Lumiere in West Newton Is Closing

An award-winning suburban bistro will soon be closing its doors.

The Tables section of The Boston Globe reports that Lumiere in West Newton is planning to shut down for good, with chef/partner Jordan Bailey saying that "We've been there 20 years, and the restaurant has run its course. The market has changed quite a bit as far as upscale stuff goes in the suburbs....It's hard to get out of that box." No specific closing date has been given for the Washington Street dining spot, though it appears that it could say farewell sometime in February.

Lumiere, which first opened in 1999, has been known for being a special-occasion spot featuring dishes with French and regional influences. Previous owner Michael Leviton sold the place to Bailey approximately four years ago, with Bailey being the restaurant's chef de cuisine at the time.

The address for Lumiere is 1293 Washington Street, West Newton, MA, 02465.

[February 4, 2020 update: According to a page within resy.com, Lumiere's "last supper" will take place on February 20.]

[February 4, 2020 update #2: Boston Magazine indicates that the "last supper" for Lumiere won't actually be its last supper, as the restaurant plans to remain open through February 29.]
