Haley House Bakery Cafe in Roxbury to Close; Hopes to Reopen Later This Year

by Marc Hurwitz

A non-profit restaurant that first opened nearly 15 years ago is shutting down, though the hope is for it to eventually return.

According to a post from the Boston Hospitality and Tourism Industry Blog, Haley House Bakery Cafe in Roxbury''s Dudley Square is closing, with a Facebook post from the place saying that "After careful consideration, Haley House has decided to engage in a re-visioning process to review and renew our business concept. Following Community Tables on Sat. Jan 12th, we will temporarily suspend restaurant operations going forward, with the goal of reopening later in the year." The note goes on to say that the catering and wholesale operations will continue along with its Take Back the Kitchen cooking and nutrition program, and their hosting of the 11th Annual Souper Bowl will still take place on February 10.

Haley House Bakery Cafe first opened in 2005, offering healthy foods in a community-oriented space while offering opportunities to those with limited employment options.

The address for Haley House Bakery Cafe is 12 Dade Street, Roxbury, MA, 02119. Its website is at http://haleyhouse.org/haley-house-bakery-cafe/
