Madras Dosa Co. to Open at The Street Chestnut Hill

A fast-casual Indian restaurant with two locations in the Boston area will be opening a third, and this one will be a few miles west of the city.

According to a Threads post from @daryldonatelli, Madras Dosa Co. is planning to open at The Street Chestnut Hill, with this being confirmed in a Facebook post from the business which says, "Dosa, don’t mind if we do. @madrasdosaco is coming soon to The Street. This South Indian spot will be your go-to for dosa, chaats, pulaos, & more. Keep your eyes (and appetites) open for more details on opening." The Threads post mentions that the restaurant will apparently be going into the space where a location of The Bagel Table had been for approximately 7 years before recently shutting down.

Other locations of Madras Dosa Co. can be found in Boston's Seaport District and Harvard Square in Cambridge, along with others in New York City and New Jersey. The website for all locations is at https://madrasdosaco.com/

Godavari in Framingham Has Closed

A small chain of Indian restaurants that had a pair of locations in the Greater Boston area is now just down to one locally.

According to a post from the Framingham Source, Godavari in Framingham has closed permanently, with the Worcester Road space now being up for lease. The dining spot, which was known in part for its South Indian fare including dosas, first opened in early 2017, joining another outlet in Woburn that debuted in the latter part of 2016; another offshoot of the chain called Godavari Mini opened in Somerville's Union Square in 2018, but it shut down after only a brief time in business. (Other locations of the chain are scattered across the country, including one in Cumberland, RI.)

Peppino's Dosa Is Opening in Waltham

An Indian spot is on its way to Waltham's "restaurant row," and it will be moving into a space that a never-opened Indian restaurant first started looking at nearly 10 years ago.

According to a tweet from @y2000k (who shared a Twitter post from @RLoganW9), Peppino's Dosa is coming to Moody Street, with an earlier legal notice confirming that it will be opening where a location of Dosa Factory had been planning to take over since at least 2010, but never did. (The original Dosa Factory can be found in Cambridge's Central Square.) The sign out front indicates that Peppino's Dosa will be a vegetarian and vegan spot, though it is not yet known what they may offer in addition to dosas (if anything).

[February 18, 2020 update: Peppino's Dosa now has a Facebook page up, and while an opening date has not been set, the page says that the restaurant will be "coming soon."]

[March 4, 2020 update: A tweet from @JeremyKrantz indicates that Peppino's Dosa opens on March 10, with a check on the restaurant's website confirming this, while also saying that it will indeed be a vegetarian spot that features Indian fare.]

Dosa Factory in Boston's Back Bay Has Closed

It looks like an Indian restaurant in the Back Bay has very quietly shut down.

According to an article in Eater Boston, Dosa Factory on Newbury Street is closed, with "For Lease" signs displayed in the windows of the space. It appears that the dining spot may actually have shuttered over the past few months, though it is not known exactly when its last day in operation was. The original location of Dosa Factory in Cambridge's Central Square remains open, while an outlet on Moody Street in Waltham that has been in the works for a number of years now is still not open--and there has been no news of late on that location.

The Newbury Street location of Dosa Factory first opened in early 2015, taking over the space where Steve's Greek Cuisine had been.

Dosa Factory Is Opening in the Former Steve's Space in Boston's Back Bay

An Indian dining spot in Cambridge is planning to open on one of Boston's best-known streets--and it will be moving into the space that once housed an old-fashioned Greek eatery.

Eater Boston is reporting that Dosa Factory in Central Square is opening within the former Steve's Greek Cuisine space on Newbury Street in the Back Bay. (Steve's closed this past March after being in business since the 1980s.) Once it opens, expect to see an array of dosas and, if the menu is similar to the Cambridge one, a wide variety of other Indian fare.

On a side note, it is not known for sure if a Waltham location of Dosa Factory is still in the works (that one has been five years in the making now), though EB hints that it may just be.
