Moody's Delicatessen and Provisions in Waltham Is Open Once Again

An award-winning deli that abruptly shut down last month has reopened.

According to a Facebook post from the business, Moody's Delicatessen & Provisions in Waltham is open for business, with the note saying that "We're so thankful for the support and patience as we worked hard to reopen our doors....We can't wait to welcome you back. Stop by this weekend to check out the updates we've made and order one of our delicious sandwiches!" The post also mentions that they are now working on getting The Backroom (their adjacent restaurant and wine bar) up and running as well. (A Patch article from earlier this week said that the licensing commission indeed gave Moody's approval to reopen.)

In late April, Moody's quietly shuttered with a "closed for renovations" sign out front, and it was later learned that both the deli and The Backroom were shut down by the city because Moody's founder Joshua Smith was the licensee named on the food and liquor licenses but because he was no longer involved, both the deli and the bistro had been operating illegally and could not serve food or drink. The current operators were told by the city that they would need to apply for a license transfer and then get approval to receive the common victualler licenses so they could at least serve food while working out the liquor license issue.

Moody's Delicatessen & Provisions can be found at 468 Moody Street in Waltham. Its website is at https://www.moodyswaltham.com/
