Floramo's Is Planning to Open at Revere Beach

A restaurant known for its steak tips that has been in several spaces over the past few years appears to have a new home, and this one will be along the ocean just north of Boston.

According to a source, Floramo's is planning to open at Revere Beach, with a YouTube video of a License Commission Meeting from this week from RevereTV showing a person whose family owns the property where Antonia's is housed saying that Floramo's will be the new tenant at the Revere Beach Boulevard space, though a lease has not yet been signed. (He also says that the owner of Antonia's has been evicted and the restaurant needs to vacate by the end of the month.)

Floramo's Restaurant had originally been in Chelsea, moving to spaces in Wakefield and Malden in 2022 after the Chelsea location closed due to redevelopment, though both the Wakefield and Malden restaurants shut down in 2024; the restaurant then briefly collaborated with Bossmama in Wakefield this past winter.

The address for Antonia's (and the planned location of Floramo's) is 492 Revere Beach Boulevard, Revere, MA, 02151.

[July 2 update: A message sent to us indicates that it is now official that Floramo's will be moving into the Antonia's space at Revere Beach, with a photo sent showing a Floramo's sign now up at the space.]

Bianchi's Pizza Is Reopening in the Former Renzo's Space at Revere Beach

A legendary pizzeria is returning to the North Shore.

According to a Facebook post from the business, Bianchi's Pizza is going to be reopening at Revere Beach, moving back into the Renzo's space on Revere Beach Boulevard that they had been in (along with Renzo's) until this past fall after saying farewell to its longtime home along the beach back in 2018. Bianchi's tells us in the post that they will be operating the pizzeria on their own, though the bar there will be run by someone else, with the bar apparently serving both beer and wine.

If all goes as planned, Bianchi's will reopen sometime this spring, with construction having already begun on the space. In addition, the pizzeria's plans to open in a space by the Lynn/Saugus line are still in the works, but it is not known when that outlet will open.

The address for Bianchi's is 381 Revere Beach Boulevard, Revere, MA, 02151.

[May 7 update: A Revere Journal article mentions that Bianchi's has gotten approval to serve takeout pizza while it continues to work on major repairs to the space with the hope being that it gets a liquor license for seated dining. It appears that customers may be able to order pizza to-go there very soon, as the article says that "The commissioners voted to approve the takeout business, which can start immediately," though a Facebook post from the place (which will apparently be called "Bianchi's at the Sand Bar") simply says "Getting closer & closer to announcing a date!!!"]

[July 15 update: According to a source, Bianchi's is now open, with the Facebook page from the place confirming this, having opened today at 11:00 AM; its posts indicate that the pizzeria now accepts credit cards as well as cash and that it offers both slices and whole pizzas.]

A decades-old seaside ice cream shop has shut its doors permanently.

According to a source, Banana Boat at Revere Beach has closed down, with a Facebook post from the place saying the following:

It is with a heavy heart we have made the tough decision to close Banana Boat Ice Cream. Words will never be enough to express our gratitude to our family, hard-working employees, dedicated customers, suppliers, and each person who has supported us over the years....The Schena Family looks forward to their next chapter spending the summers with family and forever cherishing all the memories Banana Boat has given us over the last 43 years. We love you, we thank you, and we'll see you at the beach!

Banana Boat, which was established in 1977, has offered soft-serve ice cream, banana splits, sundaes, frappes, floats, freezes, and more over the years.

Cut21 Is Opening at Revere Beach; Owner of Dryft and Fine Line Behind It

[Ed note: This article was updated on March 26 and April 23 to reflect new information given.]

A new restaurant is on its way to an historic seaside area a few miles north of Boston.

According to a press release, an as-of-yet unnamed dining spot is opening at the upcoming Ryder development at Revere Beach, with Michael Aldi of Dryft and Fine Line within the nearby 500 Ocean Ave development being behind the restaurant. Very little is known about the new dining spot other than the fact that it will have beachfront seating, so stay tuned for updates, including when it might debut (Ryder plans to open early this year.)

The address for Ryder--and its new restaurant--is 21 Revere Beach Boulevard, Revere, MA, 02151. The website for the Ryder development can be found at https://liveryder.com/

[March 16 update: According to a new press release, the restaurant coming to the Ryder Development will be called TYDE, and it will be a high-end New American spot whose offerings will include dry-aged beef and fresh-caught seafood, with the restaurant having both indoor and outdoor dining. (If all goes as planned, TYDE will open this summer.]

