Noodle Lab Reopens at Boston Public Market

A noodle spot in downtown Boston has very quietly opened back up.

According to a source, Noodle Lab is open once again at Boston Public Market, with a licensing board page within the city's website confirming this while a Reddit thread mentions that it reopened about a week ago. The business, which debuted in 2015 with the opening of the marketplace, offers ramen dishes, rice bowls, and such small bites as gyoza, bao, and wontons.

The website for Noodle Lab can be found at https://noodlelabboston.com/

Noodle BOS Plans to Open in Cambridge's Kendall Square

An Asian noodle spot that had been located in a downtown Boston food hall appears to be reopening in a new location in Cambridge.

According to a post from @jgmahoney, Noodle BOS is planning to open in Kendall Square, moving into a space on Main Street by Wadsworth Street and across from where Broadway meets Main. It looks like this is the same Noodle BOS that used to reside in High Street Place, and based on that one, the new location could be offering such options as ramen, udon, and more.

The new location of Noodle BOS is slated to open sometime in the spring of 2024.

It appears that the address for the upcoming location of Noodle BOS in Kendall Square is 238 Main Street, though we will try to confirm this.

NOTE: We need your help, as Leslie Hurwitz, who is the father of Marc (the founder of this site) is dealing with health issues and some major related expenses. Please donate at https://gofund.me/76d8ba28, thanks!

Ten Second Yunnan Rice Noodle Is Opening in the Former China King Space in Boston's Chinatown

A new restaurant featuring Chinese noodles is on its way to downtown Boston, replacing a highly-rated Chinese spot that is looking for a new home.

According to a source (Geoff Wong), Ten Second Yunnan Rice Noodle is opening in Chinatown, moving into the space on Beach Street where China King had been. A picture of the sign for the eatery looks somewhat similar to a restaurant in the Wollaston section of Quincy called Shi Miao Dao, though it has not been confirmed that there is a connection between the two; as soon as we find out more, we will post an update here. While a menu for Ten Second Yunnan Rice Noodle has not been seen yet, the Yunnan province of China--which is in the southwest corner of the country--is known in part for its "crossing-the-bridge noodles," which is a rice noodle soup that can be found in a few Boston-area restaurants including Shi Miao Dao along with Wen's in the Back Bay and downtown Boston.

China King, which closed down around the beginning of the year, was well-known among locals in the Chinatown neighborhood and was also a bit of a haunt for chefs and food writers for its Peking duck, dumplings, and noodle dishes; at the time of its closing, it appeared that the dining spot could end up reopening in another part of Boston or Cambridge, though no news has been given of late.

The address for Ten Second Yunnan Rice Noodle is 60 Beach Street, Boston, MA, 02111.

[June 16 update: A tweet from @FortPointer indicates that Ten Second Yunnan Rice Noodle is now open.]

Soup Shack Plans to Open in Cambridge's Porter Square Area

It looks like a pair of soup places in Jamaica Plain and Brookline could be joined by a third location in a busy part of Cambridge.

An email sent by Leah Klein of City Living Boston states that Soup Shack plans to open on White Street, with the exact address seeming to indicate that it would move into a space in the Porter Square Shopping Center. Based on the offerings at its other locations, the new eatery would likely offer ramen, pho, and Thai noodle soup, while a City of Cambridge license commission page shows that the restaurant would be open for lunch and dinner daily with a seating capacity of 16.

The address for this proposed dining spot in Porter Square is: Soup Shack, 9 White Street, Cambridge, MA, 02140. The website for the other two locations can be found at https://soupshacknoodles.com/

Noodle Bar by Iterum Foods May Be Opening in East Boston

by Marc Hurwitz

It looks like a restaurant featuring all things noodles could be coming to East Boston.

According to an article in Eater Boston, the Noodle Bar by Iterum Foods is hoping to open in the Jeffries Point section of Eastie, with Matthew McPherson (Tiki Rock, Menton, Porto, Craigie on Main, Frogmore, Fairsted Kitchen) currently in lease negotiations for a space on Sumner Street that had once been home to 303 Cafe. Its website indicates that the proposed eatery would be a casual spot that focuses on sustainability and zero waste, featuring a variety of noodle-based dishes with Asian influences--and rice noodles and vegetable noodles would be a couple of options. The Noodle Bar by Iterum Foods plans to be open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and would also have to-go items available.

