According to a message sent from Adam Castiglioni of the Boston Hospitality and Tourism Industry Blog, Common Vines and Taste Wine Bar on Summer Street will become Georgie's Wine Shop and Bar, with the website for the upcoming place saying that "We're so excited to marry these two special concepts into one more complete offering under one roof! Main Street Pasta & Wine Plans to Open in Charlestown

A food and wine shop may be on its way to Charlestown, and a couple of people from a landmark restaurant that is now closed appear to be involved.

According to a licensing board hearing page within the City of Boston website, Main Street Pasta & Wine is looking to open on Main Street, with the address indicating that it would take over the Charlestown Cleaners space on the corner of Main and Henley. The notice mentions that the proposed spot is seeking a Retail Package Store Malt & Wine License and that the shop would apparently include an area where fresh pasta is made.

The manager listed for Main Street Pasta & Wine is Matthew Delisle, who is an alum of L'Espalier while an OpenCorporates page for the business lists Peter McGough, who also comes from the high-end Back Bay restaurant which closed down at the end of 2018.

The address for the proposed Main Street Pasta & Wine is 40 Main Street, Charlestown, MA, 02129.

Ron Suhanosky to Open Il Maestro in Boston's Beacon Hill, Turn Chef Ronsky's in Chestnut Hill into Wine Shop

A James Beard Award winner has some big plans in the works, including the opening of an Italian restaurant in one of Boston's most charming neighborhoods while his existing Italian restaurant west of the city will become a wine shop.

According to an article in Boston Magazine, Ron Suhanosky is planning to open Il Maestro in Beacon Hill, taking over the space on Mount Vernon Street where the Persian dining spot Lala Rokh has been until closing in 2018. In addition, Suhanosky will be replacing Chef Ronsky's at The Street in Chestnut Hill with Ronsky's Cantina, a wine store that will also be used for private dinners. The article mentions that Il Maestro, which will be much larger than the tiny Chef Ronsky's, will have a split menu that includes "classic" and "artisinal" dishes, while its wine offerings will also be split between Italian options and offerings from other areas such as France and Portugal. The space itself will be divided into sections that include a bar area in the front, a more formal dining room, and a "family room" in the back. If all goes as planned, Il Maestro will open in September, while Chef Ronsky's will close on April 11.

Ron Suhanosky had been one of the founders of Sfoglia, a high-end Italian restaurant on Nantucket (now closed) and in New York's Upper West Side, and he received a James Beard Award in 2010 for his cookbook Pasta Sfoglia.

The address for Il Maestro will be 97 Mt Vernon Street, Boston, MA, 02108.

Wine Riot Store in Boston's South End May Be Replaced by Wine Gallery

A wine events business that has a retail shop in the South End of Boston may see its retail space taken over by another group of wine shops.

According to a Twitter post from @DGoodison, Wine Riot on Tremont Street is looking to transfer its license to Wine Gallery, with a message sent confirming that the shop would be moving into the same address. It appears that the Wine Riot shop--which is run by Second Glass--may already be closed according to another source, though this has not been confirmed as of yet. It is not known what may happen to Second Glass's wine events business at this point in time; as soon as we find out more, we will post an update here.

Wine Gallery has four locations in the Boston area--in Downtown Crossing, Kenmore Square, Brookline, and Lexington.

The address for Wine Riot (and the proposed Wine Gallery) in the South End is 519 Tremont Street, Boston, MA, 02116.

[May 12 update: A licensing board hearing page has confirmed the above, showing that Wine Riot has petitioned to transfer the licensed business to Wine Gallery, with the hearing taking place on May 17.]

Gordon's Fine Wines and Liquors Is Taking Over the Wine Cellar Space in Boston's Downtown Crossing

It looks like a popular group of liquor stores located in the suburbs of Boston will be bringing a new one to the heart of the city.

According to a legal notice sent to us by a source, Gordon's Fine Wines and Liquors is looking to open in Downtown Crossing, taking over the site on Temple Place where the Wine Cellar is located. Little else is currently known about the proposed transfer of businesses other than the fact that the new shop is looking to be open until 11:00 PM.

Gordon's Fine Wines and Liquors, which says on its Twitter page that it is "the leading purveyor of fine wines, spirits and beer in our New England stores and online," has locations in Waltham, Watertown, and Newtonville.

The address for the Wine Cellar (and the new location of Gordon's) is 39 Temple Place, Boston, MA, 02111.

Thanks to @DGoodison for initially bringing this to our attention.

[October 26 update: Eater Boston states that Gordon's has gotten the green light to open in Downtown Crossing, and that it will include "a mini version" of Moody's in Waltham within the store, with the deli counter offering such items as cheeses, charcuterie, pre-made sandwiches to go, and, eventually, sandwiches that are made to order along with sliced meats, with products being under the New England Charcuterie label. If all goes as planned, expect the new location of Gordon's (and Moody's) to open sometime in the early winter.]

[December 30 update: A new article from Eater Boston notes that Gordon's (and the Moody's deli counter) has softly opened in the former Wine Cellar space.]

The Urban Grape Is Opening in Boston's South End

It looks like a popular wine store in Chestnut Hill is opening in the South End of Boston at some point in the future.

The BosGuy blog is reporting that The Urban Grape is planning to open on Columbus Avenue, moving into retail space in the building where the Bryant boutique condos are located (between Clarendon Street and Dartmouth Street). The blog entry mentions that this is still in the early stages, as the wine shop needs to get approval from both the licensing board and the neighborhood itself, but it does appear that The Urban Grape could be coming to this spot if all goes as planned..

[April 27 update: Adam's Hospitality & Tourism Industry Blog states that The Urban Grape has been granted a license to operate on Columbus Avenue. It looks like the wine store will be opening sometime after Labor Day.]

[September 5 update: Eater Boston reports that The Urban Grape in the South End is opening on Thursday, September 20.]

[September 20 update: According to their Facebook page, the new Urban Grape in the South End is not quite ready to open, as it is "waiting for one last signature." As soon as it officially opens, we will post another update here.]

[September 28 update: A new post on their Facebook page indicates that the Urban Grape will be opening its doors in the South End today at 5:00 PM.]

The Urban Grape first opened on Boylston Street in Chestnut Hill in the spring of 2010.

The address for this new wine store in the South End is: The Urban Grape, 303 Columbus Avenue, Boston, MA, 02116.
