A James Beard Award winner has some big plans in the works, including the opening of an Italian restaurant in one of Boston's most charming neighborhoods while his existing Italian restaurant west of the city will become a wine shop.
According to an article in Boston Magazine, Ron Suhanosky is planning to open Il Maestro in Beacon Hill, taking over the space on Mount Vernon Street where the Persian dining spot Lala Rokh has been until closing in 2018. In addition, Suhanosky will be replacing Chef Ronsky's at The Street in Chestnut Hill with Ronsky's Cantina, a wine store that will also be used for private dinners. The article mentions that Il Maestro, which will be much larger than the tiny Chef Ronsky's, will have a split menu that includes "classic" and "artisinal" dishes, while its wine offerings will also be split between Italian options and offerings from other areas such as France and Portugal. The space itself will be divided into sections that include a bar area in the front, a more formal dining room, and a "family room" in the back. If all goes as planned, Il Maestro will open in September, while Chef Ronsky's will close on April 11.
Ron Suhanosky had been one of the founders of Sfoglia, a high-end Italian restaurant on Nantucket (now closed) and in New York's Upper West Side, and he received a James Beard Award in 2010 for his cookbook Pasta Sfoglia.
The address for Il Maestro will be 97 Mt Vernon Street, Boston, MA, 02108.
