A bit more than a year ago, we had reported that a new restaurant was on its way to Cambridge, and it could have a connection to a dining spot in Boston's Chinatown neighborhood. Now we have learned that the restaurant has opened--and it appears to be a second location of that eatery.
According to a Twitter post from @hoover_dam, Five Spices House is now open in Central Square, taking over the space on Mass. Ave. where Shalimar of India had been. Shalimar closed down in March of 2016, and at the time, it was not known if this was a permanent closure but in October of 2017, it was learned that a new dining spot with an apparent connection to Five Spices House on Beach Street in Chinatown was coming to the space, with its parent company being called Five Spices Buffet. Based on the menu at the Chinatown location of Five Spices House, the new restaurant in Cambridge could have Szechuan-style Chinese fare, though we are still waiting to see a menu before confirming this.
The address for Five Spices House in Central Square is 546 Massachusetts Avenue, Cambridge, MA, 02139.
