Kristen Kish (Menton, Top Chef) to Host "36 Hours" on the Travel Channel

A former chef at a top Boston restaurant--and winner of Bravo's Top Chef competition--is returning to television, this time hosting a show that is a collaboration with one of the most popular newspapers in America.

Boston Magazine is reporting that Kristen Kish will be hosting "36 Hours" on the Travel Channel with former pro soccer player Kyle Martino, with the New York Times having a column that coincides with the episodes. The article says that the show will have Kish and Martino go to cities around the world and spent one and a half days in each place, having "local insiders" show them some of the more unique culinary spots.

Kristen Kish worked as chef de cuisine in Boston's Fort Point neighborhood, and she was also crowned champion of Top Chef: Seattle in the 2012/2013 season.

More information on "36 Hours" (which premiers later this year) can be found at the link below:

Andrew Zimmern Visits Boston on The Travel Channel's "Bizarre Foods: Delicious Destinations" February 9, 2015

A chef, writer, and TV host is featuring the city of Boston once again, this time in a new spin-off of his popular Travel Channel show.

The Boston Globe mentions (via an interview) that Andrew Zimmern of "Bizarre Foods" visits Boston in an episode of "Bizarre Foods: Delicious Destinations," with the show airing on February 9 at 9:00 PM (EST). Based on information Zimmern gives in the interview, it appears that the show could include stops at Legal Sea Foods, the Cookie Monstah truck, The Parker House, Durgin-Park, and Union Oyster House, though it isn't entirely clear whether this last spot will definitely be shown.

An episode of "Bizarre Foods" took a look at Boston back in February of 2012, with Zimmern going to such places as Clio, The Daily Catch, Maria's Pastry, o ya, and Santarpio's.

News Elsewhere: Travel Channel Pulls Adam Richman's New Show After Instagram Rant

The host of several TV food shows has had his latest show pulled (at least for now), possibly because of a social media tirade that he went on.

The Washington Post is reporting that Adam Richman of "Man v. Food" fame has had his new show "Man Finds Food" pulled by the Travel Channel, with the show no longer being seen on the network's schedule. The article indicates that the postponing of the show could be in response to an Instagram rant where Richman was called out for using the hashtag #thinspiration, which the XOJane site says is popular in pro-anorexia and pro-bulimia circles. When this was brought up to him, Richman responded with a number of expletive-filled posts on Instagram, at least some of which have since been deleted. The TV host subsequently delivered an apology to ABC's "Good Morning America," stating that "I'm incredibly sorry to everyone I've hurt."

At this point in time, it is not known if or when "Man Finds Food" will be shown the Travel Channel. (It was supposed to have had its debut on July 2.)

Thanks to Eater National for initially bringing this to our attention.

Quencher Tavern in South Boston Is Closing

It looks like a dive bar in South Boston that was once featured on a popular food/travel show is closing its doors.

According to a Boston Licensing Board page, the Quencher Tavern on I Street is seeking to transfer its liquor license to the Painted Burro, which is going to be opening a new location on Temple Place in Boston's Downtown Crossing area. The Quencher Tavern was one of several spots in South Boston that Anthony Bourdain visited in 2011 for No Reservations, a show on the Travel Channel that ended last year. A few other places that Bourdain went to in Southie included Rondo's Sub Shop, Murphy's Law, the Galley Diner, and the L Street Tavern.

As soon as we confirm that the bar will be closing its doors, we will post an update here.

[August 22 update: It has now been confirmed that the Painted Burro has indeed purchased the liquor license from the Quencher Tavern, and one poster on Twitter says that the bar may be closing around November. (More updates will be posted as soon as we get them.)]

[November 11 update: The Caught in Southie site states (as do a number of folks on Twitter) that the Quencher Tavern had a "farewell" block party outside the bar yesterday.]

[November 12 update: We have now learned that contrary to all the reports over the weekend, the Quencher Tavern's farewell party was not actually its farewell, and that it will be open for approximately two more weeks. Thanks to one of our sources (who is a Boston-area chef and lives in the neighborhood) for bringing this to our attention.]

[November 27 update: South Boston Today reports that the Quencher Tavern closes its doors for good tonight (and this has been confirmed by folks on Facebook yesterday and today.]

The address for the Quencher Tavern is 170 I Street, Boston, MA, 02127.
