Lolita Cocina & Tequila Bar in Boston's Back Bay Opening New Location in Fort Point

An upscale Back Bay restaurant and bar that focuses on Mexican food and tequila is looking to expand to one of the hottest sections of the city for dining.

According to a Twitter post from @DGoodison of The Boston Herald, Lolita Cocina & Tequila Bar is planning to open in the city's Fort Point neighborhood, with a Fort Point Boston blog post confirming this, stating that a meeting will be held on January 19 to talk about the dining and drinking spot possibly coming to Summer Street. Based on the address given, it appears that the new location of Lolita may actually be overlooking Fort Point Channel (by the corner of Summer Street and Melcher Street), though it is not known in what section of the building it might be.

Lolita Cocina & Tequila Bar first opened on Dartmouth Street in December of 2010, taking over the Papa Razzi space (Papa Razzi subsequently moved to Newbury Street). The people behind the place also opened Red Lulu Cocina and Tequila Bar in Salem the following year, but it closed in 2013 and while there were plans for it to move to a nearby location and become another Lolita Cocina & Tequila Bar, those plans seem to have fallen through.

The address for the new location of Lolita in Fort Point is 253 Summer Street, Boston, MA, 02210. The website for the Back Bay location can be found at http://www.lolitatequilabars.com/

[October 14, 2017 update: A press release indicates that Lolita opens in Fort Point today and that it will have seating for 210 and will be just below sidewalk level along Fort Point Channel and the Harborwalk.]

Ariana Restaurant in Allston Moving to Charlesview Complex

It looks like an Afghan dining spot in Allston could be moving to a larger space nearby.

According to a post from Universal Hub, Ariana Restaurant on Brighton Avenue in the heart of the village is hoping to move to the new Charlesview complex, which is on Western Avenue near Soldiers Field Road and the Charles River. Before the eatery can make the move, it will need approval from the licensing board to change the address on the liquor license; UH says that the board "deferred action" on the issue at a meeting that took place yesterday.

[January 21 update: Based on information from a Boston Licensing Board page, Ariana could soon be one step closer to moving, as the city is looking into its plans today to transfer its liquor license to a new place called Mala Restaurant, which would be at the same location.]

[February 23 update: According to an article in Eater Boston, Ariana will leave its home on Brighton Avenue on February 28, with the restaurant hoping to move into its new space at the Charlesview complex around the middle of March.]

[August 20 update: A new article from Eater Boston states that Ariana opens in its new home on Saturday, August 29.]

Ariana Restaurant first opened its doors in Allston approximately five years ago.

The current address for Ariana is 129 Brighton Avenue, while the address that it is moving to is 384 Western Avenue. Its website can be found at http://www.arianarestaurantboston.com/

Dawat in Allston Closes; Ariana Cuisine to Open in Its Place

More changes are coming to the Allston dining scene, as an Indian restaurant has closed its doors and will be replaced by a new Afghan dining spot.

According to a couple of sources on our Facebook page (and based on an early posing on the EveryBlock Boston site as well as an article we wrote awhile ago), Dawat on Brighton Avenue has closed after being in business for approximately a year. The eatery had replaced another Indian restaurant called Rangoli, which had been in that space for more than a decade.

A new restaurant called Ariana Cuisine will be moving into the space where Dawat used to be, and it looks like it will be featuring Afghan fare. There appears to be no definitive opening date for Ariana Cuisine at this point in time; as soon as we get more details on the upcoming spot, we will post an update here. [June 11 update: According to one of our spotters in Allston, Ariana Cuisine is now open.]

The address for this new Afghan restaurant in Allston is: Ariana Cuisine, 127-129 Brighton Avenue, Allston, MA, 02134.

Two New Restaurants May Be Coming to Allston: Ariana Cuisine, Basil Asia Cafe

It looks like two more new restaurants may be coming to the Allston neighborhood of Boston at some point, and each of them will apparently be moving into spots where other restaurants have been.

According to EveryBlock Boston, a restaurant called Ariana Cuisine from Afghanistan may be opening at 127-129 Brighton Avenue in Allston. 129 Brighton Avenue has also been home to Dawat Fine Indian Cuisine; at this point in time we are unsure whether Dawat will become Ariana Cuisine under the same ownership or whether Dawat is being replaced by this restaurant. We will post updates as we get them, so keep checking back.

Also according to the EveryBlock Boston site, a restaurant called Basil Asia Cafe might be opening at 433 Cambridge Street on the other side of Allston Village. 433 Cambridge Street has been home to Bo Thai Cafe, so again, we are not sure at this point in time whether this is simply a name change under the same ownership, a more substantial change but with the same ownership, or simply a new restaurant replacing Bo Thai Cafe. Again, we will continue to do research to find more information on Basil Asia Cafe over the coming weeks.

Thanks once again to the EveryBlock Boston site for all of the information they post on potential new restaurants coming to the Boston area. If you would like to check out their site, they are at: http://boston.everyblock.com/