[April 23 update: A new press release states that the new restaurant coming to Revere Beach will be called Cut21 instead of TYDE.]

[July 6 update: According to an Instagram post from the place, Cut21 is now open.]

Bianchi's Pizza Says Farewell to the Renzo's Space at Revere Beach

A beloved pizzeria that lost its home a couple of years ago only to find a new home in a nearby dining spot has now left that space, though hope remains that it will open in its very own space next year.

According to multiple sources (including a Facebook post from Boston's Wicked North Shore along with Sage Carbone, who messaged us about it), Bianchi's Pizza has said goodbye to its space within Renzo's at Revere Beach, with the place saying in a post that it still has plans to open on the Lynn/Saugus line as reported here earlier. In addition, though there had been chatter that Renzo's might be closing, a post from that place indicates that it is still open for business.

Bianchi's had been open on Revere Beach Boulevard for nearly 70 years until closing in the summer of 2018 to make room for new development. The pizzeria soon reopened within Renzo's, which is also on Revere Beach Boulevard, while news subsequently came out that Bianchi's was planning to eventually move into the O'Brien's space on Boston Street near where Lynn and Saugus meet.

Bianchi's is hoping to open in its new home in the early part of 2021, though that is not a given at this point in time, and the post from them seems to indicate that more than one location could be on the way, so stay tuned for updates as they come in.

Revere Beach Restaurants End Takeout Service; Delivery Service Only Option Now

An historic seaside area just north of Boston no longer has any takeout options for at least the time being.

According to a tweet from @JimMacKayOnAir of WBZ 1030, restaurants along Revere Beach Boulevard have been told to stop offering takeout, which means that they can only do delivery at this point, as Revere has seen a dramatic increase in COVID-19 positive cases over the past week from 8 to 83. A segment on WBZ mentions that the order came from the Revere Board of Health, and while an article in The Boston Herald indicates that the city "encouraged" restaurants along the beach to cease takeout, it appears that the dining spots voluntarily did so, with some switching to deliver-only and others closing down completely for now. It is not yet known how long Revere Beach restaurants will need to stick to delivery-only.

This news follows on the heels of Arlington ordering restaurants to keep customers from being inside any establishments early last week, with dining spots in town now only able to offer service via takeout windows or entrances where patrons remain outside, along with curbside delivery or regular delivery.

Dryft and Fine Line to Open at Revere Beach; John and Michael Aldi (Pier 6, Reel House, Mija) Behind Them

by Marc Hurwitz

[Ed note: This article was updated on July 26, 2019 to reflect the fact that two new dining spots will be coming to the development.]

It looks like an upscale restaurant is on its way to an historic seaside location a few miles north of Boston, and a couple of people who are behind several local restaurants are behind this spot as well.

According to a press release, John and Michael Aldi are opening a new "contemporary restaurant and bar" at a new mixed-use development on Ocean Avenue at Revere Beach that is currently under construction, with the unnamed 5,000-square-foot spot featuring "a creative menu and cocktail program" along with outdoor plaza seating. No specific opening date has been given as of yet, but the release indicates that it could be opening next year.

John and Michael Aldi are investors and operators of such restaurants as Pier 6 in Charlestown, the Reel House in East Boston, and Mija Cantina & Tequila Bar at Boston's Faneuil Hall.

The address for this upcoming restaurant and bar will be 500 Ocean Avenue, Revere, MA, 02151.

[July 26, 2019 update: Eater Boston states that two new dining spots will actually be coming to the new development in Revere, which will be called "500 Ocean Avenue." The restaurants will be Dryft, which will feature Neapolitan-style pizza, seafood (including a raw bar), pasta, craft beer, whiskey, and more, and with a takeout kitchen being part of the space, while Fine Line will be more of a beer bar with pizza, craft beer, and whiskey offered.]

[November 11, 2019 update: A new post from Eater Boston indicates that Dryft is now open for dinner and a weekend brunch, with expanded hours apparently coming next week. (It is not yet known when Fine Line might open.)]

Update: New Development Planned for Bianchi's Space at Revere Beach; Pizza to Live on at Renzo's

by Marc Hurwitz

It looks like a new apartment complex is in the works for a seaside space, and the site happens to be home to a landmark pizzeria.

