Guy Fieri's Boston Kitchen + Bar in Downtown Boston Has Closed

It looks like a restaurant in the heart of Boston that had a celebrity chef/restaurateur behind it has very quietly shut down after being in business for a bit more than three years.

According to multiple sources, including a poster within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page, Guy Fieri's Boston Kitchen + Bar on Tremont Street is no longer in business, with a check on Fieri's website indicating that the web page for the restaurant has been removed. Based on commenters within the Facebook group, it appears that the dining spot actually shuttered last month, and this is the second restaurant from Fieri in Boston to close, as Guy Fieri's Tequila Cocina at the Hub on Causeway shut down in the fall of 2023.

The space in which Guy Fieri's Boston Kitchen + Bar was located was previously home to a restaurant called Explorateur, with both dining spots residing in the Grand Lodge of Masons building.

Guy Fieri's Boston Kitchen + Bar Opens in Downtown Boston December 9

Last year it was reported that Guy Fieri was planning to bring two dining spots to a space in the heart of Boston. Now we have learned that only one of them will open there, and that it debuts later this week.

According to an article from Boston Magazine, Guy Fieri's Boston Kitchen + Bar plans to open on Thursday, December 9 in the former Explorateur space--and Grand Lodge of Masons building--at the corner of Boylston Street and Tremont Street. The new restaurant will offer a mix of Fieri's familiar offerings along with items with New England influences, with the menu including trash can nachos, jalapeno pig poppers, Rhode Island-style calamari, pastrami eggrolls, wings, burgers, pulled pork sandwiches, hot honey fried chicken, mac daddy mac-n-cheese, chocolate whiskey cake, beer, wine, cocktails, and dessert drinks. The original plan was for Chicken Guy! to also open in the space as well, though that is no longer in the works.

In addition to Guy Fieri's Boston Kitchen + Bar, Fieri is also behind Guy Fieri’s Tequila Cocina at the Hub on Causeway by North Station and TD Garden.

Explorateur in Boston Is Closing; Guy Fieri to Open Two New Concepts in Space

A restaurant within a Masonic Temple space in downtown Boston is shutting down, and a celebrity chef and restaurateur is bringing two new concepts to the space.

According to a press release, Explorateur closes today, with the space (which is located at the corner of Boylston Street and Tremont Street) going through a complete renovation in preparation of the opening of Guy Fieri's Boston Kitchen + Bar and Chicken Guy! which will both open at the site. The email says that Guy Fieri's Boston Kitchen + Bar will be a restaurant with New England influences, with the menu including wings, burgers, small bites, and shareable options, while craft beers and cocktails will be served as well. Chicken Guy! will be a fast-casual spot that features grilled or fried chicken tenders offered with different sauces and served on skewers, in sandwiches, or in salad bowls, with sides such as fried pickles, mac and cheese, and fries available.

Explorateur first opened in the summer of 2017, with Ed Kane and his Big Night Entertainment Group being behind it; as with Guy Fieri's Tequila Cocina at the Hub on Causeway Development by North Station, Big Night will be partnering with Fieri on this project as well.

Guy Fieri's Tequila Cocina Is Opening at the Hub on Causeway Development

Last fall it was reported that a Mexican restaurant was being planned for a new development being built at the site of the old Boston Garden. Now we have learned that a celebrity chef and restaurateur will be behind it, teaming up with a local hospitality and entertainment company.

According to an article in The Boston Globe and a post from Eater Boston, Guy Fieri's Tequila Cocina is going to be opening at the Hub on Causeway, with Fieri and Big Night Entertainment Group (BNEG) being behind the place. The articles mention that the new restaurant will be set up within a music hall and nightclub called Big Night Live, with the dining spot having seating for 185 and featuring Latin American street food along with an array of tequilas. If all goes as planned, Guy Fieri's Tequila Cocina could be opening in late September.

Guy Fieri is known in part for such shows as "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives" and "Guy's Big Bite," and he also runs a number of restaurants including Guy's Foxwoods Kitchen + Bar in Connecticut.

