A new dining spot that will apparently feature falafel is on its way to Allston.
According to a source (Sarah Wu), Falafellas is planning to open on Commonwealth Avenue, with photos sent to us indicating that it may be moving onto the ground floor of the storefront that is also home to Habibi's Lounge. One of the pictures shows a sign saying "How Do You Like Your Fellas?" while to the right it says "Boston Falafel House." No other information has been given other than from an earlier City of Boston hearing notice mentioning that it will have cafeteria-style seating and that Simon Boulos is the manager; as soon as we find out more, we will post an update here.
There is a restaurant in the Times Square section of Manhattan that is called Fala Fellas, though it appears that it has no connection to the one coming to Allston.
The address for Falafellas in Allston will be 1217A Commonwealth Avenue, Allston, MA, 02134. Its website is at https://www.falafellas.com/
[February 28 update: According to a source, Falafellas is now open in Allston, and based on its website, the restaurant offers a variety of falafel-based options.]

Amsterdam Falafelshop in Somerville's Davis Square Is Closing
by Marc Hurwitz
What was once a growing group of falafel shops will soon be disappearing from the Boston-area landscape.
According to a Facebook post, Amsterdam Falafelshop in the Davis Square section of Somerville is shutting down on March 30, with the note saying that "It's with great sadness that we announce the closing of Amsterdam Falafelshop in Davis Square....Please take advantage of the last few weeks of service and come into the store early and often, order catering platters for your local events, and please tip our loyal staff a little extra as they transition to new ventures. We are off to new ventures with family and business and will never forget our time in Davis Square." The Somerville closure will mean that no more locations of the Washington, DC-based group of eateries will be in the region, as the Kenmore Square shop closed in early 2017 and other locations that were being planned never came to be. (At one point early on, it looked like four Boston-area locations in addition to the Somerville shop--which first opened in 2012--were being planned.)
Other locations of Amsterdam Falafelshop in Washington, DC (three) and South Miami (one) remain in operation.
The address for the soon-to-close Amsterdam Falafelshop in Davis Square is 248 Elm Street, Somerville, MA, 02144. The website for all locations can be found at https://www.falafelshop.com/

Amsterdam Falafelshop in Boston's Kenmore Square Has Closed
A pair of falafel shops in the Boston area is back down to one, as its newer location has shut down.
According to an article in The Daily Free Press, Amsterdam Falafelshop in Kenmore Square has closed, with owner Matt D'Alessio, citing a "dry business environment" as the reason why the Beacon Street eatery shuttered. The post mentions that the shop was unable to "integrate itself into Boston University's dining plans," and that real estate development nearby apparently caused a dropoff in foot traffic at the site of the place. The location of Amsterdam Falafelshop in Somerville's Davis Square remains open for business.
Amsterdam Falafelshop, which is based in Washington, DC, has a total of five locations, including the Somerville shop, three stores in DC, and one in Dallas.
The address for this now-closed falafel shop in Kenmore Square was: Amsterdam Falafelshop, 642 Beacon Street, Boston, MA, 02215. The website for the other shops can be found at http://www.falafelshop.com/
Thanks to a source for initially bringing this to our attention.

Update: Wrapro Falafel and Grille to Replace Sabra Grill in Cambridge's Harvard Square
[Ed note: This article was updated on December 10 to reflect confirmation of which space Wrapro is taking over.]
It looks like a quick-service eatery located between Cambridge's Porter Square and Harvard Square is planning to open a location in Harvard Square itself, and it may be replacing another dining spot.
According to a License Commission General Hearing page within the city of Cambridge website, Wrapro Falafel & Grille on Mass. Ave. is looking to open a shop on Eliot Street (apparently moving into the space where Sabra Grill is), with the new place having seating for 10 and proposed hours from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM Monday through Saturday and 12:00 PM to 10:00 PM on Sundays. It is not yet known whether this is a move for Wrapro or a second location; as soon as we find out, we will post an update here.
[December 10 update: According to a poster on the Chowhound site, Sabra Grill is now closed and the windows now show decals for Wrapro; a call placed to Sabra indicates that its phone is out of service, and a check on its website shows that it may have been hacked. (The Manta site notes that Sabra had been in the space since 1997.)]
[February 4, 2016 update: Eater Boston states that Wrapro is now open in the former Sabra Grill space, and it is indeed a second location of the eatery.]
Wrapro Falafel & Grille offers a variety of wraps and plates, including chicken shawarma, falafel, hummus, tabouli, baba ghannouj, kofta kabob, and more.
The address for the new Wrapro (and Sabra Grill) is 20 Eliot Street, Cambridge, MA, 02138. The website for the original Wrapro on Mass. Ave. can be found at http://wrapro.co/

A Washington, DC-based falafel shop that currently has two locations in the Boston area is planning to open a third.
An article in The Buffalo News today confirms what a post from All Points PR mentioned back in June, that a third location of Amsterdam Falafelshop is in development somewhere in or around Boston. In addition to the upcoming Boston-area shop, the group of eateries is also looking to open additional outlets in the Buffalo area as well as in Dallas, Miami, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C.
As soon as we find out an exact address for the third Boston-area location of Amsterdam Falafelshop (and when it might open), we will post an update here.
Amsterdam Falafelshop first opened in Somerville's Davis Square in July of 2012, with a second shop opening in the Kenmore Square section of Boston in March of this year. Its website can be found at http://www.falafelshop.com/

Amsterdam Falafelshop Is Opening in Boston's Kenmore Square
Last year we reported that a Washington, DC-based falafel shop that has a location in Somerville was planning on opening a few more shops in the Boston area. Now we have learned where one of them will be.
Eater Boston is reporting that Amsterdam Falafelshop is going to be opening in Kenmore Square, moving into the Beacon Street space where a location of Boca Grande had been until closing last summer. The article says that this shop will have approximately twice the seating of the location on Elm Street in Davis Square, with the eatery looking to open later this year. Expect to see such items as falafel, salads, fries, and chips at the new store.
[February 26, 2015 update: A new article from Eater Boston says (via the restaurant's Twitter page) that the Kenmore Square location of Amsterdam Falafelshop is waiting on what appears to be final inspections; as soon as they get the green light to open, we will post another update here.]
