The Hyde Restaurant in Hyde Park Has Closed

An eclectic New American restaurant in Hyde Park has closed its doors after being in business for approximately four years.

According to its Facebook page, The Hyde on Fairmount Avenue has shuttered, with a May 23 post stating that "It is with sadness I must announce that after 51 months of business the Hyde is closing its doors for good. Thanks to all of you that helped us make it as far as we did, it was a pleasure taking care of you." It appears that, based on comments within the post, the dining spot may have officially closed on May 24 or May 25.

The Hyde focused on modern American cuisine using local ingredients, with items such as crab cakes, tofu burgers, pork chops, butternut squash ravioli, roasted ahi tuna, and filet mignon on the menu.

Whole Foods to Open in Lynnfield (and It Will Have a Large Rooftop Farm)

An upcoming location of a natural foods supermarket will be taking the term "locally-grown" to a whole new level.

The Boston Globe is reporting that the upcoming Whole Foods in Lynnfield will have a rooftop farm that will produce at least 10,000 pounds of produce annually. The article says that the 17,000-square-foot garden will be used to grow such items as basil, chard, carrots, kale, tomatoes, and more, with 300 tons of soils in its planter. The fruits, vegetables, and herbs should be ready by this fall (when the market opens at the new MarketStreet Lynnfield complex) and will be used in prepared food items as well as being sold in its produce section.

MarketPlace Lynnfield is being built at the site of the former Colonial Country Club property near the intersection of Routes 128/95 and Walnut Street.

Amsterdam Cafe in Boston's South End Has Closed

After hearing weeks of rumors about its possible demise, we have now been able to confirm that a South End cafe has shut its doors.

According to a Twitter post from @Pilotblock, the Amsterdam Cafe on Columbus Avenue is indeed shuttered, with a "For Lease" sign apparently displayed out front. In April, several sources had mentioned that the dining spot was no longer in operation, with Eater Boston writing about it appearing to have shut down for good.

The Amsterdam Cafe offered breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily, with baked goods, pastries, sandwiches, frozen yogurt, and coffee included on the menu.

The South Boston location of Amsterdam Cafe--which, by the way, is not related to the South End shop--is open for business.

Taste of Quincy Coming to Best Western Adams Inn, June 18, 2013

A food-based event is returning to Quincy this month, and once again, a number of local restaurants will be participating.

On Tuesday, June 18, the 2nd Annual Taste of Quincy will be held at the Best Western Adams Inn on Hancock Street, with the event going from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Included will be samplings from more than 25 dining spots and food purveyors, including Abby Park, Adams Pub, Bubble Tea Stop, The Four's, Fuji 1546, Ginger Betty's, Montilio's, Punjab Cafe, Unchained Pizza, and many others.

Griddler's to Open New Location in Downtown Boston

It looks like a local restaurant group is opening a new dining spot in Boston, making this the second location of its quick-casual spot in Beacon Hill.

According to a job post on the Craigslist site, Boston Nightlife Ventures is planning to open a "second location to [their] fast casual division" and is currently looking to hire employees for the eatery. One place that BNV operates is Griddler's Burgers and Dogs which is a fast-casual restaurant, so it appears that a second location of Griddler's is on the way.

As soon as we have more information, we will post an update here.

[June 4 update: Eater Boston has confirmed that a second Griddler's is indeed coming to Boston, with a possible opening date being July 15 (though the exact address is still not known). In addition, EB says that two additional Griddler's are apparently on the way as well at some point.]

[December 4 update: An email sent this morning indicates that the new Griddler's will open at 134 Boylston Street, which is between Charles Street and Tremont Street across from Boston Common. The note mentions that the new location will have additions to its menu as well as a new design for the interior of the place, though the general concept will remain the same as that of the original. Expect a January opening for the new Griddler's. (Note: It has been confirmed that Griddler's will be taking over the space where a location of Four Burgers is.)]

[March 3, 2015 update: UrbanDaddy mentions that Griddler's is planning to open its new location on Boylston Street sometime next week.]

Griddler's first opened on Cambridge Street in December of 2011, taking over the space where The Federal (another BNV spot) had been. Tasty Burger Plans to Open in Cambridge's Central Square

The folks behind a trio of burger spots in the Boston area are looking to open a fourth, and this one would be its second Cambridge location.

The Boston Magazine Chowder blog is reporting that Tasty Burger is planning on opening somewhere in the Central Square section of the city, though the exact location has apparently not yet been made public. The article says that the license and permit process still needs to be done for the upcoming eatery, but that if all goes well, it could be opening sometime this fall.

The original Tasty Burger, which first opened in September of 2010, is located on Boylston Street near Fenway Park in Boston, with other locations being on JFK Street in Cambridge's Harvard Square and a takeout spot at the corner of L Street and East 4th Street in South Boston.