[October 28 update: The Boston Globe says that Guy Fieri's Tequila Cocina opens this Thursday (which happens to be Halloween), while Big Night Live--and the Studio B at the Hub events space--opens on Thursday as well.]

Guy Fieri of Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives Is Featuring Boston Burger Company in Somerville, October 8, 2012

Over the past few weeks, Guy Fieri of "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives" has featured segments on Italian Express Pizzeria in East Boston, Cutty's in Brookline, and Tupelo in Cambridge. And tonight, a Somerville restaurant that focuses on burgers is going to be featured on the popular Food Network show.

According to the Facebook page of Boston Burger Company, the Davis Square eatery will be shown on a brand new episode of Triple D, which airs tonight (Monday, October 8) at 10:00 PM. Based on the Food Network's website, it appears that Guy will be looking at a macaroni and cheese burger at the dining spot, along with dishes at Anthony's Seafood in Middletown, RI, and Guerrilla Street Food in St. Louis, MO.

In addition to its Davis Square location, Boston Burger Company also has a branch on Boylston Street in the Back Bay of Boston.

Guy Fieri of Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives Is Featuring Tupelo in Cambridge, September 24, 2012

Earlier this month, Guy Fieri of "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives" featured segments on Italian Express Pizzeria in East Boston and Cutty's in Brookline. And tonight (Monday, September 24), another Boston-area restaurant will be featured on the show. According to the Facebook page of Tupelo in Cambridge's Inman Square, the Cambridge Street dining spot will be shown on a new episode of the popular Food Network show at 10:00 PM. The restaurant was one of several places that Fieri went to on a recent trip he took to the Boston area, with Italian Express, Cutty's, Angela's Cafe in East Boston, and Boston Burger Company in Somerville being some of the others.

Tonight's episode of "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives" will also feature Patti's Pierogis in Fall River along with Angelo's Civita Farnese Restaurant and Mediterraneo, both in Providence, RI.

Tupelo, which first opened in April of 2009, is a Southern-style comfort food spot that features such dishes as fried oysters, crepes, gumbo, pulled pork, blackened catfish, and chicken and waffles. Update: Italian Express in East Boston, Cutty's in Brookline Featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives Tonight

About a week ago, we reported that Guy Fieri of Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives was going to feature Italian Express Pizzeria in East Boston on his Food Network show tonight. Now we have learned that this won't be the only local restaurant to be shown on this evening's episode.

According to the Food Network's website, Cutty's in Brookline Village will be joining Italian Express Pizzeria on the Triple D episode tonight, with the episode titled "Massachusetts Madness." Cutty's, which is known for its handcrafted sandwiches, had been visited by Fieri on his most recent trip to the Boston area, with the Food Network host also visiting both Italian Express and Angela's Cafe in East Boston as well as Tupelo in Cambridge and Boston Burger Company in Somerville on the same trip. It looks like Guy will be looking at Cutty's roast beef sandwiches, as a recipe is shown for it on the website, while a haddock margarita with pan roasted potatoes is apparently going to be shown for Italian Express Pizzeria.

A few months ago, we reported that Guy Fieri of "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives" was filming at Italian Express Pizzeria in East Boston, and now we have learned when the segment on the dining spot will be aired on the show. According to the restaurant's Facebook page, Italian Express will be featured on the popular Food Network show on Monday, September 3 (which is Labor Day) at 10:00 PM. The eatery was one of a few spots that Fieri visited on his most recent trip to Boston, including Angela's Cafe in East Boston and Cutty's in Brookline. Guy Fieri Rolls Through East Boston

Earlier this week, we reported that Food Network host Guy Fieri was back in Boston, checking out several Boston-area restaurants, including Cutty's in Brookline yesterday. Today, it looks like he is spending his time in a neighborhood of Boston that is known for its many dining spots.

