Skara Grill in West Roxbury Has Closed

A Greek restaurant in the West Roxbury neighborhood of Boston that had been open for a little more than a year has closed its doors.

According to Universal Hub, Skara Grill on Centre Street has shut down, with a note out front thanking customers for their support. The restaurant, which had been open for lunch and dinner seven days a week, featured such items as spanakopita, stuffed grape leaves, grilled octopus, roasted eggplant and garlic, baked lamb, pork kababs, and moussaka.

Tip Top Thai in Somerville Has Closed

A Thai restaurant in the Teele Square section of Somerville has shut its doors after being in business for about six years. According to both Yelp and Chowhound, Tip Top Thai on Broadway has closed, with a Chowhound poster mentioning that there is a "For Rent" sign in the storefront.

Tip Top Thai was a small, casual dining spot that did a good amount of takeout service. Its menu focused mainly on Thai fare, though it also offered Japanese cuisine as well as other Asian dishes.

Caffe Nuovo Is Opening in the North End

A new dining spot looks like it is coming to Boston's North End, moving into a space occupied by three different restaurants over the past several years.

According to a post on the EveryBlock Boston site, Caffe Nuovo has just been issued a business license to open on Salem Street. The spot that the new restaurant is looking to move into is the same place where Paesan's was until closing in the summer of 2008, and before that, La Brace, which closed in early 2008, and D'Amore's, which closed about four years ago.

Little is known about Caffe Nuovo at the present time; as we get more information on the place, we will post an update here. [July 28 update: According to Universal Hub, plans are moving ahead for Caffe Nuovo, as the restaurant has received a food-serving license. Approval for a beer and wine license is next. If all goes as planned, Caffe Nuovo will be serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner once it opens (possibly later this summer).]

[October 3 update: According to a poster on Chowhound as well as the Thrillist site, Caffe Nuovo is now open.]

Rod Dee in the Coolidge Corner Section of Brookline to Close

A highly-regarded Thai restaurant in the Coolidge Corner neighborhood of Brookline is getting ready to shut its doors.

According to BostonTweet, Rod Dee, which is located near the corner of Beacon Street and Summit Avenue just west of the heart of the square, will be closing as of July 13. (A picture from BostonTweet of the notice from Rod Dee can be found here: http://twitpic.com/227cab) A second location of the dining spot, which is a short distance west on Beacon Street in Washington Square, will remain open, according to the sign posted at the Coolidge corner location.

Rod Dee, which has been in business for about 15 years in Coolidge Corner, has been known as a place to get authentic Thai cuisine at reasonable prices. It is a tiny spot that concentrates mainly on takeout orders.

The address for the soon-to-close Rod Dee in Coolidge corner is 1430 Beacon Street, while the address for the Washington Square location is 1671 Beacon Street.

Andros Diner in Belmont Seized by State, Reopens

A Greek diner in Belmont that has been in existence for more than three decades was seized by the state last week and briefly closed, but it quickly resolved the issue and has reopened for business.

According to the Belmont Citizen-Herald and Wicked Local, Andros Diner on Trapelo Road was forced to close its doors last week because of back taxes due, but a couple of days later it opened back up again after getting a payment plan in place with the state. A drive over to Andros today indicated that the diner is indeed open, and a call placed to the business this evening confirmed that they are back in business.

Andros Diner is a Greek-style family restaurant that features such dishes as Greek salads, omelets, spinach pie, moussaka, and lamb. The diner, which is located at 628 Trapelo Road between Waverly Square and the Waltham border, has been featured on our sister site (Boston's Hidden Restaurants). The review can be found here:

The Meat House Is Opening in Brookline

A New England-based chain of butcher shops continues to expand in the Boston area, with a new location coming to the Coolidge Corner section of Brookline.

According to The Brookline TAB and Wicked Local, The Meat House will be opening on Beacon Street (about a block east of the Harvard Street intersection) and it will offering wine and beer as well as meat, cheese, wine, marinades, produce, baked goods, and prepared meals. This will be the second Meat House to come to the Boston area this year, as another one recently opened on Mass. Ave. in Arlington Heights. Other locations near Boston include shops in Beverly, Chelmsford, Franklin, North Andover, and Walpole.

[August 9 update: According to posters on the Chowhound site, The Meat House in Brookline is now open.]
