B3 Restaurant & Bar Opens in Kingston

A new dining and drinking spot has come to a South Shore development, and the people behind it run several other places south of Boston.

According to a source, B3 Restaurant & Bar is now open in Kingston, moving into a space within the Kingston Collection. We have been told that the new spot has a connection to 3 Brothers Bar & Grill in Hanover along with locations of Brothers Roast Beef in Abington, Brookline, Dedham, Kingston, Malden, Quincy, and Weymouth, and that its menu includes such items as steaks, pizza, burgers, short ribs, seafood risotto, steak tips, fish and chips, shrimp scampi, lamb lollipops, and more.

Study Hall 101 Is Opening in Kingston

A family-friendly "library-inspired" restaurant and sports bar is on its way to the South Shore.

According to an article from Wicked Local and the Kingston Reporter, Study Hall 101 is planning to open within the Kingston Collection, taking over the space that had been home to a location of Waxy O'Connor's. The post mentions that owner/manager Derek Alten plans to open the spot sometime this fall, saying that "It's not only the address but it's also a play on the Intro to Chemistry 101 [that you'd] find in a college because we are a collegiate, library-inspired décor American restaurant."

Study Hall 101 will include a bar in the middle of the dining area along with a seasonal patio; drink offerings will include beer, wine, cocktails, and gourmet sodas, and live music is being planned on weekends.

The Studio Kitchen in Kingston Is Looking to Move to Las Vegas

An interactive cooking show and dining spot on the South Shore is planning to be reborn on the other side of the country.

According to an article from WCVB 5, The Studio Kitchen at The Kingston Collection in Kingston is hoping to move to Las Vegas, with owner Jim Cafarelli saying that the pandemic--which led to the closure of the shared Studio Kitchen/Bar Rustic space late last summer--is the reasoning behind the proposed move, stating that "COVID is, in my opinion, like the final nail in the coffin." Cafarelli and his son are currently looking to raise money for the rebirth of the business, mentioning that it is "Not a hard decision....You get to the point where you don't even know where the bottom is, so you have a decision to make: How deep do I want to go in debt? Once you remove the emotion from the decision, it's pretty clear what you need to do" while also saying that Las Vegas will open back up more quickly than much of the rest of the country and that the cooking/entertainment concept of The Studio Kitchen would fit in very well in Vegas.

In addition to The Studio Kitchen and Bar Rustic, Cafarelli was also behind Rustic Kitchen in Hingham, which closed toward the end of 2019.

Pizzeria Regina in Kingston Has Apparently Closed

It looks like another location of one of the best-known pizzerias in New England has shut down.

According to a source, Pizzeria Regina in Kingston is no longer in operation, with a check on the website for the company seeming to confirm this, as it is no longer listed within the locations page. (The directory for The Kingston Collection--which is where Regina's was located--has also removed the dining spot.) This is the second location of the pizzeria to close over the past few months, as the Allston outlet of Regina's shut down in July; it appears that all other locations--including the original in Boston's North End--remain open.

Bar Rustic in Kingston Has Closed

Late last year, it was reported that a popular Italian and Mediterranean restaurant on the South Shore was shutting down, though its other dining spot would remain in operation. Now we have learned that that restaurant has closed as well.

According to a couple of sources, Bar Rustic in Kingston is no longer in business, with a Facebook post from the place saying the following:

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the closure of Bar Rustic. The ongoing pandemic and its restrictions have made continuing operations no longer possible. We would like to thank our incredible team that has adapted to every new challenge this restaurant has faced, and we are grateful to our wonderful and loyal guests. Thanks as well to Pyramid Management Group and the Kingston and Plymouth communities. Be well, the Cafarelli Family.

Bar Rustic was known in part for its seasonal New American fare using locally-sourced ingredients, while also offering cooking classes as well. The people behind the dining spot also ran Rustic Kitchen in Hingham, which closed last December.

La Paloma Opening a Second Location in Kingston

A Mexican restaurant in Quincy that has been in business for nearly 30 years is going to be opening a second location, this one being further south of Boston.

According to a job posting on the Craigslist site, La Paloma is opening in the South Shore town of Kingston, where Route 3A and Route 106 meet, a short distance west of Route 3. The restaurant will be moving into the space where Boca II used to be (the original Boca on Route 139 in Pembroke remains open). No word has been given as to when La Paloma will open in Kingston, but the Craigslist post mentions that they will be accepting applications for the new spot toward the end of June. [August 15 update: The new La Paloma in Kingston is now open.]

The original La Paloma, which is located on Hancock Street in Quincy, has been serving authentic Mexican fare to diners since the early 1980s. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner six days a week (they are closed on Mondays).
