Old Sully's in Charlestown Has Apparently Closed

Earlier this year, we reported that one of Boston's true dive bars--and one that was used in a scene for a movie awhile back--could be closing down. Now it appears that this has indeed happened, albeit very quietly.

Based on a tweet as well as a couple of posts within a Facebook page for the place, Old Sully's in Charlestown appears to be permanently shuttered, with plywood in the windows and what looks to be "No Trespassing" signs out front. A couple of checks over the past several weeks had indicated that a sign was up saying that the Union Street watering hole was closed for vacation, but it apparently never reopened. In March, it was learned that Old Sully's was possibly transferring its license to another spot and that the space could end up being turned into condos, but nothing had been completely confirmed at the time.

Old Sully's was shown in a scene in The Town, a Ben Affleck movie released in 2010 that was nominated for a number of awards.

The address for Old Sully's was 56 Union Street, Charlestown, MA, 02129.
