Wahlburgers at MarketStreet Lynnfield Has Closed

Another location of a chain of burger spots with local roots has shut down.

According to a Facebook post from the place, Wahlburgers at MarketStreet Lynnfield is no longer in business, having closed on April 27. A message was sent to us giving more information on the closure:

After several wonderful years serving the Lynnfield community, we have closed  our doors at our 930 Market Street restaurant. The lease had expired and we were unable to negotiate an equitable extension. We are incredibly grateful to our loyal guests, dedicated team members, and the local community for their support over the years. This location has meant a great deal to us, and we are proud of the memories and meals we’ve shared here. While we are closing this chapter, we’re excited to welcome our guests to continue enjoying our satisfying burgers at our nearby locations throughout the Boston area: two in Logan Airport, and one in Fenway, Springfield, Hingham and Plainville. Check out wahlburgers.com to find one closest to you!

This is the second location in the Greater Boston area to shutter over the past year or so, as the South Bay outlet in Dorchester closed its doors last spring. (The chain was founded by Mark, Donnie, and Paul Wahlberg.)

A popular Cape Ann restaurant that shut down a few years ago is returning to a new space in the northern suburbs of Boston.

Aquitaine in Dedham, Gaslight in Lynnfield Have Closed for Good

Earlier today it was reported than an Italian restaurant in Boston had closed down after sustaining damage from a water main break earlier this year. Now we have learned that two other dining spots from the same restaurant group have shut down as well.

According to a source, Aquitaine at Legacy Place in Dedham is no longer in operation, with a note on its website confirming this, while a similar note on the website for Gaslight at MarketStreet Lynnfield mentions that it has closed as well. Both notes say that "These are difficult times and this decision to close was not made easily" while also referring people to Aquitaine Boston, Gaslight, and Metropolis Cafe in Boston's South End along with Aquitaine Chestnut Hill.

As mentioned earlier, The Aquitaine Group has also closed Cinquecento in the South End, which was "devastated" by flood damage back in April.

A suburban spot that featured food, drink, and "escape rooms" has shut down after about a year and a half in business.

Based on the website for MarketStreet Lynnfield, Skeleton Key is no longer in operation, with social media posts confirming that the place closed in the fall. As mentioned in an earlier article, the spot was "part bar & lounge and part museum-of-curiosities," featuring physical adventure games in which groups would try to figure out a series of puzzles and crack codes before time ran out. (The business also offered snacks and meals along with beer and wine.)

Anoush'Ella Is Opening at MarketStreet Lynnfield

A Mediterranean and Middle Eastern restaurant that opened in Boston a couple of years ago is expanding to the suburbs.

According to a page within the MarketStreet Lynnfield website, Anoush'Ella is planning to open at the mixed-use development just off Routes 128 and 95, with the dining spot joining its original location on W Newton Street in the South End. The post says that it will be a "'Fine Casual' Eatery. Serving fresh, flavorful Eastern [Mediterranean] Food in a relaxing atmosphere where guests feel as if they are part of the family." Fat Biscuit at MarketStreet Lynnfield Has Closed

by Marc Hurwitz

It appears that a Southern-style restaurant in the northern suburbs that joined a New Hampshire location two years ago has shuttered

According to a source, Fat Biscuit at MarketStreet Lynnfield is no longer in business, with the place being cleared out and a sign out front saying that it has indeed closed down. A check on the MarketStreet Lynnfield website indicates that the restaurant is no longer listed there, while the restaurant's website has apparently been taken down.

Fat Biscuit first opened in early 2017, joining another location in North Conway (which is also closed), with both locations offering such items as biscuits and gravy, shrimp and grits, burgers, sausage balls, brick chicken, and a fried green tomato BLT.

The address for the Lynnfield location of Fat Biscuit was 335 Market Street, Lynnfield, MA, 01940.

Bali Hai in Lynnfield Is Closing

by Marc Hurwitz

It looks like one of the last of the region's old-school Polynesian restaurants is getting ready to close.

According to a Facebook post from one of the workers at the place, a sign out front says that Bali Hai in Lynnfield is shutting down for good, with the note stating that the Moulton Drive restaurant plans to close its doors on New Year's Eve. A newer Facebook post mentions that the closing date has been moved up to Sunday, December 30--we will try to confirm that this is indeed the final day as soon as we can.

Over the summer, we reported that plans were being made to replace Bali Hai with a luxury apartment complex, though an article from last month from the Daily Item said that those plans were rejected by the Zoning Board of Appeals. It is not known what might become of the space now, so stay tuned for updates as they come in.

Bali Hai, which first opened approximately 50 years ago, is known in part for its Chinese-American food along with its Polynesian cocktails and tiki drinks.

The address for Bali Hai is 160 Moulton Drive, Lynnfield, MA, 01940.

[December 30 update: A Facebook post from photographer and diner documentarian Larry Cultera confirms that today is the last day for Bali Hai.]

Proposal Being Looked at to Replace Bali Hai in Lynnfield with Apartment Complex

by Marc Hurwitz

The future of one of the region's last old-school Polynesian restaurants could be in doubt, though plans to replace it with a luxury apartment complex have been met with a bit of resistance.

According to an article in the Lynn Item, a meeting took place last night on a proposal to replace Bali Hai in Lynnfield with a 32-unit, three-story residential development. The post says that the Planning Board ultimately voted against the project, recommending to the Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) that they do not grant a special permit for it after listening to local residents share their concerns about the plans. (The ZBA is expected to vote on the proposal this evening.) Matthew and David Palumbo, who are behind the plans to build the complex at the Moulton Drive site, apparently have an agreement to purchase the property, which is located just off Route 128 near the Route 1 intersection.

Bali Hai has been in business for more than 50 years, offering mostly Chinese-American food along with Polynesian cocktails and tiki drinks. A couple of years ago, we had reported that the restaurant had been up for sale, though no further updates were given on the place.

The address for Bali Hai is 160 Moulton Drive, Lynnfield, MA, 01940. Its website can be found at http://www.balihailynnfield.com/

Zinneken's Is Opening at MarketStreet Lynnfield

by Marc Hurwitz

It looks like a bakery-cafe in Cambridge that features Belgian waffles may be expanding to a suburban retail development, though its plans to open where a grilled cheese spot had been have changed.

According to a message from The Passionate Foodie, Zinneken's had been looking to open in the former Roxy's Grilled Cheese space at MarketStreet Lynnfield, with a Patch article and a Facebook page from the business giving the same information. A message sent to us by the business on July 8, however, mentions that they have decided not to open there, instead coming to a new location in the same development next to J.P. licks and the Apple store. The new location of Zinneken's is still expected to debut in October, according to the person we talked to.

The original Zinneken's first opened on Arrow Street in Harvard Square in September of 2011.

The website for Zinneken's can be found at http://zinnekenswaffles.com/

[June 11, 2019 update: Zinneken's has not yet opened at MarketStreet Lynnfield, but a source tells us that a sign is now up for the place, and its Facebook page states that it plans to open in the middle of July.]
