Sabor do Brasil Plans to Open in Allston

A new Brazilian restaurant may be coming to Allston, and it would be moving into the space where at least three other dining spots have been.

A Licensing Board PDF page on the City of Boston website indicates that a restaurant that is tentatively called Sabor do Brasil has applied for a common victualler license to operate on Brighton Avenue, with the address indicating that it would take over the spot where Teriyaki Joe's had been until closing this summer, and before that, Uchef and Burritos on Fire. No other information has been given for this restaurant, so keep checking back for updates as we get them.

Gourmet Eatery Is Moving into the Former Royal Palace Restaurant II Space in Boston's Chinatown

It looks like a new restaurant is moving into the space in Chinatown where another dining spot used to be, though there is very little information available on it at the present time.

According to a new Licensing Board PDF page on the City of Boston website, a restaurant called Gourmet Eatery has applied for a common victualler license to open on Tyler Street, with the address indicating that it would take over the spot where Royal Palace Restaurant II used to be, and before that, several other dining spots (including Cindy's Planet). As soon as we find out when Gourmet Eatery might open and what its menu may look like, we will post an update here.

[December 2 update: According to one of our readers, Gourmet Eatery has apparently opened; we are still trying to confirm, so keep checking back for updates.]

Ben and Jerry's Opens New Shop in Braintree

A Vermont-based ice cream company has opened another shop in the Boston area, and it is the first new store to open locally in a long time.

According to a Facebook post from Hyatt Place Boston/Braintree, Ben & Jerry's opened at South Shore Place in Braintree a couple of weeks ago, with the note saying that "this is the first new Ben & Jerry's Scoop Shop in Massachusetts in almost 15-years." The new ice cream shop joins several others in the area, including ones in the Back Bay and Park Plaza in Boston, the Harvard Square section of Cambridge, and Route 9 in Natick.

South Shore Place is a new development that is located across the street from South Shore Plaza near the Braintree Split.

Neighborhood Restaurant Group (Local 149, Biltmore) Plans to Open Two More Dining Spots

It looks like the folks behind a couple of Boston-area restaurants may be opening two more spots next year.

According to a post within the restaurant jobs section of the BostonChefs.com site, the Neighborhood Restaurant Group--which runs Local 149 in South Boston and The Biltmore Bar and Grille in Newton--says that it is looking for a "qualified AGM to join their growing restaurant group," as it "is slated to open 2 new locations in 2014." No other details have been given about the new places; as soon as we get more information, we will post an update here.

Local 149 resides in the old Farragut House space on P Street in the City Point section of South Boston, while The Biltmore Bar and Grille can be found on Chestnut Street in Newton Upper Falls. Both spots tend to focus on upscale comfort food in casual surroundings.

Petsi Pies Is Opening in East Cambridge

It looks like the person behind a bakery in Somerville and a cafe in Cambridge is opening a second location in Cambridge, and it will be moving into the space where a coffee bar used to be.

A License Commission General Hearing page on the City of Cambridge website states that Renee McLeod of Petsi Pies has applied for a common victualer license to open a shop on Cambridge Street, with the address showing that it would go into the former RJ Gourmet spot (RJ Gourmet closed in September). The note says that the new Petsi Pies could have seating for 15 and would tentatively be open from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM daily.

Locations of Petsi Pies include a bakery on Beacon Street in Somerville and a cafe on Putnam Street in Cambridge. Renee McLeod is also one of the owners of Tupelo, a Southern-style comfort food restaurant in Cambridge's Inman Square.

[November 1 update: A bit more info on this story--Eater Boston says that the location of Petsi Pies on Putnam Street in Cambridge will be closing because its lease is expiring in 2015. An earlier Harvard Crimson article mentioned that Darwin's Ltd., which bought the building, plans to open a new sandwich spot/bakery in that space once Petsi is gone, so the upcoming Petsi shop on Cambridge Street will apparently be a substitute for the one on Putnam Street. It is not yet known whether the Putnam Street shop will close before its lease is up; stay tuned for additional updates.]

Mario Batali's Eataly May Be Coming to Boston

It looks like a celebrity chef might be bringing a location of his popular Manhattan emporium to Boston.

The Boston Globe is reporting that Mario Batali and his business partners are checking out sites in Boston as possible locations of Eataly, a huge Italian marketplace that first opened in 2010 in the Madison Square section of New York. The article says one site that they are looking at is Faneuil Hall/Quincy Market, though they are also interested in the city's Back Bay neighborhood as well as other parts of Boston. If Eataly does come to the city, it wouldn't open until at least 2015.

The Globe article says that another Eataly--which will be even bigger than the original--is opening in Chicago this month.

[February 13, 2015 update: It appears that things may be moving forward with Eataly coming to Boston, as a response from Mario Batali last week to a follower's Twitter question on news about the place was, "we are very close !!!"]