The website for the Noodle Bar by Iterum Foods is at https://noodlesbyiterum.com/

[November 14 update: Based on social media posts and its website, it looks like Noodle Bar by Iterum Foods could be opening in East Boston later this fall.]

[December 24 update: Eater Boston reports (via an Instagram post from the business) that plans have fallen through for Noodle Bar by Iterum Foods to open on Sumner Street in Jeffries Point, and they are now looking at other locations to open around East Boston.]

Noodles King Has Opened at the Longwood Galleria in Boston

by Marc Hurwitz

A collection of shops and eateries in Boston's Longwood medical area is now home to a new dining spot, and this one focuses on a food item that is becoming increasingly popular in the local area.

According to an article from Eater Boston, Noodles King is now open at the food court within the Longwood Galleria, with the place serving hand-pulled noodles along with some other Chinese dishes. The post mentions that the new eatery is run by the same people behind Dragon Bowl, a Chinese and Japanese spot that is also located in the food court.

Hand-pulled noodles have become hot in the Greater Boston area over the past several years, with such places as Gene's Chinese Flatbread Cafe in Boston and Woburn, Chili Squared in Quincy, Home Taste in Watertown and Arlington, and others offering the dish.

The Longwood Galleria food court can be found at the intersection of Longwood Avenue and Brookline Avenue.

The Soup Shack Is Opening in Jamaica Plain

by Marc Hurwitz

A new place for soup is getting ready to debut in Jamaica Plain, moving into the space where a sushi spot had been.

According to an article in the Jamaica Plain News, the Soup Shack is planning to open on Monday, June 18 on Centre Street in the former Kamado Super Fusion space, with the eatery featuring Thai, Japanese, and Vietnamese soups (including Thai noodle soup, ramen, and pho). This seems to jibe with what we had mentioned in an earlier article, that a noodle shop would be opening in the space, though at the time it looked like its name might be Asian Noodle Soup.

Kamado closed in January after being in business for approximately four years.

The address for this new soup spot in Jamaica Plain is: The Soup Shack, 779 Centre Street, Jamaica Plain, MA, 02130.

Honeygrow to Bring Minigrow Concept to Boston

As reported earlier, a Philadelphia-based group of dining spots specializing in stir-fry dishes has expanded to Boston, and now it will be bringing a new concept to the local area as well.

According to an article in philly.com, the Honeygrow chain is introducing Minigrow this month, with one location of the place coming to Boston along with others in Manhattan and Chicago. The post says that Minigrow will feature a more streamlined menu than Honeygrow while also having an assembly-line system of preparing meals for customers, and the restaurants will use a combi oven (which is a variant of a convection oven), allowing the new concept to open in locations that don't require hoods and outside ventilation systems. (Because of the lack of an extensive ventilation system, the noodle-based dishes offered at Minigrow will not be stir-fried as they are at Honeygrow.)

Currently, one location of Honeygrow can be found in the local area--on Boylston Street in the Fenway--while a second location plans to open in the Seaport District later this month.

The website for Minigrow is at http://minigrow.com/

Update: Yume Ga Arukara Replacing Ittyo Restaurant in Porter Exchange Building in Cambridge

[Ed note: This article was updated on September 15 to reflect new information given.]

It looks like an award-winning ramen shop in Cambridge is getting a sibling, and it will replace a nearby Japanese eatery.

According to a license commission agenda page within the city's website, Ittyo Restaurant in the Porter Exchange Building in Porter Square is requesting a tentative name change to Yume Wo Katare Udon, with the hearing taking place on Wednesday, August 9. Based on the name, this dining spot will be affiliated with Yume Wo Katare, a restaurant on the other side of Porter Square that first opened in the fall of 2012 and is known mostly for its pork-based ramen. Yume Wo Katare has received rave reviews from both local and national media outlets since opening, including the Improper Bostonian awarding it best ramen for 2015, Zagat mentioning it among its picks for best Japanese places in Boston, and Thrillist including its ramen in its Boston food bucket list.

