Gracie's Ice Cream in Somerville's Union Square Is Expanding to Cambridge's Kendall Square; Will Be Called Earnest Drinks/Gracie's

An offbeat ice cream shop in Somerville is going to be joined by a second shop, as a new outlet is opening in Cambridge.

According to a license commission agenda page within the city's website, Gracie's Ice Cream has applied for a common victualler all alcohol beverages license to operate on Binney Street in Kendall Square, with owner Aaron Cohen of the original Gracie's in Union Square being the listed manager. The notice mentions that the new shop could have seating for 20 inside and another 9 outdoors, and that alcohol sales would start after 12:00 PM on weekdays and after 11:00 AM on weekends; it is not yet known how alcohol will play a role in the ice cream shop, so as soon as we find out more, we will post an update here. (A Twitter post from @BostonTweet also shows a sticky note at the site of the proposed ice cream shop.)

The original Gracie's Ice Cream first opened in Union Square in November of 2014, with the shop serving house-made ice cream that includes both regular flavors and rotating flavors that are always changing.

The address for the proposed location of Gracie's in Kendall Square is 399 Binney Street, Cambridge, MA, 02141. The website for the Somerville location can be found at https://icecreamgracies.com/

[August 25 update: Eater Boston mentions that the new Gracie's in Kendall Square will also be home to Earnest Drinks, an all-day cafe and bar that will offer spiked milkshakes, beer, wine, cocktails, and espresso. There is no opening date as of yet for the new Earnest Drinks/Gracie's, so keep checking back for updates as they come in.]

[September 29 update: A post from Aaron Cohen indicates that Earnest Drinks/Gracie's had a soft opening preview over the weekend, with its grand opening being slated for Wednesday, September 30. (Its website is at http://orderearnest.com/)]
