Tavern in the Square to Open Locations in Quincy, Norwell, and North Andover

A growing local group of dining and drinking spots has big expansion plans, with three more coming to the local area while two others are opening a bit further away as well.

According to an Instagram post from the business, Tavern in the Square is planning to open locations in Quincy, Norwell, and North Andover, joining a number of others in the Greater Boston area and beyond. In addition, the Burlington location is being renovated while two additional new outlets will be coming to Dartmouth and Seekonk.

Tavern in the Square first started out in Cambridge's Central Square a bit more than 20 years ago, with the chain offering classic American fare along with beer, wine, and cocktails. Its website can be found at https://www.taverninthesquare.com/

Not Your Average Joe's in Norwell Is Closing

It looks like yet another location of a local chain of family restaurants is shutting down as the chain continues to shrink.

According to a source, Not Your Average Joe's in Norwell is closing, with both a Facebook post on 365 Things to do South Shore MA and a Google search indicating that the last day for the Pond Street location will be Saturday, February 21. Once it closes, the only ones left in the Greater Boston area will be in Acton, Bedford, Waltham, and Westwood, as outlets in Arlington, Burlington, Medford, Methuen, Peabody, Randolph, and Watertown have shut down over the past ten years or so.

Sparrell's Roadside Kitchen Opens Above Cheever Tavern in Norwell Center

A new takeout spot has opened in the southern suburbs of Boston, and it sits above an upscale tavern with an ownership connection.

According to its Instagram page, Sparrell's Roadside Kitchen is now up and running in Norwell Center, and a source tells us that it has been opened by the team behind Cheever Tavern which is underneath the store. The new shop (which appears to be going through a soft opening) is offers such to-go items as gourmet pizza, pasta, sandwiches, salads, and sushi.

Cheever Tavern first opened in 2020, focusing on classic American and New American fare along with beer, wine, and cocktails.

Cheever Tavern Is Opening in Norwell Center

A new dining and drinking spot is on its way to a quiet village center on the South Shore.

According to a post within the jobs section of bostonchefs.com, Cheever Tavern is planning to open in Norwell Center, with a post from WATD 95.9 FM saying that it will be moving into the space on Main Street where McGreal's Tavern had been. The job post mentions that the 70-seat restaurant and bar will offer "upscale American tavern food" while also having 20 beer taps and offering "specialty" cocktails. No opening date has been given as of yet for Cheever Tavern, with its Facebook page simply saying that it is coming soon.

[February 21 update: The Patriot Ledger states that Cheever Tavern hopes to have a soft opening in the middle of April and it planning to be fully open by Mother's Day, with such items as sandwiches, tacos, and brick chicken being a few items on the menu.]

[August 18 update: A tweet from @JeffCutler indicates that Cheever Tavern is now open, while its website (which indicates it has both indoor and outdoor dining) shows such items as guacamole, wings, burgers, lobster rolls, fried chicken sandwiches, bolognese, fish and chips, macaroni and cheese, and more.]

Reggio Ristorante and Catering Has Reopened in Norwell

An Italian restaurant and caterer on the South Shore has reopened in a new location after being closed for a couple of years.

A press release sent to us by a Boston-area public relations and communications professional has confirmed that Reggio Ristorante & Catering has opened its doors once again. The dining spot is now located on Route 53 in Norwell, a few miles east of its former location on Route 18 in Weymouth where it had been for about 10 years. Reggio is once again featuring authentic Italian dishes and cocktails in a casual, contemporary space.

The menu at Reggio features such dishes as eggplant rollups, bruchetta, minestrone soup, baked penne, gnocchi, linguine with clam sauce, chicken piccata, veal marsala, sausage cacciatore, shrimp fra diavolo, and pizza. A children's menu is also available.

Sal's Pizza Opening in Norwell

About two weeks after reporting on a new Sal's Pizza opening up in Woburn, we have just learned that yet another location of this rapidly-growing chain of pizza places and Italian restaurants is going to be opening, this one south of Boston. According to a job posting on the Craigslist site, Sal's will be opening on Grove Street in Norwell (at the Route 53 intersection), a short distance south of the Hingham line. Sal's Pizza (and its sister restaurants Mary's Pasta and Sandwiches and Salvatores Italian Restaurant) are mostly located north of Boston, with no locations on the South Shore at the present time, so when it opens, the new Sal's in Norwell will indeed be the first time many South Shore residents get to try the chain's popular 19-inch pizzas and 1-pound calzones.

[January 6 update: According to the restaurant's website, the new Sal's Pizza in Norwell is now open.]

The Four's Bar and Grille Opens in Norwell

A third location of The Four's has just opened, with this one being in Norwell. The Four's, a restaurant and sports bar that opened its first location on Canal Street near North Station in Boston in the mid-1970s, has been a popular place to enjoy pub grub and drinks while watching the local teams on TV.

The Four's also a restaurant and pub on Cottage Avenue in Quincy Center.

The Four's to Open a New Location in Norwell

The Four's Restaurant and Sports Bar will be soon be opening a third location, with this one being in the suburbs south of Boston. According to the Patriot Ledger, The Four's will be opening a third location in Norwell around the beginning of April (the second one is in Quincy Center).

The Four's first opened around North Station in Boston in 1976, with the Quincy location opening up in the mid 1990s. According to the restaurant's Web site, Sports Illustrated rated them as the #1 sports bar in America.