Ittyo is a dining spot that our sister site (Boston's Hidden Restaurants) has mentioned as an under-the-radar spot to go to in part for its noodle dishes. The review can be found at this link:

http://www.hiddenboston.com/Ittyo.html

The address for Ittyo (and the upcoming dining spot) is 1815 Mass. Ave., Cambridge, MA, 02140.

[September 15 update: A Facebook page from the restaurant indicates that Ittyo has been replaced by what is now called Yume Ga Arukara, and that it is indeed connected to Yume Wo Katare; in addition, a message from The Passionate Foodie confirms that Yume Ga Arukara--which had its grand opening today--will focus on udon.]

Wagamama Is Opening in Boston's Seaport District

It looks like a small global chain of Japanese noodle houses with a handful of locations in the United States will be opening a new one, with this one coming to the Boston waterfront.

The Boston Hospitality and Tourism Industry Blog is reporting (via a licensing board hearing page) that Wagamama is looking to open on Northern Avenue in the city's Seaport District. If approved, this would join outlets in Cambridge's Harvard Square, Faneuil Hall Marketplace in downtown Boston, and the Prudential Center in the Back Bay--with the chain's sole other U.S. location being in the Flatiron section of Manhattan. [July 10 update: The Harvard Square location closed over the past weekend.]

Another location of Wagamama had been at MarketStreet Lynnfield, but that shop closed down last year.

The address for this new noodle house in the Seaport District is: Wagamama, 100 Northern Avenue, Boston, MA, 02210. The website for all U.S. locations can be found at http://www.wagamama.us/

Shojo Team to Open Ruckus Noodles in Boston's Chinatown

A noodle bar is on its way to downtown Boston, and the people behind a highly-rated dining and drinking spot in the same building are behind it.

Boston Magazine is reporting that Brendan and Brian Moy of Shojo in Chinatown will be opening Ruckus Noodles, with executive chef Mark O'Leary apparently heading up the kitchen and the menu. An update from Eater Boston mentions that the menu has not been finalized for the Tyler Street eatery, though it sounds like a variety of Asian soups could be offered.

Shojo first opened in the summer of 2012 and has been a favorite among diners and critics alike; The Improper Bostonian gave it a "best of" award for the Chinatown neighborhood in 2015, while Boston Magazine awarded it best ramen in the Boston area in 2015. [Ed note: The Shojo team now runs The Best Little Restaurant on Hudson Street as well as of June, 2016.]

The Love Noodle to Open on the North Shore

It looks like a new restaurant is coming to the North Shore, and its name is the same as that of a dining spot that had once been in Salem.

According to a post within the restaurant jobs section of the BostonChefs.com site, an "award winning restaurant group on the North Shore" will be opening The Love Noodle at an undisclosed location in the region, with the food at the eatery having Middle Eastern influences. The post also says that the dining spot will be a noodle house that will "bring a cuisine to the North Shore that is not offered in nearby establishments." A restaurant called The Love Noodle had been located at 75 Congress Street in Salem in a space that had also been occupied by the Red Raven and The Exchange; it is not yet known what kind of connection (if any) the new place might have to that spot.

As soon as we find out more about this restaurant, we will post an update here.

Noodles and Company Has Plans to Come to Boston

A Colorado-based restaurant chain that features noodle dishes from around the world is looking to come to the Boston area, though it could be awhile before they do.

The Boulder County Business Report states that Noodles & Company is planning an expansion that would include "dozens of new restaurants in the Northeast" over the next several years, with Boston being eyed along with Hartford, Long Island, and New Jersey. (One location should be opening in East Brunswick, NJ, by early next year.) The chain has approximately 300 locations in nearly half the states in the country, though none in New England as of now.

Noodles & Company, which is headquartered in Broomfield, CO, offers diners an array of noodle-based items influenced by Asian, Mediterranean, and American cuisines, with such dishes as mushroom stroganoff, pad Thai, truffle mac, spaghetti, Japanese pan noodles, curry soup, and penne rosa. Salads and sandwiches can also be found on the menu.
