimmet Lounge

The people behind a restaurant that gets high marks for its pizza will be opening a couple of new businesses nearby.

Boston Magazine is reporting that Edson Coimbra and Marvin Posada of Ciao! Pizza & Pasta in Chelsea are planning to open Ciao! Market and the Winnisimmet Lounge, with the former being on Broadway and the latter being on Winnisimmet Street--and both of which will be within walking distance of Ciao!, which is located on Williams Street. The article says that the market will have a space for pasta production and will also have an espresso counter along with a display case for gelato, pastries, and pasta, while the lounge will be a casual spot that offers Italian small plates as well as beer, wine, and cocktails. If all goes as planned, Ciao! Market should open this summer while the Winnisimmet Lounge might not be open for 18 months or so.

Ciao! Pizza & Pasta first opened in the fall of 2015, offering wood-fired pizza, freshly-made pasta dishes, panini, salads, and desserts. The pizza at Ciao! has been a big hit among media people and diners alike, with one Boston Globe writer saying of the pizza, "it's with some trepidation that I'd like to argue I've found the best Neapolitan pie in the Boston area. Maybe anywhere outside of Italy."

The address for Ciao! Market will be 212 Broadway while the address for the Winnisimmet Lounge will be 73 Winnisimmet Street.

Dave's Fresh Pasta to Open Second Location by Tufts University in Medford

A popular food store in Somerville that features pasta is going to be opening a second spot, and this one should be a big hit with college students.

The Medford Transcript is reporting that Dave's Fresh Pasta in Davis Square is planning to open a new location by Tufts University in Medford, with the Boston Avenue shop actually being connected to Tufts University's new Collaborative Learning and Innovation Complex. The article says that the upcoming store will include a restaurant with a tentative capacity of 60 along with a small market, and it will also have "a significant takeout aspect," much as the original shop has (it may serve beer and wine as well). If all goes as planned, the new location of Dave's Fresh Pasta could be opening in eight to twelve months.

The original Dave's Fresh Pasta first opened on Holland Street approximately 15 years ago.

DePasquale's Homemade Pasta Shoppe in Boston's North End to Move, Become Bricco Salumeria and Pasta Shoppe

A pasta shop in the North End of Boston is going to be moving--and undergoing a name change.

NorthEndWaterfront.com is reporting that DePasquale's Homemade Pasta Shoppe on Cross Street is moving to Hanover Street and will become Bricco Salumeria and Pasta Shoppe, with the store opening next to Bricco Panetteria. (DePasquale Ventures, which is headed up by Frank DePasquale, runs the pasta shop as well as Bricco and Bricco Panetteria, Bliss, Mare, Quattro, Trattoria Il Panino, and Umbria Prime.) The article says that once it opens (no date has been given) the newly-named shop will feature an expanded product lineup.
