Eva's Little Kitchen in Bedford Is Opening a New Location in West Concord

A bakery-cafe in the northwest suburbs of Boston is being by a new location west of the city.

According to a post from boston.com, Eva's Little Kitchen in Bedford is planning to expand to West Concord, moving into a space on Commonwealth Avenue on the western edge of the commercial strip. Based on the location on Great Road in Bedford, expect to see pastries, cookies sandwiches, coffee, tea, lemonade, and more at the new shop. A specific opening date hasn't been given as of yet, but it looks like it will open sometime early this year.

West Village Tavern Is Opening in the Former 99 Restaurant & Pub Space in West Concord

A new restaurant and bar is on its way to the western suburbs, and it will be moving into a space that had been home to a location of a regional chain.

An email sent to us confirms what a poster within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page told us, that West Village Tavern is opening in West Concord in the former 99 Restaurant & Pub space on Commonwealth Avenue. The email says that the upcoming dining and drinking spot will be part of the Wellesley Restaurant Group, which runs The Local Kitchen & Drinks in Waltham, Wayland, and Wellesley, along with Casa Loca Cantina in Westwood, and it plans to open sometime in August.

A look at the menu for West Village Tavern indicates that it will offer such items as stuffed clams, eggplant rollatini, French dip, steak tips, BBQ pork ribs, pan-seared haddock, Korean beef bowls, truffled gnocchi, and more.

Locations of 99 Restaurant & Pub in Braintree and West Concord to Close

A family-friendly chain of restaurants with local roots will be closing two locations in the Greater Boston area.

According to posters within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page, the 99 Restaurant & Pub in both Braintree and West Concord are closing, with a message from the company confirming this, saying that their last day in operation will be Saturday, November 21. We have also been told that locations in Seekonk and Worcester (East Central Street) will be shutting down, though it appears that other outlets in the region will remain in operation.

The 99 Restaurant & Pub is headquartered in Woburn and has more than 100 locations in New England and New York, with most being in Massachusetts. The dining spots are known for such items as wings, steak tips, burgers, fish and chips, macaroni and cheese, and country fried chicken.

The address for the 99 in Braintree is 250B Granite Street (South Shore Plaza) while the address for the location in West Concord is 13 Commonwealth Avenue. The website for all locations can be found at https://www.99restaurants.com/

Woods Hill Table Owner Opening Adelita in Vincenzo's Space in West Concord

Earlier this month, we mentioned that a suburban restaurant that has been serving Italian dishes for 20 years was planning to close. Now we have learned that a new dining spot is taking over the space, and that the owner of a nearby eatery is behind it.

According to a post in the Concord Journal, Adelita is planning to open in West Concord, moving into the space on Main Street where Vincenzo's Restaurant currently resides. The article says that Kristin Canty of the farm-to-table spot Woods Hill Table on Commonwealth Avenue will run the new place, which will feature Mexican cuisine.

Vincenzo's closes at the end of September after being in business since 1997.

The address for Vincenzo's (and the new Adelita) is 1200 Main Street, West Concord, MA, 01742.

Vincenzo's Restaurant in West Concord Is Closing

A suburban restaurant that has been serving up Italian food for 20 years is closing its doors.

According to an article from the Concord Journal, Vincenzo's Restaurant in West Concord is planning to shut down for good around the end of September, with owner Vincent Cicerchia saying that he has been thinking about closing the Main Street dining spot over the past four or five months and that he ultimately decided to shutter it in order to spend more time with his family. Vincenzo's, which first opened in 1997, is known for its mix of classic and modern Italian fare, including such items as stuffed olives, mussels, arancini, lasagna, ravioli, cioppino, veal piccata, and chicken parmigiana.

Saltbox Kitchen in West Concord to Start Brewing Beer

A farm-to-table restaurant west of Boston will soon be doing something that should make beer lovers happy.

Eater Boston is reporting that Saltbox Kitchen in West Concord plans to add a brewery component to its Commonwealth Avenue space and is currently doing a Kickstarter campaign in order to raise $30,000 in funds for beermaking equipment and ingredients. The article says that if all goes as planned, the dining spot could be offering such options as IPAs, pale ales, and farmhouse ales, and it will make beers using fruits, herbs, honey, and spices from its farm (Saltbox Farm) on the other side of Concord. In addition to serving its beers at the restaurant, Saltbox Kitchen will also allow customers to fill up growlers at the eatery, though the beers will not be sold outside of the eatery, according to EB.

Saltbox Kitchen first opened in July of 2015.

Two Farm-to-Table Restaurants Coming to West Concord

Last summer, we reported that a farm-to-table restaurant was planning to open in West Concord, and now we have learned that not one, but two such dining spots (which will be unrelated) will be opening in this section of town.

The Concord Journal is reporting that Woods Hill Table will be opening in the Commonwealth Avenue space where the West Concord Supermarket had been, while Saltbox Kitchen will also be opening on the same street nearby. The article says that the former will be run by Kristin Canty, who owns a farm in Bath, NH, while the latter will be owned by Ben Elliott, who has worked in restaurants in both San Francisco and Boston (including No. 9 Park).

It appears that Woods Hill Table and Saltbox Kitchen could both be opening sometime in the fall.

[October 16 update: According to a job post within the Craigslist site, Woods Hill Table will be a 150-seat restaurant that features organic and locally-sourced foods.]

[January 5, 2015 update: A post in The Boston Globe indicates that Saltbox Kitchen will be a 15-seat restaurant and microbrewery that is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.]

Farm-to-Table Restaurant Proposed for Former West Concord Supermarket Space

It looks like a farm-to-table restaurant could be on its way to West Concord, opening in the space where a supermarket had been for nearly a century.

The Concord Journal is reporting that Kristin and Jim Canty are planning to open a dining spot at the site of the former West Concord Supermarket, with the proposed eatery using ingredients from "as many local farms as it can" and having 156 seats inside the place, with 20 more seats on an outdoor deck. The article mentions that plans for the dining spot have been submitted to the town, with the Cantys appearing before the Concord Planning Board in September to continue discussing the plans.

Reasons to be Cheerful Is Opening in West Concord

A new dessert cafe and ice cream shop is going to be opening in West Concord, possibly as early as the end of this month.

According to The Boston Globe, a common victualer’s license has been awarded to Reasons to be Cheerful, allowing them to open in the Gatehouse building on Commonwealth Avenue. An earlier Concord Patch article mentioned that the new place will feature 28 ice cream flavors as well as frozen yogurt, pastries, crepes, and coffee.

The Globe article states that Reasons to be Cheerful is looking at a late June or early July opening. [June 28 update: According to a poster on the Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook page (and confirmed on the cafe's site), Reasons to Be Cheerful is now open.]

After Fire, Dino’s Pizzeria to Open Once Again in West Concord

More than three years after a pizzeria and sandwich place in West Concord was destroyed in a fire, plans are now in place for the spot to reopen, and it will apparently have an expanded menu.

According to the Concord Journal and Wicked Local, Dino's Pizzeria is looking to open once again on Main Street where it once was until a lightning bolt destroyed the building in which it was located in the spring of 2007. The article states that the new building that is being constructed will house Dino's and Concord Nails, and there will be some office space up above. It appears that construction could be done sometime in the late winter of 2011.

The article mentions that Dino's, which originally featured pizza, calzones, and sandwiches, will have an updated menu that will also include some Greek and Italian entrees as well. The new space will apparently look like more of a restaurant than a sub shop or pizza joint, with hardwood floors and an open kitchen.

If it keeps the same address as before, the address for Dino's will be: Dino's Pizzeria, 1135 Main Street, Concord, MA, 01742.
