The Bagel Table to Open in Wayland

A growing local group of bagel shops is expanding once again, this time to a mixed-use development in the western suburbs of Boston.

According to a source, The Bagle Table is planning to open at Wayland Town Center in Wayland, with the shop taking over the space where a location of Panera Bread had been. Our source indicates that the new location will offer a variety of freshly-made bagels and cream cheeses, while the 3,900-square-foot space will include a "Gathering Gallery" that can be reserved for events, workshops, and more.

Once the Wayland outlet of The Bagel Table opens, it will join two others in Ashland and Chestnut Hill, and a third is also opening soon at Boston Landing in Brighton.

The website for The Bagel Table can be found at https://mybageltable.com/

[January 9 update: A Patch article indicates that the Wayland location of The Bagel Table plans to open on January 15. (Thanks to a source for bringing this to our attention.)]

[January 15 update: A source tells us that The Bagel Table will actually be opening in Wayland in the spring, not today as the above article had said (the article has since fixed that information).]

Coach Grill in Wayland Reopens After Fire in April Forces It To Close

A suburban steakhouse that sustained major damage in a fire a few months ago is open once again.

According to a Facebook post from the place, Coach Grill in Wayland has reopened and is currently taking reservations, with the note saying "Welcome back to Coach Grill. Join us for dinner this week and let us remind you what you've been missing." In mid-April, a blaze that started in the restaurant's refrigeration unit caused both smoke damage and water damage, though no injuries occurred in the two-alarm fire.

Coach Grill traces its roots back to the 1930s when a restaurant called the Red Coach Grill opened up at the site. That dining spot was destroyed in a blaze in the late 1970s, and Coach Grill eventually was built where the Red Coach Grill had once been.

The address for Coach Grill is 55 Boston Post Road, Wayland, MA, 01778. Its website is at http://coachgrill.com/

110 Grill Is Opening in Wayland

A group of upscale New American restaurants located north and west of Boston will be opening its closest one yet to the city, replacing another dining spot that had been in business for nearly 40 years.

According to a job post within the Craigslist site, 110 Grill is opening in Wayland, with an earlier article from the Wayland Town Crier saying that the dining spot will take over the space in Cochituate where J J Mckay's was since the late 1970s. (McKay's closed its doors last summer.) Once it opens, the new location of 110 Grill will join others in Berlin, Chelmsford, Hopkinton, and Nashua, NH, and based on the menus at those eateries, it appears that the restaurant will feature modern American food in a trendy but casual space.

The address for this new restaurant in Wayland is: 110 Grill, 171 Commonwealth Road, Wayland, MA, 01778. The website for its other locations can be found at http://www.110grill.com/

[August 15 update: The Wayland Patch is reporting that the new location of 110 Grill in Wayland officially opens tomorrow (Tuesday, August 16) at 3:30 PM.]

An upscale steakhouse in the western suburbs of Boston is closed for the time being after being hit by a two-alarm fire over the weekend.

The MetroWest Daily News is reporting that Coach Grill in Wayland suffered major damage in a blaze that started in a refrigeration unit in the kitchen, with the Boston Road restaurant sustaining both smoke damage and water damage. Initially, it appeared that the dining spot sustained approximately $200,000 in damages and might be closed for at least a week, but a more recent article in the Wayland Patch says that the place could be shuttered for two to three weeks. Coach Grill was not open at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported, according to the Daily News.

Pizza Shop Owner Accused of Trying to Recruit Former Worker for Prostitution

The owner of a popular pizza place in the western suburbs of Boston is out on bail after being arraigned for allegedly trying to get a woman who used to work at the shop to have sex with married men in return for money.

According to an article on the WCVB site, police have charged Michael Giakoumakis of Liberty Pizza in Wayland of attempting to recruit a former worker of the Main Street pizzeria for prostitution, with Lincoln police working with Wayland police on the arrest of the Framingham native. Giakoumakis is free on $500 case bail following his district court arraignment earlier this week.

CBS Boston mentions that Liberty Pizza is a "fixture" in the town, and that Lincoln police were called in to help because a number of police officers in Wayland eat at the pizza spot and know the owners.

Giakoumakis is scheduled to be back in court March 10 to face the charges against him.

The address for Liberty Pizza is 116 Main Street, Wayland, MA, 01778.

Update: The Owners of Lineage and 28 Degrees Are NOT Opening a New Restaurant in Wayland

[Ed note: This article was updated on May 31 to reflect the fact that this restaurant will not be opening after all.]

Yesterday, we reported that it was looking like the owners of two upscale Boston-area restaurants were teaming up to open a new spot in Wayland. Now we have learned that this won't be happening.

An article in the The Wayland Town Crier that mentioned Carl Christian of 28 Degrees in Boston's South End and Jeremy Sewall of Lineage in Brookline planning to open a new eatery in the former Finnerty's Country Squire space turns out to be an old post, though it had somehow entered Google news yesterday as a new story. We apologize for the error. (Sewall is also involved with Eastern Standard, The Hawthorne, and Island Creek Oyster Bar in Kenmore Square, along with the upcoming Row 34 in Fort Point.)

