Tasty Burger Doesn't Get Alcohol License, Will Not Be Coming to Cambridge's Central Square

A local group of burger places that had planned to open a new location in Cambridge's Central Square will not be coming after all, and alcohol appears to be the reason.

Cambridge Day is reporting that the city's License Commission opposed Tasty Burger's plan for "late-night beer and wine" due to the fact that the place would be in a residential area, and because the folks behind the proposed spot at 74 Prospect Street didn't revise their plans for the space, the commission decided to reject the plan for the restaurant to open there. Tasty Burger had been hoping to be open until 1:00 AM Sunday through Wednesday and 2:00 AM on Fridays and Saturdays.

Lyndell's Bakery had been in the Prospect Street space until closing about a month ago.

News Elsewhere: Legal Sea Foods to Close Two Locations Outside of New England

A popular Boston-based chain of seafood restaurants is planning to close a couple of its locations outside of the area.

An article in Westfair Publications mentions that the Legal Seafoods branch in White Plains, NY, is going to be shuttering on December 22, while another article in the Sun Sentinel states that the outlet in Boca Raton, FL, will be closing its doors on October 14. It appears that other locations of the seafood chain will remain open outside of New England, including ones in Georgia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Virginia and Washington, DC, and all locations in Massachusetts will apparently remain open as well.

Rhythm 'N Wraps Food Truck Is Up and Running

A new food truck has hit the streets of Boston, and this one focuses on vegetarian and vegan items.

Eater Boston is reporting that Rhythm 'N Wraps is now open for business, with the truck offering wraps and beverages. The menu includes such items as a vegan sausage wrap (with smoky bbq mayo, caramelized onions, cheddar and mozzarella cheese, and a green apple, sage, and tomato salad) and a tempeh bacon wrap (with a special sauce, romaine lettuce, and tomato and pickle relish).

The Rhythm 'N Wraps can be found by Northeastern, the Boston Medical Center, the Financial District, and Dudley Square in Roxbury, with lunch being served Monday through Thursday.

Changes Coming to the Milk Street Cafe in Boston's Financial District

A decades-old kosher restaurant and caterer in the heart of downtown Boston is getting ready to make what appear to be major changes.

According to a post within the restaurant jobs section of the BostonChefs.com site, the Milk Street Cafe in the city's Financial District is going to be "reinventing itself," with the post going on to say that they "are embarking on a new concept that will include total renovation of the restaurant and exciting menu changes." Other than their indicating that the catering business will continue, it is not yet known what changes might be in store for the spot, so keep checking back for updates.

[May 22, 2014 update: The Jewish Advocate is reporting that the Milk Street Cafe will be undergoing their "massive revamping" during the summer, with renovations being done to the restaurant along with a larger menu that will have meat and sushi offerings. (The post also mentions that the eatery is apparently the only kosher spot in the city.)]

[September 25, 2014 update: Eater Boston states that the Milk Street Cafe plans to reopen on Monday (September 29), with sushi and panini stations, a bakery, and an espresso bar included within the updated space.]

The Milk Street Cafe, which first opened back in 1981 is an upscale casual restaurant that is known in part for its corporate catering. Its cafe menu includes bagels, croissants, soups, salads, sandwiches, pizza, Middle Eastern items, and quiche.

The Middle East in Cambridge May Have to "Grow or Leave"

It looks like a restaurant and nightclub complex in the Central Square section of Cambridge may have to expand upward if it wants to keep its home.

Cambridge Day is reporting that Joseph and Nabil Sater, who are the owners of The Middle East and ZuZu restaurant on Mass. Ave., are faced with the possibility of the building being sold (the landlord recently passed away), which could result in their buying the one-story building and possibly adding several floors of residential space above the complex. The article mentions that the Saters, who met with neighbors and politicians about their plans last night, are hoping floors can be added to the foundation rather than the building being torn down and rebuilt, because the latter option could be "fatal" to their business.

More information on the plans for The Middle East will likely come out in a week or so, as another community meeting is being planned.

Nebo in Boston Starts Serving Pizza (Again)

After months of anticipation, an upscale Italian restaurant that recently moved from Boston's North End to Atlantic Wharf is now serving pizza once again.

An email sent today indicates that Nebo on Atlantic Avenue will offer pizza starting tonight, with the selection including old favorites such as the Gino (cherry peppers, spicy sausage) along with new ones such as the Lardo (lardo, wild mushrooms, sage, caramelized onions). At this point in time, a total of eight pizza options will be available at the dining spot.

Nebo closed its North End location this past March, reopening in its new home in June. This will be the first time that the restaurant serves pizza in its new spot, as the original pizza ovens brought into the place were faulty.
