Blank Street Coffee Is Opening in Cambridge's Harvard Square on November 16

A growing group of coffee shops and coffee carts based in New York City will soon be opening a fourth outlet in the local area, nearly a year after it was first announced.

According to a press release, Blank Street Coffee is slated to open in Cambridge on November 16, moving into a space on Mass. Ave. in Harvard Square that had previously been home to a location of Starbucks. The new location will join others locally on Boylston Street in the Back Bay, Charles Street in Beacon Hill, and Cambridge Street also in Beacon Hill, along with others in Manhattan, Brooklyn (where it started out), and elsewhere.

Blank Street Coffee Plans to Open a New Outlet in Cambridge

A NYC-based group of coffee shops and coffee carts that recently opened its first three Boston locations is going to be opening its first outlet in Cambridge.

According to an article from Cambridge Day, Blank Street Coffee is planning to open in Harvard Square, moving into a space on Mass. Ave. that had once been home to a Starbucks. Once it opens, the new location of Blank Street will join two others in Boston's Beacon Hill neighborhood and another in the Back Bay along with others in Manhattan, Brooklyn (where it started out), Washington, D.C., and London.

Marylou's Opens in Waltham

A local chain of coffee shops whose locations are south of Boston has opened its first outlet in the western suburbs.

According to a source, Marylou's is now open in Waltham, with a Facebook post from the business indicating that it resides within the Seasons Corner Market at the Shell Station on Waverly Oaks Road. The new location joins a number of others in the southern suburbs of Boston, Cape Cod, and in Rhode Island, with its closest outlet to the western suburbs until now being in Westwood. (Marylou's started out in Hanover in 1986.)

Caffe Nero Temporarily Closes All of Its Locations

A rapidly-growing chain of European coffee places that has opened a large number of shops in the Boston area over the past several years has shut down all of its outlets for now.

According to a source (Geoff Wong), Caffe Nero has decided to close every location in the region, with a Facebook post from the company saying the following:

It is with a heavy heart that we have taken the decision to temporarily close all Caffe Nero stores until further notice. We have, over the last 6 years, dedicated ourselves to serving our local communities, but in the face of this unprecedented challenge that is continually unfolding, we have to ensure the safety and well-being of our baristas, customers and communities. As such, we must close our doors.

The decision to shutter all of the Caffe Nero shops is the result of the ongoing Coronavirus crisis, which has seen states across the country--including all six New England states--shut down restaurants except for takeout and/or delivery. As mentioned in previous articles here, a number of dining spots in the Greater Boston area have already closed for the time being, while others have decided to try takeout/delivery options.

Caffe Nero debuted in Boston in 2014 with its Downtown Crossing shop and now has stores all over the local area along with one in Connecticut. The website for the company can be found at https://caffenero.com/us/

Caffe Nero Is Opening at Copley Place

A rapidly-growing chain of European coffee places is opening yet another shop in the Boston area, and this one will be coming to a high-end shopping area in one of the busiest parts of the city.

According to a press release, Caffe Nero is opening at Copley Place in the Back Bay, moving into a space  next to Neiman Marcus on the main level. Since arriving in Boston in 2014 with a Downtown Crossing shop, the chain has opened a number of outlets in and around the city, with its latest coming to the Porter Square Hotel in Cambridge a couple of months ago.

If all goes as planned, the new location of Caffe Nero could open at Copley Place in September.

Caffe Nero Is Opening within the Hotel 1868 in Cambridge's Porter Square

A rapidly-growing chain of European coffee places is opening yet another shop in the local area, with this one coming to a brand new hotel in Cambridge.

According to a license commission page within the city's website, Caffe Nero is opening within the Hotel 1868 in Porter Square, while an earlier article from Cambridge Day mentioned that this will be the second location of the chain in the city, joining another outlet in Central Square. Hotel 1868, which debuted last fall, is the second new hotel to come to the Porter Square area, as the Porter Square Hotel opened on the other side of the square in 2016--and that hotel is now home to a new French restaurant called Colette which opened earlier this year.

Blue Bottle Coffee Is Opening on Newbury Street in the Back Bay

It looks like a California-based coffee roaster is opening another new cafe in the local area, and this one would be on one of Boston's busiest streets.

According to a licensing board hearing page within the city's website, Blue Bottle Coffee is planning to open on Newbury Street in the Back Bay, moving into a space between Dartmouth Street and Exeter Street. If approved, the new cafe--which would have an outdoor patio--would join others in downtown Boston, at the Prudential Center, and in Cambridge's Harvard Square, along with a new shop in the Kendall Square section of Cambridge [ed note--now open].

The Oakland-based Blue Bottle Coffee is considered to be part of the "third-wave" of specialty coffee shops that focus on high-quality beans.

Blue Bottle Coffee Is Opening in Cambridge's Kendall Square

A California-based coffee roaster that has opened three locations in the Boston area over the past year or so is planning to open a fourth, with this one coming to a red-hot part of Cambridge.

According to a license commission hearing agenda page within the city's website, Blue Bottle Coffee is looking to open a new shop in Kendall Square, with the Ames Street outlet having seating for 20, a total capacity of 40, and the setup being an open space with seating in the front and a kitchen area in the back. If its plans are approved by the city and it does open in the space, the new location of Blue Bottle would join others in Harvard Square, downtown Boston, and the Prudential Center.

Blue Bottle Coffee, whose headquarters are in Oakland, is considered part of the "third-wave" of specialty coffee shops that focus on high-quality beans.
