Street Bistro in Charlestown Is Becoming Tangierino Once Again

A well-known name in Charlestown that was rebranded five years ago only to return a year later before being rebranded again is returning once again.

According to a couple of sources, Street Bistro is going back to being Tangierino, with a note within the Street Bistro website confirming that it will indeed be returning. Tangierino, which has been known for its French and Moroccan fare, first opened approximately 25 years ago, with the restaurant changing over to a Spanish tapas bar called Madera 83 in 2017, then changing back to Tangierino in 2018 before becoming Street Bistro in 2020.

The address for the new version of Tangierino is 83 Main Street, Charlestown, MA, 02129. The website for Street Bistro is at https://www.streetbistrocharlestown.com/

[December 21 update: According to a poster within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page, Tangierino is now open once again.]

Moroccan Hospitality Restaurant in Somerville Has Closed

A family-owned restaurant in Somerville that featured North African cuisine has shut down, and COVID is to blame.

According to an article in Wicked Local, Moroccan Hospitality Restaurant on Somerville Avenue is no longer in business, with sisters Amina and Nouzha Ghallay initially starting off the year strong with their dining spot, but as Nouzha says, "In March, we had all these reservations, but as soon as COVID hit us, people started canceling them. After March, the business was going down, down, down – sinking little by little – and we never recovered from that." The restaurant started out in Malden in 2011, moving to Somerville three years later, with the menu including such dishes as lentil fritters, lamb tajine, chicken kebabs, and veggie couscous.

The address for the now-closed Moroccan Hospitality Restaurant was 585 Somerville Avenue, Somerville, MA, 02143.

Madera 83 in Charlestown Changes Back to Tangierino

by Marc Hurwitz

A French and Moroccan restaurant is back, having replacing the Spanish tapas bar that had replaced it last year.

Eater Boston confirms what we had heard a few weeks ago, that Tangierino is open once again in Charlestown, taking over its former space--and where Madera 83 had been since last October. The post mentions that owner Samad Naamad actually decided earlier this year to bring the upscale eatery back to its Main Street location, telling Eater that "It's back and it's better." (A hookah lounge is located in the basement of the space as well.)

Matthew Leddy, who had previously worked at Townsman in downtown Boston, had been in charge of the reconcepting of the space into Madera 83 last year; he is now working with Bar Harbor Catering Company in Maine.

The address for Tangierino (and the former Madera 83) is 83 Main Street, Charlestown, MA, 02129. Its website can be found at http://tangierino.com/

Blue Fez Is Opening in Former Naumkeag Ordinary Space in Salem

by Marc Hurwitz

A new restaurant is replacing a dining and drinking spot in Salem that closed abruptly last year, and the person behind it runs another eatery in Winthrop.

According to a Facebook post, Blue Fez is planning to open in the former Naumkeag Ordinary space on Washington Street, with the thread indicating that the restaurant is starting to go through the renovation and permitting process. The post also mentions that Nasser Belghiti, who is the chef-owner of the upcoming spot, owns and operates Kasbah Restaurant on Putnam Street in Winthrop Center; that restaurant focuses on Moroccan dishes, and the Facebook page for Blue Fez indicates that it could focus at least in part on Moroccan fare as well, though it is not known exactly what will be on the menu as of yet.

Naumkeag Ordinary closed last August with very little warning after a bit more than four years in business, with the restaurant featuring mostly seasonal New American fare.

The address for this new restaurant in Salem is: Blue Fez, 118 Washington Street, Salem, MA, 01970.

Thanks to @CappyinBoston for bringing this to our attention.

[August 26 update: The Salem News mentions that Blue Fez plans to open this fall, and that it will indeed focus on Moroccan-inspired dishes.]

[December 27 update: According to a source, Blue Fez is now open in Salem, with confirmation on its opening coming from the restaurant's Facebook page as well.]

Moroccan Hospitality Restaurant Has Apparently Closed Its Malden Location

It appears that a Moroccan restaurant in Malden that is getting ready to open in Somerville has closed its original location.

Based on information from a couple of posters on the Chowhound site, Moroccan Hospitality Restaurant on Salem Street is no longer in business, with the space being "emptied out." The folks behind the dining spot are going to be opening a location of the place on Somerville Avenue in Somerville where Razzy's bar used to be, so it now looks like this may be a move instead of a second location (this still needs to be confirmed).

Moroccan Hospitality Restaurant Is Opening in Somerville

It looks like the folks behind a restaurant in Malden are opening a dining spot with the same name in Somerville, though it is not yet known whether this is a move or a second location.

According to posters on the Chowhound site (and confirmed by the City of Somerville), Moroccan Hospitality Restaurant is planning to open on Somerville Avenue, moving into the space where Razzy's bar used to be. One of the Chowhound posters says that there is still paper on the windows, though the awning now shows the name of the place. No other information has been given, so keep checking back for updates.

The original location of the eatery is on Salem Street east of Malden Center. [ED NOTE: It looks like the Malden location is now closed.]

[June 10 update: Eater Boston mentions that Moroccan Hospitality Restaurant opens its doors in Somerville this Friday (June 13).]

The address for this new spot in Somerville is: Moroccan Hospitality Restaurant, 585 Somerville Avenue, Somerville, MA, 02143. The Facebook page for the Malden location can be found at ‎https://www.facebook.com/moroccanhospitality
