A group of dining spots featuring a couple of increasingly-trendy food items is opening another Boston-area location, with this one coming to a section of the city known for its medical facilities.
According to a licensing board hearing page within the City of Boston website, Pokeworks is planning to open in the Longwood section of Boston, moving into a space on Brookline Avenue. Based on its other locations, the proposed eatery would likely feature poke (a Hawaiian raw fish salad) as well as sushi burritos, and it would join existing locations in Somerville's Davis Square and Cambridge's Harvard Square, along with an outlet that will be opening at Arsenal Yards in Watertown.

Yoki Express Is Opening in the Former Bruegger's Bagels Space in Cambridge's Porter Square

It looks like a fast-casual spot by the Boston waterfront that features a couple of trendy food items is expanding to Cambridge.
According to a source, Yoki Express is planning to open in the old Bruegger's Bagels space in Porter Square, with a public hearing notice posted in a window of the Mass. Ave. storefront indicating that the eatery seeks to "continue the operation of a fast order food restaurant" within the space. If approved by the city and it does open, the new Yoki Express may feature poke bowls and sushi burritos, based on the menu at the Seaport District location. (Yoki Express is also connected to Yoki, a Japanese restaurant and bar in Medford.)
Bruegger's Bagels closed its Porter Square location late last summer, shortly after a Kenmore Square location of the chain shut its doors.

[July 12 update: Yoki Express could be one step closer to opening in Cambridge by next week, as a license commission hearing agenda page within the city's website indicates that a meeting regarding its request for a common victualler license is scheduled for Wednesday, July 17.]

Poke Station and Kitchen Opens by Northeastern University in Boston

A new restaurant that focuses on a couple of hot dining trends has come to Boston, and this one should be popular with college students.
According to an article from Eater Boston, Poke Station and Kitchen is now open by Northeastern University, with the Huntington Avenue dining spot featuring poke (which is a Hawaiian raw fish salad) and sushi burritos, while also offering such items as Korean fried chicken, dumplings, pork buns, and more. Poke and sushi burritos have become more and more popular over the past couple of years, with such places as Pokeworks in Somerville's Davis Square, Poke City and Manoa in Cambridge, Yoki Express in Boston's Seaport District, Love Art Sushi in the Back Bay/Fenway area, Poke Garden in Brookline, and others coming to the area.
Eater says that Poke Station and Kitchen is open for lunch and dinner seven days a week.

New Sushi, Inc. Is Opening in Allston

A Beacon Hill restaurant that taps into two increasingly-popular food trends will soon be joined by another location in Allston.
Eater Boston has confirmed what a source (Geoff Wong) told us earlier this month, that New Sushi, Inc. is planning to open on Brighton Avenue in the former Mixx Frozen Yogurt shop space. Based on the location of the original New Sushi on Cambridge Street, expect to see both sushi burritos and poke bowls, the latter of which is a Hawaiian raw fish salad.
According to Eater, the person behind New Sushi is Henderson Li, who is also behind Hoshi-ya in Brighton and Nijiya in Medford.

Pokeworks Is Opening in Cambridge's Harvard Square
A group of dining spots with one location in Somerville is expanding to Cambridge, and it will feature a couple of increasingly-trendy food items.
Eater Boston is reporting that Pokeworks is looking to open in Harvard Square, joining another shop on Elm Street in Davis Square, along with others in four states--California, New York, Washington, and Virginia--and more on the way to such states as Illinois, Georgia, and New Jersey. The chain of eateries offers a Hawaiian raw fish salad known as "poke" and it also serves "pokirritos," which are a type of sushi burrito. Both items have increased in popularity in and around Boston of late, with Manoa and OGinger in Somerville, Poke City in Cambridge, Yoki Express in Boston's Seaport District, Love Art Sushi in the Fenway/Back Bay area, and New Sushi in Beacon Hill serving one or both dishes.

Mexicali Sushi Bar Plans to Open in East Boston
A new restaurant may be on its way to East Boston, and if its name is any indication, it looks like it could be a fusion spot.
According to a Boston Licensing Board hearing page, Mexicali Sushi Bar is looking to open on Sumner Street in Maverick Square, with the hearing notice stating that the proposed eatery would have two seating areas and possible opening hours of 9:00 AM to 2:00 AM, with the manager being Roberto Trujillo. No other information has been given on the spot as of yet, but it is possible that sushi burritos could be at least one of the offerings at the restaurant based on its name. (Sushi burritos are an increasingly hot trend in the area and can currently be found at such places as Yoki Express in Boston's Seaport District, Love Art Sushi near where the Back Bay and the Fenway meet, OGinger and Pokeworks in Somerville's Davis Square, and Poke City near Cambridge's Porter Square.)

Yoki Express Is Opening in Boston's Seaport District
A brand new restaurant is on its way to the Boston waterfront, and it has a connection to a Medford dining spot while also tapping into a couple of hot trends.
The Tables section of The Boston Globe states that Yoki Express is planning to open in the Seaport District in early March, confirming what we had said earlier in an article about Shake Shack, that the people behind Yoki in Medford would be opening at 101 Seaport, The Globe mentions, however, that this location will be focusing on poke bowls and sushi burritos, both of which have become popular of late in the Boston area.
The original location of Yoki, which is located at Station Landing, offers, sushi, ramen, udon and soba noodles, teriyaki, and more.

Update: New Sushi, Inc. Is Opening in Boston's Beacon Hill

A new restaurant is on its way to the Beacon Hill section of Boston, and based on its name, it appears to be part of a hot new trend in the local area.
According to a licensing board page within the City of Boston website, a new restaurant tentatively called Sushirito is planning to open on Cambridge Street, with the address indicating that it would be moving into the space where a location of Blue Fuji had been. (Existing locations of Blue Fuji can currently be found in Medford and Bedford.) Little information on the place has been given other than the fact that the eatery would have seating for 16 and proposed hours of 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM, but the name "Sushirito" seems to indicate that the place could offer sushi burritos (there is a group of sushi burrito places in San Francisco and New York called "Sushirrito.") Several other places offering sushi burritos have either recently opened or will soon open in the Boston area, including OGinger and Pokeworks in Somerville's Davis Square, as well as the upcoming Manoa in Somerville near Cambridge's Porter Square and Love Art Sushi in Boston's Back Bay. OGinger Opens in Somerville's Davis Square
A new Japanese restaurant has come to a busy part of Somerville, and it features a food item that another dining spot next door will be offering as well.
Eater Boston is reporting that OGinger is now open in Davis Square, taking over the space on Elm Street where Yumi had been until closing in May. As indicated earlier, the new eatery offers sushi burritos as well as regular sushi, noodle and rice dishes, and more, and it looks like the confusion over the space has been cleared up, as a small Hawaiian chain featuring sushi burritos--Pokeworks--is planning to open next to OGinger. (Earlier, it was not known whether a single restaurant featuring sushi burritos might be taking over both spaces.)