Based on a photo posted on his Twitter page, the host of Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives went to Italian Express Pizzeria on Sumner Street (apparently with Mayor Menino) as well as a possible trip to Angela's Cafe on Lexington Street, based on an article from Eater Boston as well as general posts on the Twitter site. Eater Boston also mentions that Fieri may also be going to (or may have already gone to) Yankee Lobster on the South Boston waterfront.

Both of the East Boston restaurants that Guy Fieri went to (if he did indeed go to Angela's Cafe) have been featured on Boston's Hidden Restaurants, which is our sister site. The reviews can be found below:

Guy Fieri of "Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives" Is Filming at Cutty's in Brookline

Food Network host Guy Fieri is back in town, this time filming at a restaurant in Brookline for a possible episode of his popular Food Network show.

BostonTweet is reporting (via @lillyj) that the host of Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives is at Cutty's on Washington Street in Brookline Village today, presumably filming for the show. Their filming at Cutty's does not necessarily mean that the eatery is guaranteed to be on Triple D, but the chances are very good that it will be shown in an upcoming episode.

[May 17 update: According to one of our connections on the Instagram site, Guy Fieri's car was seen at Cutty's at around 1:00 PM today (photo shown with a geotag attached).]

Cutty's is known in part for its handcrafted sandwiches that include bread from Iggy's and locally-sourced ingredients, along with sides such as house-made potato chips and pickles. A few sandwiches offered at the dining spot include egg salad, roast beef, slow-roasted pork with fennel, ham pimiento, and a spuckie with salami, capicola, and mortadella. News Elsewhere: Is Guy Fieri Opening a Restaurant in New York City?

It appears that the host of a popular Food Network show may be thinking about opening a restaurant in the Big Apple.

According to Food Republic, Guy Fieri of "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives" is apparently contemplating a new restaurant somewhere in New York City. The article mentions that the Food Network host said to a crowd of people at the Times Center in Manhattan (as part of a New York City Wine and Food Festival interview), "You want to hear a secret? There might be a Guy Fieri restaurant coming to this island."

Currently, Guy Fieri--a West Coast native--owns six restaurants (four Johnny Garlic's and two Tex Wasabi's), but all of them are located in California. The Food Republic article states that the New York City restaurant would not be a branch of Tex Wasabi's, but does not say anything about Johnny Garlic's.

The Little Depot Diner in Peabody Has Closed

A North Shore diner that received national attention thanks to a popular TV show has closed its doors.

According to The Salem News, The Little Depot Diner in Peabody shut down this past Friday after being in business for more than 60 years. The article mentions that the folks behind the eatery are hoping that new owners can be found for the 1929 Worcester Lunch Car diner on Railroad Avenue, but for now, the spot is closed until further notice.

In November of 2009, Guy Fieri of the Food Network's "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives" featured The Little Depot Diner on his show, focusing on such items as mulligatawny soup and Boston baked beans. The restaurant was one of a few that Fieri visited in the Boston area during that time period, including Sam LaGrassa's in Boston and Louie's Restaurant in Providence.

In addition to the items mentioned above, The Little Depot Diner also featured such items as French toast, pancakes, waffles, eggs benedict, corned beef hash, hamburgers, and hot dogs.

Guy Fieri of Diners, Drive -Ins, and Dives Is Featuring Merritt Canteen in Bridgeport, CT, Tonight

Food Network host Guy Fieri is back in New England, this time featuring a roadside restaurant in Connecticut on his show "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives," with the episode airing tonight.

According to the Food Network's website, Merritt Canteen in Bridgeport, CT, is being featured this evening, with the Main Street dining spot being one of three places mentioned on tonight's show (the other two being Katie's Restaurant in New Orleans and Jersey Cafe in Carmel, IN). It appears that Guy Fieri will focus on the hot dogs, burgers, and seafood served at this eatery, which our sister site (Boston's Hidden Restaurants) featured awhile back. Guy Fieri's Diners Drive-Ins and Dives Is Featuring Rino's in East Boston Tonight (October 25, 2010)

Food Network host Guy Fieri recently came to the Boston area (and Maine), and an Italian restaurant in East Boston that he visited will be featured on "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives" tonight.

