An Italian restaurant is coming to Brookline, and it will be moving into the space where a delicatessen resided until closing about five years ago.
According to the Brookline TAB blog, Jimmy's will be opening on Beacon Street in Washington Square, taking over the spot where B & D Deli used to be. Over the past few years, there was much speculation about restaurants moving into this space, but it remained empty since the summer of 2005.
The blog entry mentions that Jimmy's will be a casual neighborhood dining spot that focuses on Italian fare, and the restaurant will serve beer, wine, and cocktails, as it has received an all-kinds liquor license. At the present time, it is not known when Jimmy's might be opening.
[July 7, 2011 update: According to Boston.com, Jimmy's is now open. The article mentions that in addition to Italian meals, the new restaurant is also offering pizza that is made in a stone oven. Jimmy's is open nightly for dinner, and it will also be open for lunch starting tomorrow.]
According to one of our Twitter followers from the Visiting Boston site, the owner of Jimmy's had also been behind the now-closed Joe V's, a small neighborhood restaurant on Shawmut Avenue in the South End of Boston.
The address for this new Italian restaurant in Brookline is: Jimmy's, 1653 Beacon Street, Brookline, MA, 02445.