According to an article in the Revere Journal, the Revere City Council has approved of a special permit for a non-conforming use that would allow a 145-unit apartment development to be built on Revere Beach Boulevard, with the structure being planned for the space where Bianchi's currently resides. The proposal calls for three existing buildings at the site to be demolished, with the new six-story building including space for a restaurant; Ward 4 Councillor Patrick Keefe asked at the meeting if there was some kind of guarantee that the pizzeria could be the dining spot within the space, though the article does not give any further information about the possibility of Bianchi's remaining at the site.

Bianchi's, which has been in business for nearly 70 years, has been featured by our sister site (Boston's Hidden Restaurants) as one of the best places in the Greater Boston area for pizza. The review can be found at the link below:

https://www.hiddenboston.com/BianchisPizza.html

The address for Bianchi's Pizza is: 322 Revere Beach Boulevard, Revere, MA, 02151.

[May 4 update: An article from itemlive.com mentions that the City Council has approved of the construction plans at the Bianchi's site, and that Bianchi's has been told it can remain open until around Labor Day, at which point the pizzeria may either look for a temporary space in which to open during construction (which may take a year or more) or wait until construction of the apartment development is completed and move back in pending the signing of a lease there. (Thanks to a source for bringing this to our attention.)]

[August 31 update: According to several sources, Bianchi's will be closing down Labor Day Weekend, with its last day apparently being Monday, September 3. It is not known for sure what will happen to Bianchi's once it closes, so stay tuned for more updates as they come in.]

[September 1 update: A new article from itemlive.com states that although Bianchi's is indeed shutting down this weekend, there is a ray of hope, as one of the people behind the place says that they now plan to reopen in another space nearby, though they can't announce exactly where until legal agreements are complete.]

[September 3 update: A video from The Phantom Gourmet mentions that Bianchi's pizza ovens will be moved to Renzo Pizzeria on Revere Beach Boulevard and that Bianchi's pizzas will be available there soon; it is not yet known whether Renzo's pizzas will continue to be offered there as well, so keep checking back for more updates as they come in.]

[September 11 update: A comment on Facebook indicates that Renzo's wood-fired pizza ovens had to be removed to make way for Bianchi's brick ovens, but it appears that the rest of Renzo's menu may remain in place.]

[October 20 update: According to a source, Bianchi's pizza is now being served at Renzo's, with a Facebook post from Renzo's confirming this.]

Marcos Tacos Plans to Open at Revere Beach

A brand new taco spot could be on its way to a seaside location, and it appears that it would replace a now-closed watering hole.

According to a job post within the Craigslist site, Marcos Tacos is planning to open at Revere Beach, with the address given indicating that it may be moving into the space where Boulevard Bar and Grill had been. The listing mentions that the eatery--which is currently seeking a kitchen manager--will offer fresh tacos along with a full bar that features margaritas and sangria.

An exact opening date has not yet been given for Marco Tacos; as soon as we find out when it might open, we will post an update here.

The address for this proposed taco spot at Revere Beach is: Marcos Tacos, 320 Revere Beach Boulevard, Revere, MA, 02151.

Rumors of Bianchi's Pizza in Revere Closing Appear to Be False

There has been much chatter this week about the possibility of a legendary pizza place closing, but it looks like those rumors are not true.

Over the past couple of days, a rumor started making the rounds about Bianchi's Pizza at Revere Beach closing, but a poster on the Revere Community Group Facebook page said yesterday that he "just went and got a pizza and they said that the place next door the boulevard was closing. The guy in bianchi's said they're [not] closing," while a source within the restaurant industry called the pizzeria this afternoon and was told that it was a false rumor and that they are getting a lot of calls from people as to whether the rumor is true. A couple of posters on the community thread imply that the property--not the restaurant--may have been sold, though this has not been confirmed, nor is it known for sure if the Boulevard Bar next door is indeed shutting down. (As soon as we find out more, we will post an update here.)

Bianchi's is a 65-year-old spot that our sister site (Boston's Hidden Restaurants) has featured as one of the best places in the Boston area for pizza. The review can be found at the link below:

http://www.hiddenboston.com/BianchisPizza.html

The address for Bianchi's is 322 Revere Beach Boulevard, Revere, MA, 02151.

Revere Beach Restaurants: Are Any Closing?

As the newspapers and radio stations have reported, Revere Beach is undergoing major renovations this summer, with sidewalks being added and head-in parking being taken away. While these are potentially beneficial changes to the area, they also seem to be hurting at least a few of the businesses on the beach this summer. I had heard a rumor about one restaurant on Revere Beach possibly closing (no names, though it isn't Kelly's). If anyone has heard anything else about restaurants hurting for business and/or potentially closing, please drop me a line here. Thanks!