The Local in West Newton Is Expanding to Wayland and Wellesley

A West Newton gastropub that features regional foods and beers is going to be opening at least two more locations west of Boston.

The Boston Globe is reporting that Frank Santo, who owns The Local on Washington Street, plans to open restaurants in Wayland and Wellesley, with the former being in the Town Center Development and the latter being in the Forest Street space where China Sky had been. While the Wayland and Wellesley locations are the only ones confirmed (with Wayland possibly opening June 1 and Wellesley possibly opening next winter), the article says that more locations of The Local could open as well, with one proposed for somewhere north of Boston at some point.

The new Wayland and Wellesley locations will have slightly expanded menus, according to the Globe.

[March 29 update: According to an article in the Wayland Town Crier, The Local in Wayland is one step closer to opening, as the town has approved a full liquor license for the place. The article also says that the 6,000-square-foot dining spot will have a capacity of 90 in its dining room, another 96 in its bar, and 14 in a seasonal outdoor patio.]

[September 27 update: According to a poster on the Chowhound site (and confirmed by the restaurant's website), the Wayland location of The Local is now open.]

[November 26 update: A Facebook post from The Local indicates that the Wellesley location is now open as well.]

The website for The Local can be found at http://thelocalnewton.com/

Primebar Grill to Open in Wayland

A new restaurant and bar is coming to Wayland, moving into the space recently vacated by an Italian dining spot.

Based on information given on a number of online job posts (including one on the Craigslist site), Primebar Grill is going to be opening on Boston Post Road (Route 20), replacing Luigi's Italian Grille, which closed last week. It appears that Primebar Grill will be an upscale restaurant, possibly with American fare, though we are still waiting to see a menu for the place.

The now-closed Luigi's in Wayland had been part of a local restaurant group that is behind such eateries as Grassfields in Waltham, Danvers, and Andover, Jimmy's Steer House in Arlington and Saugus, and Cafe Luigi in Bedford. Several sources have mentioned that the new restaurant moving into the old Luigi's spot in Wayland might be connected with this group, but the job posts state that Primebar Grill will be privately owned and operated. (We will try to find more information on Primebar Grill over the coming days.)

The address for this upcoming dining spot in Wayland will be: Primebar Grill, 131 Boston Post Road, Wayland, MA, 01778. The website will be at: http://primebarwayland.com/

Luigi's Italian Grille In Wayland Is Closing

An Italian restaurant in Wayland that is part of a group of restaurants with locations around the Boston area is closing its doors, possibly as early as this weekend.

A phone call placed to one of the dining spots run by Burlington-based American Food Systems has confirmed that Luigi's Italian Grille, which is located on Route 20 between Wayland Center and the Weston border, is going to be shutting down, though the person we talked to didn't know the exact closing date. A poster on the Chowhound site mentioned that Luigi's may be closing after Mother's Day (this coming Sunday), but we are still trying to confirm this. [May 14 update: We just confirmed that Luigi's in Wayland is now closed.]

Based on the Chowhound post (as well as a post on Yelp), it appears that American Food Systems may be opening another restaurant in the space where Luigi's currently resides. A Yelp poster mentioned that Grassfields (another American Food Systems restaurant) may be moving into the spot, but this has not been confirmed, either.

Luigi's Italian Grille has featured classic Southern Italian and Italian-American fare in a family-friendly environment over the years. Their menu has included a variety of pasta dishes as well as veal, chicken, beef, and seafood entrees. The company behind Luigi's Italian Grille also runs Cafe Luigi in Bedford as well as Grassfields in Waltham, Danvers, and Andover, and Jimmy's Steer House in Arlington and Saugus.

Viva Mexican Grill and Tequileria Opens in Wayland

A new Mexican restaurant has come to the western suburbs of Boston, and the person behind the place is the owner of another Mexican spot closer to Boston. According to a poster on the Chowhound site, Viva Mexican Grill and Tequileria recently opened in the Cochituate neighborhood of Wayland, in the space on East Plain Street where Morn's Thai Restaurant used to be. The owner of Viva is also the owner of Jose's Mexican restaurant, an eatery on Sherman Street in Cambridge that has been around for a number of years.

The menu at Viva Mexican Grill and Tequileria features a mix of Mexican-American and traditional Mexican fare, including burritos, quesadillas, chimichangas, enchiladas, tostadas, flautas, fajitas, tacos, and tamales. A few of the more interesting-sounding entrees include an oven-steamed tilapia with shrimp, onions, tomatoes, and epazote; lamb seasoned with guajillo and pasilla peppers and wrapped in banana leaves; and roasted and grilled cactus roasted in chipotle sauce.

The address for this Mexican dining spot in Cochituate is: Viva Mexican Grill and Tequileria, 15 East Plain Street, Wayland, MA, 01778. The phone number is (508) 651-3300. And the website is at: http://vivamexicangrill.com/wordpress/