According to the Food Network's website, Rino's Place on Saratoga Street will be one of three restaurants shown in tonight's episode, which airs at 10:00 PM and is titled "Made to Order." The blurb within the Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives section of the Food Network site mentions that the lobster ravioli at Rino's will be looked at, with other dishes at this neighborhood spot undoubtedly being tried as well.

The Lobster Shanty in Salem to Be Featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives Tonight

Tonight, the host of a popular Food Network show will be featuring a Boston-area restaurant and bar that focuses on American classics as well as seafood.

According to the show's website, Guy Fieri will air a segment on The Lobster Shanty in Salem on tonight's "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives," a show that looks at unique restaurants around the United States. The show, which is on the Food Network from 10:00 PM to 10:30 PM, will apparently feature The Lobster Shanty's stout marinated steak tips, as its recipe is displayed on the "Triple D" site. Other restaurants on the show tonight include The Brick in Kansas City, MO, and Oohh's and Aahh's in Washington, DC.

The Lobster Shanty is a local watering hole on Front Street in downtown Salem that serves such dishes as macaroni and cheese, lobster pie, a pulled pork platter, grilled swordfish, fried clams, burgers, hot dogs, and crab cakes. The dining spot also has live music on some nights.

Food Network host Guy Fieri will be featuring another New England restaurant next week, with this one being a popular diner in Southern Maine.

According to the TV show's site, "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives" will include The Maine Diner in Wells on Monday, August 9 between 10:00 PM and 10:30 PM. Guy Fieri had recently been in the area, checking out a number of restaurants in Massachusetts and Maine, including The Maine Diner, Greek Corner in Cambridge, and Rino's Place in East Boston.

The Maine Diner, which has been open on Route 1 near the Wells/Kennebunk border since 1983, features all kinds of classic American dishes, as well as a number of seafood items. Their menu includes chicken pot pie, macaroni and cheese, codfish cakes and beans, lobster pie, roast turkey, fried shrimp rolls, and chili dogs.

Guy Fieri of Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives Checks Out Rino's, Greek Corner, Lobster Shanty

Food Network host Guy Fieri has returned to New England, this time checking out restaurants in Southern Maine as well as three dining spots in the Boston area.

According to the Friends of Guy Fieri blog, the host of "Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives" recently looked at Rino's, an Italian restaurant in East Boston, Greek Corner, a Greek eatery in North Cambridge, and The Lobster Shanty, a seafood spot in Salem. (As confirmation, photos of Fieri at both Rino's and The Lobster Shanty were posted on Facebook, while at least one poster on Facebook mentioned a sighting of him at Greek Corner.)

Restaurants in Maine that Guy Fieri apparently visited include The Maine Diner in Wells, Bob's Clam Hut in Kittery, and Becky's Diner and the Porthole Restaurant, both in Portland, according to the Friends of Guy Fieri blog.

At this point, we are not sure whether all of these restaurants will make it onto "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives," but based on previous filmings for the show at local spots, the chances are pretty good that most if not all of these places will be featured on the show.

Guy Fieri to Feature The Little Depot Diner in Peabody Tonight (November 9, 2009)

Over the past few weeks, Guy Fieri, the host of the Food Network's "Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives," has featured a couple of restaurants in eastern New England, including a sandwich shop in Boston (Sam LaGrassa's) and a cheap eats spot for Italian fare and diner food in Providence (Louie's Restaurant). And this week, the affable and offbeat Fieri visits a tiny old breakfast and lunch place in downtown Peabody called The Little Depot. A diner that has been in this small North Shore city since just after World War II and resides in a classic Worcester Dining Car, The Little Depot features such items as pancakes, French toast, hot dogs, hamburgers, and baked beans. The show, which airs tonight at 10:00 PM (EST), will also feature diners in Santa Cruz, CA, and Norman, OK.
