Tacos El Charro in Jamaica Plain Closes (Again); Old Havana To Replace It

A Mexican restaurant in Jamaica Plain that has been in business for approximately 30 years--and which closed for awhile back in 2011--has shuttered for good, and now it looks like a Cuban dining spot may be moving into its space.

According to one of our readers, Tacos El Charro on Centre Street is no longer in business, and a sign for a new spot called Old Havana is now up at the site. An article in the Jamaica Plain Gazette confirms this, saying that the Mexican eatery was sold, with the new owners opening the upcoming Cuban restaurant soon. No other information on Old Havana appears to be available at this point in time.

[January 10, 2014 update: According to one of our readers (and confirmed on Yelp), Old Havana is now open. (There is still no information on this spot online, however, so keep checking back for updates.)

Tacos El Charro, which first opened in the 1980s, shut down for several months a couple of years back due to financial issues, with the dining spot ultimately having its power shut off until a payment plan for electricity was set up, allowing the place to reopen. The restaurant had offered such items as burritos, enchiladas, flautas, guacamole, and seafood dishes.

The address for the now-closed Tacos El Charro (and upcoming Old Havana) is 349 Centre Street, Jamaica Plain, MA, 02130.
