Eat Greek Gyros Is Opening in the Former Out of the Blue Space in Somerville's Davis Square

A new Greek eatery is on its way to Somerville, and it will take over the space where an Italian seafood restaurant had been.

According to a source, Eat Greek Gyros is opening in Davis Square, moving into the former Out of the Blue space on Elm Street. A menu seen for the upcoming spot shows such options as gyros, souvlaki, octopus, halloumi, rice bowls, fries, and a variety of salads, along with beer, wine, and cocktails. No opening date has been given as of yet, so stay tuned for updates as they come in.

Out of the Blue closed down earlier this year after being in business for nearly 25 years.

The Gyro Spot in Stoneham Has Closed

A trio of fast-casual Greek dining spots appear to be down to two now, as its closest outlet to Boston has shuttered.

According to a poster within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook page, The Gyro Spot in Stoneham is no longer in business, with the Facebook post from the Montvale Avenue restaurant showing a "permanently closed" label. No reason has been given for its closure, nor is it known what might become of the space; if we find out more information, we will post an update here.

The Stoneham location of The Gyro Spot first opened in the summer of 2022, offering a variety of gyros as well as salads, soups, rice bowls, fries, spreads with pita bread, and desserts. Locations of the dining spot in Salem, MA, and Manchester, NH, remain in operation.

The Greek Gyro to Open in the Former Gyro City Space in Boston's Fenway

A brand new Greek dining spot is on its way to Boston, opening where a location of another Greek restaurant had been.

According to a job post within the Craigslist site, The Greek Gyro is going to be opening in the city's Fenway neighborhood, moving into the space on Peterborough Street that had been home to Gyro City until it closed earlier this year. No other information on the upcoming place has been given other than the fact that it plans to open in October.

Another location of Gyro City in Brighton remains in operation.

Boston Pizza & Gyro Replaces Yassou in Arlington Heights

A takeout spot in the northwest suburbs that offered Greek fare has been replaced by a new place that also serves some Greek dishes.

According to a source (Karin Turer), Yassou in Arlington Heights is no longer in business, with the Mass. Ave. eatery being replaced by Boston Pizza & Gyro. The menu for the new spot includes gyros, shish kebab, lamb chops, spinach pie, pizza, calzones, pasta dishes, subs, baklava, and more.

Yassou first opened in early 2019, moving into the space that had been home to Capri Pizza & Subs while also being home to Charlie's Pizza long ago.

The Gyro Spot Is Opening in Stoneham

A fast-casual Greek eatery that is based in New Hampshire is expanding to the Greater Boston area.

According to a job post within the Craigslist site, The Gyro Spot is planning to open in Stoneham, with the listing indicating that it will be moving into a space on Montvale Avenue just east of Route 93. Based on the menu at the original location of the place in Manchester, the upcoming spot will offer a variety of gyros as well as rice bowls, salads, soups, fries, spreads with pita bread, desserts, and more.

Another location of The Gyro Spot had once been in Dover, NH, as well, but it is no longer in business.

Greco Opens in Boston's Downtown Crossing

A third location of a Greek dining spot that has been in the works for awhile is now open.

According to a tweet from @DTownBostonBID, Greco has opened at One Milk Street in Downtown Crossing, joining two other locations on Newbury Street in the Back Bay and at Pier 4 in the Seaport District. The new outlet offers such options as soups, salads, gyros, lamb chops, bowls, fries, zucchini chips, and more.

Plans for the Downtown Crossing location of Greco, which is located at the corner of Milk Street and Washington Street, were first announced back in the spring of 2019.

GreCo Plans to Open in Boston's Downtown Crossing Area

Last fall, it was learned that a Greek dining spot in the Back Bay was planning to expand to the waterfront. Now we have learned that another outlet is being planned for downtown Boston as well.

According to an article from Boston Magazine, GreCo (which is also known as Gre.co) is planning to open in the city's Downtown Crossing area, moving into a space at the renovated One Milk Street property which is at the corner of Washington Street and Milk Street. Once it opens, the new quick-service gyro shop will join the original location on Newbury Street along with one at Pier 4 in the Seaport District, which is slated to open sometime this summer. [Ed note: The Seaport District location of GreCo is now open.]

GreCo also has a connection to Committee, an upscale Greek and Mediterranean restaurant in the Seaport District.

Opa Greek Yeeros in Somerville's Davis Square Has Reopened

A Greek restaurant in Somerville that mysteriously shut down a few weeks ago is open once again.

A check on the place over the weekend indicated that Opa Greek Yeeros in Davis Square planned to reopen on September 26, with a post on the Davis Square LiveJournal page confirming that it has indeed opened back up again. In early September, we had reported that the Highland Avenue spot had quietly closed its doors and that its chef (who was also a partner in the business) apparently left to open a bagel spot in Nashua, NH.

Opa first opened its doors in April in the space where Kickass Cupcakes had been.

Opa Greek Yeeros in Somerville's Davis Square Has Closed; Future of the Place Unknown

A Greek dining spot in Somerville has closed after only a few months in business, and it is not known for sure if/when it might reopen again.

According to a Facebook thread within the Davis Square group, Opa Greek Yeeros is currently closed, with calls placed to the eatery ringing with no voicemail and no one answering, while the Highland Avenue spot has been designated as "permanently closed" in a Google search for the restaurant. One of the posters within the thread who is apparently involved in the Somerville government also says that Opa has shut down for good, though we are still trying to get complete confirmation on this. (Another poster said that there is a "closed for vacation" sign out front.)

Opa Greek Yeeros first opened in April in the space where Kickass Cupcakes had once been, offering traditional Greek gyros as well as items such as spanakopita, kebabs, and baklava.

The address for Opa is 378 Highland Avenue, Somerville, MA, 02144.

The Halal Guys to Expand to the Boston Area

A legendary group of restaurants and carts based in New York City is planning a major expansion, and the Boston area is included in its plans.

Eater Boston is reporting that The Halal Guys announced a deal that will bring six locations to Boston along with a total of more than 200 others in the United States and beyond. The article says that the franchise consulting firm Fransmart--which also works with the expansions of Five Guys and Qdoba--will be bringing shops to Philadelphia, Washington, DC, and Atlanta as well.

The Halal Guys, which first started out in 1990 as a food cart, offers such items as chicken platters with rice, falafel sandwiches, hummus, and baklava; they currently have three carts and two restaurants in Manhattan, along with a cart in Long Island City and restaurants in Chicago and Costa Mesa, CA. Gyro City Opens in the Fenway's "Restaurant Row" in Boston

A new dining spot has opened in the Fenway's "restaurant row," with this one being an authentic Greek grill.

A Facebook post from El Pelon Taqueria indicates that Gyro City is now open on Peterborough Street, with its first day in operation apparently being yesterday. A check on the restaurant's website indicates that the place offers several gyro options on its menu, including chicken, veggie, pork, lamb, and sausage, along with salads, avgolemono soup, spanakopita, burgers, souvlaki, and baklava.

Gyro City is open from 10:30 AM to 11:00 PM daily.

Flame Cafe Is Opening in Boston's Financial District

It looks like a new takeout spot is coming to the Financial District of Boston.

According to a job post on the Craigslist site, Flame Cafe is planning to open on Oliver Street, with the post mentioning that the eatery will be a new "Gyros place." The spot has a website, though it is currently under construction.

There doesn't appear to be a specific opening date for Flame Cafe at this point in time; as soon as we find out when it might open, we will post an update here.
