Tree House Brewing Company May Be Opening a Brewery, Distillery, and Tasting Room at the Prudential Center in Boston

A couple of months ago, it was reported that one of the best-known breweries in New England had opened a retail shop in Boston, and now we have learned that this may have just been the opening act of what appears to be some big plans.

According to a licensing board hearing page within the city's website, Tree House Brewing Company is seeking licenses to operate a brewery, tasting room, and distillery at the Prudential Center in the Back Bay, with the 35,000-square-foot space including a brewing area, brewhouse, distilled spirits plant, consumption areas, and a retails sales section on the first floor and consumption areas with seating for approximately 121 people on the second floor, and the plans include a patio as well. This proposal comes on the heels of Tree House opening a retail shop at the Pru back in September, and the company has also had a pop-up beer garden in the South Garden.

Baramor in Newton Centre Is Debuting a Pop-Up Beer Garden; Will Include Distillery Cocktail Takeovers

A neighborhood restaurant and bar in the western suburbs is setting up a temporary beer garden which should also be of interest to lovers of spirits and mixed drinks as well.

According to a press release, Baramor in Newton Centre is launching an outdoor beer garden starting Thursday, June 3, with the rotating pop-up taking place on Thursdays from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM throughout the summer. The first pop-up on June 3 features Roslindale's Distraction Brewing while Exhibit A in Framingham will be onsite on June 10 and True North in Ipswich will be there on June 17. In addition, distillery cocktail takeovers will take place as well, though no names have been mentioned as of yet.

Baramor first opened in the spring of 2019, taking over the space that had been home to Terry O'Reilly's Pub.

Bauer Wine & Spirits in Boston's Back Bay Has Been Sold

It looks like a longtime liquor store in one of the busiest parts of Boston has been sold.

According to a source, Bauer Wine & Spirits in the Back Bay was recently sold to an as-of-yet unknown buyer, with a screenshot sent to us confirming this. The Newbury Street shop has actually been up for sale for awhile now, with a post from J Barrett & Company indicating that it first went on the market last October, having an asking price at the time of $1.7 million. It is not yet known what changes might be coming to the liquor store, nor is it known whether its name will remain, so keep checking back for updates.

Bauer Wine & Spirits has been in business for more than 50 years, with the shop offering a variety of beer, wine, and spirits, including both high-end and lower-priced options.

Liquor Stores, Breweries Allowed to Remain Open in Massachusetts

Yesterday we reported that Governor Charlie Baker is ordering all non-essential businesses to shut down at noon today in response to the Coronavirus crisis. We have now learned however, that not only are liquor stores allowed to stay open, but breweries are also able to remain in operation as well.

As mentioned in an earlier article, liquor stores are considered an essential business in the state and are given the option to remain open, and based on a few sources--and checks on social media pages--breweries are also apparently considered essential businesses and can continue to sell beer via takeout, curbside pickup, and/or delivery. Because this continues to be a fluid situation, it is best to check the websites and social media pages of both the liquor stores and the breweries to find out their exact status, as it is very likely that not all of them remain open.
