Cisco Brewers Has Closed Its Pub in Portsmouth, NH; Facility Will Continue to Produce Beer

A local brewery has shut down one of its pubs, though its beermaking operation within that space won't be affected.

According to a Facebook post from the business, Cisco Brewers has closed the bar at its facility in Portsmouth, NH, with the post saying the following:

We have loved being a part of this wonderful community and want to thank our many patrons over the years, and especially our amazing team, for being so welcoming and for the incredible experience in Portsmouth.

The post goes on to say that Cisco will continue to brew its beers at the Corporate Drive space, and no changes are expected at its locations in Nantucket, Boston's Seaport District, and New Bedford. (The Portsmouth location first opened in 2018, replacing Redhook Brewery.)

Burke's Alewerks Opens in West Newton

Last year, it was reported that a South Shore brewery and taproom was planning to expand to a space west of Boston, and now we have learned that it has opened, though it is actually a move rather than an expansion.

According to a poster within the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page, Burke's Alewerks is now open in West Newton, with a Facebook post from the business indicating that it debuted last weekend--and posters have told us that the Hanover location has closed so this is indeed a move contrary to what we had heard in the late winter of 2022. The new spot takes over a location of The Local, which continues to operate locations in Waltham, Wayland, and Wellesley.

Expect to find a mix of European and American-style ales at the new Burke's Alewerks in West Newton along with several wine options, while food offerings for now include pretzels and pizza.

Lamplighter CX Is Opening at Cambridge Crossing in East Cambridge

Back in 2019, it was reported that the people behind a Cambridge brewery were looking to open a brewery, taproom, and distillery in another part of the city. Now we have learned that while they are still looking to open a second location, the plans have changed just a bit.

According to an article from Eater Boston and a post from Cambridge Day, Lamplighter Brewing on Broadway is going to be joined by Lamplighter CX (rather than Luminati Spirits, which was going to be its original name), which will reside in Cambridge Crossing in East Cambridge and will include a taproom and production space. Both articles say that plans for the distillery have been scrapped--at least for now--while the original location (which is roughly between Central Square, Inman Square, and Kendall Square) will remain in operation and currently includes outdoor dining/drinking and a cafe and retail area.

Sam Adams to Open Taproom by Boston's Faneuil Hall

It looks like a big name in the beer industry is going to be bringing a taproom to the heart of Boston.

Eater Boston confirms what a source told us earlier this week, that the Boston Beer Company (which is known for its Sam Adams beers) is planning to open a taproom at 60 State Street by Faneuil Hall, with our source saying that it would be opening in the former Hillstone/Houlihan's space. The post indicates that plans are in their early stages, as negotiations still need to be finalized and the permitting process then proceeding along with construction; if all goes well, the taproom could be opening sometime during the second half of 2019.

Currently, the Boston Beer Company has a brewery and taproom on 30 Germania Street in Jamaica Plain.
